Fernando Tatis Jr.’s 2022 season is over. In a stunning development, Major League Baseball announced Friday afternoon that the Padres star has tested positive for Clostebol, a banned performance-enhancing substance. He’s been suspended for 80 games without pay, effective immediately. Tatis, who confirmed he’s already dropped an appeal he’d initially filed, goes on the restricted list.
Tatis released a statement via the MLB Players Association (Twitter link):
“I have been informed by Major League Baseball that a test sample I submitted returned a positive result for Clostebol, a banned substance. It turns out that I inadvertently took a medication to treat ringworm that contained Clostebol. I should have used the resources available to me in order to ensure that no banned substances were in what I took. I failed to do so.
I want to apologize to (owner Peter Seidler), (president of baseball operations A.J. Preller), the entire Padres organization, my teammates, Major League Baseball, and fans everywhere for my mistake. I have no excuse for my error, and I would never do anything to cheat or disrespect this game I love. … I am completely devastated. There is nowhere else in the world I would rather be than on the field competing with my teammates. … I look forward to rejoining my teammates on the field in 2023.”
The Padres released a briefer statement of their own on the news:
“We were surprised and extremely disappointed to learn today that Fernando Tatis Jr. tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and subsequently received an 80-game suspension without pay. We fully support the Program and are hopeful that Fernando will learn from this experience.”
Preller confirmed to reporters (including Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune and Dennis Lin of the Athletic) that the organization learned about the suspension this afternoon, around two hours before it was made public. The Padres baseball ops leader was forthright about his frustration, suggesting that “over the course of the last six or seven months, I think (trust has) been something that we haven’t really been able to have.” That’s presumably in reference to the motorcycle accident that fractured Tatis’ wrist. Preller continued, “I think we’re hoping that from the offseason to now, that there would be some maturity. And obviously with the news today, it’s more of a pattern and something we’ve got to dig a little bit more into. I’m sure he’s very disappointed, but at the end of the day, it’s one thing to say it. You have to start by showing it with your actions.”
Tatis will go the entire 2022 season without appearing in a major league game. (Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets that he’ll also be barred from representing the Dominican Republic in next spring’s World Baseball Classic). The star shortstop sustained a fracture in his left wrist in an offseason motorcycle accident, an injury that was revealed when he reported to the team in Spring Training. He underwent surgery and was out of action for months. There was finally light at the end of the tunnel, with Tatis sent to Double-A on a rehab assignment last week. He’d played in four minor league games and was set to rejoin the big league club within a couple weeks. That’ll no longer be the case.
The Padres have 48 more games on the regular season schedule. That’ll leave him in position to miss as many as the first 32 games of the 2023 season as well, although Tatis’ suspension would be reduced for any playoff games he misses (if the Padres reach the postseason this year).
It’s a crushing blow to a San Diego team that enters play Friday night in possession of the National League’s final Wild Card spot. They’re just a game clear of the Brewers, setting the stage for a tightly contested pennant race. If they’re to get to the postseason, the Friars will have to do it without the elite midseason reinforcement on whom they’d been counting.
That’s not to say the Padres are doomed. They’ve been without the two-time Silver Slugger winner all season, and they’re nevertheless 12 games above .500 with a +40 run differential. The deadline blockbuster to add Juan Soto and Josh Bell looms larger than ever now. San Diego still has a fearsome middle of the order anchored by Soto, Bell and Manny Machado, while Jake Cronenworth and Jurickson Profar have each hit at above-average levels.
There’s no way to replace a player who owns a .292/.369/.596 slash line through his first three big league seasons, but the Padres are in as good a position as a team can reasonably be to weather Tatis’ absence. They’ve gotten strong play from Ha-Seong Kim at shortstop in his second MLB season. The former KBO star is hitting .247/.324/.371 through 392 plate appearances, exactly league average offense by measure of wRC+. Public metrics have pegged Kim as one of the sport’s top defensive shortstops, making him a more than adequate fill-in for the remainder of the season.
Perhaps the greater roster ramification is that San Diego now has little recourse to replace scuffling center fielder Trent Grisham. Tatis had been slated to play both shortstop and center field on his rehab assignment, and he may well have gotten more time in the outfield down the stretch. While Kim has held down shortstop effectively all year, Grisham owns a .195/.292/.357 line over 411 trips to the plate. He has continued on as the primary center fielder, although Wil Myers has gotten the nod the past three times the Friars have faced a left-handed opposing starter. Skipper Bob Melvin figures to stick with at least a soft platoon arrangement for the stretch run.
