The Guardians have acquired catcher/infielder David Fry from the Brewers as the player to be named later to complete the November trade that sent right-hander J.C. Mejia to the Brewers. The Brewers announced the move on Twitter.
Fry was a seventh-round selection of the Brewers in the 2018 draft and immediately saw some action that year in rookie ball and A-ball. In 2019, his first full season in the professional ranks, he played 134 games in A-ball, hitting 17 home runs and stealing seven bases, finishing with a line of .258/.329/.444, wRC+ of 123. After the pandemic wiped out the minors in 2020, Fry spent last year primarily in Double-A, playing 75 games there, along with 19 in Triple-A. His line on the year was .255/.348/.449, wRC+ of 122.
Defensively, Fry is quite versatile, often found behind the plate but also seeing significant time at the infield corners, and even rare appearances at second base, shortstop and in the outfield.
Back in December, FanGraphs ranked the 26-year-old as the 33rd-best prospect in the Milwaukee system, noting that his power and positional versatility gave him the chance to be an interesting bench piece.
Cue the inane comments.
Thanks for starting the inanity.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Let’s Fry the Guardians because they sure aren’t cookin’
I’m sorry folks, I lived in Cleveland for many years, & the “Guardians” ain’t gonna fly. It makes me want to brush my teeth & take a shower
They just need more seasoning.
……along with some gasoline and matches.
Making you more hygienic is… a bad thing?
Morons. And I’m not referring to the Cleveland team.
Back to your chores son.
Cleveland should’ve done a whole makeover re their name. They could’ve been known as the CLEVELA NDIANS. At least the fans can still chant “LET’S GO ‘DIANS”
Instead of Chief Wahoo, it’s now Chaperone Wah-Wah
Here’s to another lousy millennium! —Fry
power hitting high minors C with positional flexibility. not a bad get.
David Fry lowkey a slugger
Fry is a bit old for a prospect, but those numbers he put up in the minors look somewhat decent. To give that up for a guy who just gave up 48 runs in 52 innings and who will cost a 40 man spot doesn’t really make sense. Maybe they see something in Mejia but there are dozens of similar pitchers they probably could’ve just got as minor league free agents for nothing.
The Indians last “PTBNL’ (Michael Brantley) from the Brewers worked out ok.. we’ll just have to wait and see…
As a Brewer fan, I hate this.
I can’t imagine liking much being a Brewer fan
So they’ve switched from collecting weak-hitting middle infielders to collecting minor league catchers?
They needed this. Most of their AA/AAA inventory from the last few years is gone. Right now he probably slots in as the primary backup at AA, with either Naylor or Lavastida being the starter. Naylor/Lava are good prospects but they were so lacking in depth last year that at one point they had to roster Gianpaul Gonzalez, who had less than 600 ABs since being drafted in 2014.
Their depth right now is something like:
Lavastida and Sandy Leon at AAA, Mike Rivera as the third guy
Naylor and Fry at AA, with… Eric Rodriguez (201 ABs, drafted in 2018) as the third guy?
Maybe find a new team? All ya do is whine about the cleveland baseball team. We get it.
“Who the heck are the… ohh.”
– Me every single time I read something about this team
Ƭ̵̬̊ Player Formly Known As MousecopƬ̵̬̊
They seemed to have misplaced Indians
So did Columbus.
*spits out water*
Should have gone with the Cleveland Jardiance (R) (empagliflozin).
Think of those sponsor dollars!
Does a heck of a Richard Nixon
So the best pic they have of this guy is of him getting jammed high and tight?
