Dodgers Designate Carson Fulmer For Assignment

By Anthony Franco | May 2, 2022 at 1:36pm CDT

The Dodgers have designated reliever Carson Fulmer for assignment, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times was among those to relay. Utilityman Zach McKinstry was also optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to comply with the reduction in active roster sizes from 28 to 26.

Fulmer’s stay in the majors lasted just two days, as Los Angeles selected him when Mitch White hit the COVID-19 injured list on Saturday. He didn’t wind up making an appearance, and his time in the organization could now be coming to its end. While L.A. didn’t need to clear 40-man roster space, Fulmer was out of minor league option years. The only way to take him off the big league club was to remove him from the 40-man entirely.

Los Angeles acquired Fulmer in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft, which took place during the lockout. The Dodgers selected him out of the Reds organization after Cincinnati had passed him through outright waivers last May. He opened the 2022 campaign with Oklahoma City and tossed 11 2/3 innings over eight appearances. The righty allowed four runs (three earned) and struck out 12 batters but issued eight walks.

The eighth overall pick in the 2015 draft by the White Sox, Fulmer appeared in the majors every year from 2016-21. He has 130 2/3 MLB innings under his belt, although he’s managed just a 6.41 ERA with a subpar 19.2% strikeout rate and a lofty 13.4% walk percentage. The Dodgers will presumably place him on waivers in the coming days; Fulmer would have the right to refuse a minor league assignment if he clears after having been outrighted in the past.

Some fellas are not ready for the bigs after 1 short minor league season no matter how high of a draft pick they are. Was on some pretty bad whitesox teams looking to catch on before he was ready.
Those walk numbers at Vanderbilt were a good sign of what might become.

Example of why both the 26 man MLB Roster and the Team 40 man roster are antiquated and obsolete for today’s game.

Huh? And replace them with what? No roster limits?

I was wondering that, too.. He’s posted this same statement on at least three different threads related to DFA news.

Just posting the facts so perhaps “the fans” wil;l put pressure to bearon MLB & MLBPA for the needed and obvious update to these arbitrary limits.

        You tell me.
Or better yet, tell MLB & the MLBPA that these limits need updating and propose your own increased limits.

The roster limits of 26 and 40, respectfully are too low for today’s game and are in need of being increased.

Well, I completely disagree, but im not seeing what your point is. Why are rosters too small? To me, I wouldn’t add any slots. Not seeing your logic here.

The various roster limits are too low which increases the bouncing back and forth of players from majors and minors and the frequent DFA of players off of the 40 man roster due to the evolution of the game due to: injury frequency, fewer innings pitched by starters, more relievers being utilized, increased use of pinch hitters, increased use of late inning defensive replacements, etc………

Increased use of pinch hitters? Increased use of defensive replacements? Is this a thing? Have you studied this? These things are leading to more injuries? I’m sorry but you’re talking nonsense. We need to control roster usage not let it get out of further control. None of what you are saying has any basis in anything other than to change the game.

Reminds me of “Carson City” upstate where they used to take us kids to see recreations of old western gunfights. Stuntmen falling off balconies and such.

@Cosmo2 Do you mean in New York or Nevada? There was a tamer version outside of the Nevada capital (Carson City) that had some ties was to Bonanza.

This was NY, was like a recreation of Carson City, but it was for kids. Like a little tiny piece of two streets in old-time Nevada.

Oh wow the lockout was six months ago!! Seems like a really long time… no it’s really I escape to here from my hectic life and the mute button seems to not work on mobile so every day I see you posting the same comment daily tearing down the MLB and many fans. I agreed with you early on about adding teams to the MLB but you have gone insane demanding for total relocation and often selling of teams on every article.
And no I didn’t block your ability to reply to me intentionally, again I’m on mobile so idk how I would do that

The Braves won the World Series six months ago. Also, there is no “reply” option under your comments. It only has a “flag” option and a “mute” option. I can only respond by clicking “reply” on my own comment instead of yours.

Fulmer is exactly the type of guy the Buc should go after. They have nothing to lose, maybe he finds in self in a no pressure situation and they trade him for something

He has already played for Pittsburgh. I would not mind if the Orioles resigned Fulmer to a minors contract. The few games he played in Baltimore he looked a lot better than Paul Fry.

Fulmer is an example of a guy who’s only still around because of his former prospect status. He has 130 innings under his belt and has only been able to muster a 6.41 ERA and 5.93 FIP. I don’t see him contributing anything of value, to be honest.

I’m sure he’ll decline the assignment and hook on with someone else. Seems every team needs a blow out reliever to eat innings when your starter gets lit up early.

A pitcher with lots of raw talent.
Some team will pick him up and “fix him” into an effective MLB player.

I am guessing the Oakland A’s? Pittsburgh Pirates?

San Diego Padres have had luck fixing guys in their bullpen.
Carson Fulmer contribute in as a 6th or 7th guy in some team’s bullpen.