While the team will feel the strongest repercussions down the stretch this year, Tatis’ lack of availability in 2022 has to be alarming to the organization over the long term. He’s under contract for another 12 seasons beyond this one under the extension he signed in February 2021. That $340MM deal is the fourth-largest in MLB history, and there’s arguably no one more important to the franchise’s long-term future.
That deal is backloaded. Tatis’ forfeited salary during the suspension, while substantial, isn’t nearly as significant as it would have been had he tested positive a couple years from now. He’ll lose the remainder of this year’s $5MM salary (approximately $1.5MM) as well as around a month’s worth of next year’s $7MM salary. The extent of his salary forfeiture is dependent on how many games he loses next season, which is subject to how far into the playoffs the Friars get this year. He’s likely to miss around 20% of the schedule, which would translate to around $1.3MM in lost salary next year.
Jeff Passan of ESPN first reported that Tatis had failed a PED test and was facing a suspension.

WOW!!
Too bad for PEDres!!!
Boy is this guy ever a screw up or what?
refugee – Yes, not even Chris Sale is this bad a screw up.
He sure is
Yep!
Yep! Hi
Definitely gives a new meaning to SLAM Diego!
more like SPED Diego!
I just hope and pray his ringworm is all gone!
told him no fall off scooter no mo, so what do he do? He do moPED
Fernando Tatis Juicer.
that drug is not used for ring worm, Tatis is not telling the truth.
@larry48- I’m so shocked that he’s lying. Sounds like the lst time.
In his defense, I have inside information that he meant that he took it for ringwald, as in Molly Ringwald. It’s now too confusing to correct this misspelling, or to explain the relationship with Molly, so best to just go with ringworm story for now
Ringwald! now it all makes sense! women!!
This is why you don’t try and hot shot your way to the World Series by making fan pleasing free agent or splashy trades. It never works.
What does trading for Soto have to do with Tatis juicing? Absolutely nothing.
Actually, it might of put more pressure on Tatis to get back to full health sooner rather than later, making him decide on some bad decisions to meet the expectations of the team. Just a thought.
I bet this is closer to the truth of it. Less about getting an edge on other players, and more about trying to heal faster. Can’t condone it, but I understand this motivation.
@ToTwoTooMany
Are you just going to ignore that Tatis Sr. was also tied to PED use before he snitched on other users in order to keep his name off of the Mitchell Report?
That would have to be part of the truth, wouldn’t it?
That’s assuming he never did it before. I have a hard time blubbering that.
@Totwo. Except he didn’t didn’t say he took it to heal, he took it (inadvertently) for ringworm. Now he might have taken it to heal and used this story as a cover but if that’s true he is both a cheat and a liar
For sure this is why Tatis was taking stuff- ALL athletes (OK, 90%) take gear to recover from injuries. Highly doubt he typically needs or uses it.
ringworm? shoulda took harts one a days like I gave my dog. cleared it right up!
He tested clean in March of this year. I have nothing to go on other than that.
Sins of the father, huh? Yikes.
Dude has got $340m coming his way already… not sure he feels pressure to do anything. Doesn’t seem like it.
Miles – I would buy that if he was caught using HGH, but that’s not the case.
That’s the most ignorant thing I’ve ever read. Reread what you wrote, it equals to Tatis Jr making his OWN decisions to use. You can’t make someone take peds unless they WANT to. It’s his own fault no one else’s and certainly no one else’s actions.
Larry-Did your dog test clean though?
No but signing this POS to a 14 year deal is pretty stupid
Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
lol
Extremely unlikely given the timing. This is not a thing
You should know that the Anabolic Steroid he took is known to prevent the healing of bones, look it up! So this was a pretty piss poor attempt to get on the field “faster” because it did in fact do the exact opposite. My guess is this guy has been using for quite some time. His meteoric rise has JUICER written all over it!
Poor excuse. That’s not what u take for ringworm! You take the cream and rub it in.
Certainly could be that he was just trying to heal faster. Although what if he has been using PEDs for years, and just now got caught? It will be interesting to see if his offensive production falls off next season.
Bad decisions are bad decisions. Choose not to make one.
Maybe that’s how the banned substance got into his body…..it’s hereditary.
Go look up the substance. It’s testosterone building.
Maybe he’s one of these athletes ‘doing their own vaccine research’ and mistook it for ivermectin? I’m just asking a question.
@ToTwoTooMany You mean the motivation you just invented?
He was tested in March, way before any trade. But you’re right about the bad decisions…
Well that’s a dumb question bart go ask your dad Homer
You know what doesn’t work? Absolutes.
That makes no sense. Braves 2021.
At least marcel Ozuna gets to play after choking out his wife in front of the police
Lovely visual. Thanks for that, Tesba.
Clearly you don’t watch the bodycam
Got sarcasm?
Speaking of…. He was charged with DUI this morning
You need to supply a creditable link to a source.
Mlbtraderumors.com/doyourownresearch
And that’s why you don’t ask Robinson Cano for advice.
2022 World Series Champions Padres
I was a sports book in Vegas today and someone bet $1,000 on padres to win World Series. Wonder if he can get a refund…
No chance of a refund but he or she should go back tomorrow and put another grand on the Padres to win it all. Their odds just dropped significantly which increases the payout exponentially.
So much for getting Juan Soto!!!
Actually this makes the Soto/Bell pickups even more important, you have to wonder if the Padres brass knew about this at the deadline already and that is why they gave up what they did for those two.
There was an appeal before it goes public. They probably knew.
@Beersy – They said they just learned about it today, so I don’t think they knew about this before and they probably wouldn’t have sent him on a rehab assignment had they known he was getting suspended.
They still have Tatis for 13 more years
It reminds me of what the A’s did after Ramon Laureano was suspended. I am sure the A’s knew he was going to get suspended. Then they traded for Starling Marte.
That is too bad
Drury says 13 RBIs since the deadline (9 games) #1 in MLB and it ain’t close… fk it all.. Ill carry the WS trophy!
What?? you care to explain?
Let’s Go Friars!
Cano must have forgotten to clean out his locker before he left SD.
Tatis Jr might as well go get the shoulder fixed now.
If it is allowed with the CBA, I would demand of him to get it done as soon as possible.
Yeah WOW 400mill… Canseco said in his “novel” “Juice” everybody was and will be doing PEDs. You be the judge…
…Aaron Judge?
Oh thanks! I guess everyone has to take a fall now, because of Precious Padre Tatis?
Wow is right!
He shouldn’t get time served for playoff games as he’s not eligible to play in them having been suspended
That logic equates to the whole suspension not counting as “time served”.
Jimmy, if his suspension was over before the playoffs started he would not be allowed to play due to his suspension. So if he’s not eligible to play in those games I don’t see why he should get time off for them
With his suspension crossing seasons, does it make him ineligible for next year’s post-season?
He shouldn’t get a ring if Pads win the World Series that is for sure..Now I want the Padres to win it all..have the ring ceremony opening day and rings for Voit/Ruiz/CJ Abrams/etc. BUT no ring for Tatis cause unlike these dudes (traded) Tatis had 0 contributions on our 2022 Padres
Love it!
PEDres won’t be in the playoffs, so that’s a moot point.
How many hours did it take you come up with that?
Nonsensical. Every game the Padre would be scheduled in the playoffs he would eligible to play in if he wasn’t suspended. How could that not count?
What complicates clostebol cases is that it’s possible to test positive from contaminated meat (it’s used in some countries to fatten cattle) or over-the-counter antibiotic creams. The FDA does not allow U.S. products to include clostebol acetate, but it is listed as an active ingredient in creams sold in Europe and Central and South America.
We don’t know if he knew it was in it or tried to cover it up by saying he had ringworm. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t know that it was in the cream he was using to treat ringworm
I don’t give him the benefit of the doubt. With the money these guys make and knowing the consequences, they CHOOSE to cheat. They always say the same manure about not knowing. BS.
So instead of saying he was trying to cheat, your saying he was stupid, ignorant, and careless about his career. Yeah, I can see that.
Agent probably quickly googled what medications clostebal can be found and decided he had a severe case of ring worm. Honestly the story is pretty ridiculous.
I’m sure he could have went to the team doctor and got a prescription for ringworm. Ringworm is common with HS and College wrestlers.
The only people I’ve ever heard getting ringworm have been wrestlers.
Ha ha ha
Come on. If he didn’t use the steroid he would appeal. He accepted the suspension.
That’s why the ChiSox traded him years ago. PED user!
White Sox moved him because he wasn’t much of a prospect. They gave SD a list of inconsequential suspects in a salary dump trade.
That’s overstating things quite a bit – the White Sox were attempting to compete and traded for Shields to give them innings and hoping for a resurgence. They got him *relatively* cheaply due to his underperformance the year before, but at the time Sox fans felt somewhat uncomfortable with the trade – it was good to see them going for it (we thought!) but seeing Tatis on the list going back was concerning. He wasn’t a big prospect, but he wasn’t a nobody, either.
To be fair, I was roughly equally concerned to be losing either player – Erik Johnson also had some interesting potential…
All that talent thrown away! Was accident prone anyway! Embarrassment to the game! Padres should cut him lose!
Beat you to it, MLBTR. Nice try.
But no one knows who you are or cares
Leave him alone, he’s almost done with my foot rub.
Closetebol foot rub, that is.
Good luck at your next test!
He has fb page what are you talking about.
Wow, what a development.
This guy has some serious issues. He has the maturity of a 13 year old boy at best. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Tatis, Jr. received a loan from that predatory lending firm Big League Advance, where he borrowed up to $500,000 as a minor-leaguer because he wanted to live a flashy lifestyle; he now owes them about $28M of his new contract because of this horrible decision. Couldn’t he have borrowed this money from his dad or perhaps even a legit financial institution? What a terrible life decision made at an early age.
Then he gets on a motorcycle this past offseason (which is prohibited in his contract) and breaks his wrist, but doesn’t tell the team about it until he showed up to spring training. Then he wasn’t in communication with the Padres during his rehab as much as they wanted him to be and now he wraps that saga up with an 80 game PED suspension; all of this by age 23. The Padres have to be really concerned about the future of this guy and the massive investment they have made in him. I wouldn’t be surprised if SD looks hard at his contract to see if they can get out from under it; or possibly restructure it and recoup some money. If they can somehow void his contract, they might consider doing so and then use that money to lock up the much more mature Juan Soto to a record breaking deal. At this point, Preller & Co. has to have 10X the trust in Soto than they do with Tatis, Jr. With that said, if he remains with the team, you have to hope this is the wake up call he needed to start acting like an adult and a professional. He has definitely pushed the limits of trust with team ownership and only he (Tatis) can change that. Who knows, but maybe this will end up being a good thing for him in the long term if it makes him start taking responsibility for his stupid decisions to date and finally mature into an adult. It’s such a shame because he has the talent to be one of the best players of all time; he’s just missing the maturity and discipline to go along with that.
Great points in general, but Soto definitely isn’t worth a record breaking deal and the trade was stupid.
2022 World Series Champion Padres
As a Nationals fan, Soto delivered a WS to DC with his play in 2019… and even this season, while surrounded by a whole lot of players that would maybe only start for the Pirates, he still produced at a decent clip. At one point this season he had nine home runs and 15 rbi’s. Bell was his only real help… but Bell batted after Soto.
If I were the Padres, I would unload Tatis’ contract through the legal system and find a way to lock up Trea Turner (another excellent SS that plays everyday, gives you excellent AB’s and will be a menace on the bases for another seven to eight years). Even Soto said he would want to play with Turner again due to the way he approaches the game. Soto is a coach’s dream… even with the Soto shake in the batter’s box that has to be annoying to an old school manager. His discipline at the plate is as good as it gets – even if he’s not pushing a .300 average. Walks lead to runs if you know how to play small ball. His off the field maturity is something worth mentioning as well. Good parenting goes a long way.
Signing a 30 year old Trea Turner is not a good plan. He seems to be the type who could possibly be an exception in terms of aging, but it wouldn’t be smart so sign him with that expectation. And he isn’t great to begin with- he’s a very good player.
There are always unknowns in this big of a trade. Far too early to say it was “stupid”. We have three potential playoff seasons with Soto. With the prospects we gave up it will take years to know the outcome. Is James Wood the next Aaron Judge? Will Gore be a staff’s ace? Doubtfu,l but we will see then.
Maturity level btw Tatis and Soto is a toss up chief.
Perhaps the broken wrist was from the bill collector.
Lol PEDres won’t get away from Tatis. They made him their golden boy and now they gotta stick with it. That organization gets what they deserve.
WOW. Biggest shock since Braun? Manny? Ever?
Ever IMO.
Probably TBH. Can’t remember the last time I lost so much respect for a player after a PED suspension. Tatis always seemed like a genuine guy.
How can anyone be shocked? Did we forget that his father was rumored to be on his way to being mentioned in the Mitchell Report until he was rumored to have snitched on other guys that did appear in the report?
Most players are using something. Only the careless ones get caught.
I don’t judge people on their father’s sins.
@VonPurpleHayes
I agree that you can’t judge a person for his father’s sins, but when he commits the same act, you can’t just ignore it.
Tatis Sr. rumored to have kept his name off the Mitchell Report by snitching on other users.
Tatis Jr. fails a PED test.
Hard for me to ignore. And I’m pretty sure that every player in the Mitchell Report that suspected that Tatis Sr. covered his butt by snitching on them, is laughing their butts off today.
#SuperstarProspect: Not sure about “most”, but I’d say many. A lot of players (and teams) will do just about anything to gain an edge including cheating. It’s always been a part of our national past time.
Heck, I’m willing to bet a pitcher or 2 has already figured out a way to improve there spin rate outside of the rulebook. And, some teams are once again stealing signs … and … via something other than trash can communication technology.
I love this game!
Tatis Jr was a nobody in the White Sox system, suddenly “blossoms” into a superstar, and nobody suspected? Yeah, right!
And how do you know that? Any evidence or just you assuming the worst of others?
He said it was ringworm, geez tough crowd
If taking roids could turn everyone from nobody to superstar, you’d see WAY more people try to get away with it…
He was 17 when he came to the Padres. Of course he was unknown he was in rookie ball.
Stymeedone – So you’re telling me that you’re surprised that a 17 year old in rookie ball wasn’t a superstar and is now a superstar? You kinda silly, ya know?
He didn’t even play in the White Sox system we got him before he even got started .. 6 months or so after he signed his international contract
Yeah well maybe you should start now?
@skeptical
I never said I knew. I alluded that due to his change in performance, there might have been some who were “skeptical” that he did so legitimately.
Dee Gordon was my biggest surprise user.
This is the only answer
He really wanted to hit a double.
Lol. I did a literal spit take. Well done, aragon.
lmao, niiiiiiiice
Oddly enough Clostebol is what Gordon was booked for too
Yeah true. Didn’t see a Gordon, especially Dee, juicing.
Cause Clostebol or whatever, isn’t generally used as a serious PED. It’s not HGH or anything. Doesn’t excuse that’s it’s wrong, but it’s really not the same as “juicing”
Def the biggest shock since Braun. A-Rod might be the biggest shock ever lol.
LOL
I feel bad that my reaction is to laugh.
Yeah especially since he is marketed as the “the face of baseball” and the “young, exciting, ‘let the kids play’ superstar”
Nuts. Terrible for baseball.
Yep, steroids sure are.
And for kids with allergies.
Haha. Well done.
Idiot. Moron. Stupid pathetic jerk.
I think hes a genius lol. He secured the bag 100 games in and said f it
That’ll be his excuse. The Arod one ( the first time he got caught).
I was wrong. That dreaded ringworm.
He doesn’t get paid during the suspension
He just forfeited half a season’s pay so I doubt that’s it.
The smart thing would be to then stop juicing.
Ehh. He made millions and only got suspended 80 games. Probably a genius.
@von, I wonder if Tatis and his handler(s) took a calculated risk. As he’s only making $5MM this year and $7MM NEXT, he’s only going to lose some 2-3MM in this suspension. So, maybe worth the risk if he could have come back quicker and stronger. Still had some 337MM coming his way. Geez
wow…
Guess they had to get Soto. I assume they caught wind of an appeal in action and made the move. This sucks for everyone. Dumb decision…
Do they go all in this season though if they know Tatis woln’t be back?
I would say yes based on the players already on the MLB roster as far as pitching and the fact that Soto wasn’t a half year rental, nor Hader. We will never know, I believe…
Actually, they had no idea till this morning, according to every credible source. But hey, we will go with your random ideas instead
That’s interesting because for a number of past PED suspensions, the news articles made it sound as though both the player and the team were made aware days if not weeks before the suspension was announced. Hence, we never hear about an appeal when a suspension is announced; any appeal took place before the suspension is made public. Did something change in the new CBA whereby only the player (and his agent) are notified of the positive test, not the team? I could see competitive reasons why the rule might be set either way.
They all were only notified this morning
Just thinking out loud, nothing more nothing less. As far as I know nothing is made public until the player says he’s not appealing the suspension or until the appeal is heard. This was the case in the past but as Marc brought up maybe that changed in the new CBA. There is another random idea for you to mull over…
You must be important
If they already knew, no way they send Tatis out on a rehab assignment. Zero chance
Can the suspension start if he’s injured? Maybe he had to be cleared to play first.
@Armaments216
They have to activate him before he starts his suspension, which they can do at any time since he’s already spent the minimum time required on the injured list.
But since he’s on the 60-day, they’ll need to put him on the 40-man first.
Fangraphs shows that the Padres only have 39 on the 40-man roster, assuming that’s correct, it’ll just be a procedural move.
Had there been 40 on the roster already, the Padres would have to DFA a player before they could activate him.
I guess what I’m asking is – does MLB want to make sure the player loses 80 days of actual playing time? As opposed to using some of his suspension to recover from an injury.
Understood about the roster implications and that the player loses the 80 games of salary regardless.
Why not? Players play all the time when appealing suspensions.
Unless you are TB27 ig?
WHAT!?
Zoinks!
My all-time favorite surprise reaction word.
Wow. Big stain on his reputation.
And a big loss for baseball.
Big loss for baseball! And so many kids loved him too.
Yeah too bad for the cocky, bat-flipping, show boating, fragile waste of revenue
AND STAY OFF MY LAWN!
kids these days, lemme just tell you. them darned video games, that’s what uh huh. ain’t got no respect.
Are you having a stroke?
Go home, grandpa
Maybe it’s Tatis’s nickname going forward – Big Stain.
Why you don’t give someone 341 million before they even reach arbitration
The suspension will be unpaid.
And the remaining years will all be paid in full when he injures himself riding a motorcycle during his time off with the suspension
LOL
He could take the Cespedes route and step in a gopher hole or get gored by a bull or whatever it is that happened to him.
It was somehow both at once Rct !!
lmao, I could not remember which one it was. Figures it was both!
Lol
not golfers! gophers! “oh we can do that! we don’t even need a reason”
bill murray is awesome in that flick, especially when eats the babe ruth bar after the pool is drained.
Luckily for him his contract is backloaded. He’s only losing $2-$3 million.
Yeah but SD is stuck with that huge contract…….jeezzz poor them
Doesn’t matter. His reputation is ruined now. No matter what he does in his career for here on out.
@qbrrt1996 probably not. He’s young enough that a productive career after this will be enough. Nobody harps on Nelson Cruz anymore for the same reason.
Different time in society and a different level player. Look how people treat Altuve after the stuff from 2017. People are just mean now and don’t forget. I see Tatis being treated like Altuve more than Cruz.
Exactly. It’s not about the money–he’ll still get more than he could ever spend, but reputation now and in future. Stain on his record, period.
People forget about things in about a week. He will be fine
I hear he’s hired Ryan Braun’s PR people.
He will also be missing the 1st 30 games of next season, so it won’t be easily forgotten. Maybe if it was contained to 1 season and he returned within that 1 season and played as well as before. Much harder for it to be forgotten when it’s over multiple seasons (and especially if there’s a decline in production).
And for Padres fans, they definitely won’t forget, especially considering the ramifications for their playoff chances and the small window of opportunity they have following the stupid trade for Juan So-so.
Honestly, this will probably push them to extend Soto. Need a better face than manny and tatis
@Sideline – Tatis, Jr. may be the one guy who could blow through most of his contract money in his lifetime. He’s known for his flash and lavish spending. He just might be stupid enough to blow through the majority of his earnings (unless he grows up).
Really? Correa was getting booed every pitch of every at bat during the twins two game series in LA, for cheating he did 5 years ago. Baseball players and baseball fans have long memories.
Yet those same fans don’t boo Betts. The hypocrisy is insane in LA.
Yeah right,
Soto’s numbers are so so.
Could he be any dumber? Oh well. What will his excuse be?
He’s getting paid a fortune. Why risk it taking anything? Beyond dumb
He’s risking maybe $5 million out of $340. He’ll be fine.
Maybe the PEDs are what got him his fortune in the first place.
Remember that his dad was tied to PEDs too, but was rumored to have snitched on other users in order to keep his name out of the Mitchell Report?
Good lord, how many times are you going to say that? You just looking for attention???? Lol…..
@MarlinsFanBase: I’m a little unclear on something, maybe you can provide some insight. Was Tatis’s father linked to PEDs???
Vermonster–It could have been worse. If Tatis had been with the Mets,, MarlinsFanBase would have posted it twice as often as he has.
So much for getting Tatis for peanuts. Look what he’s done to that franchise now? Smh
Not really anything, not like he’s getting paid while he’s suspended. And if he wants to keep playing, he better straighten his act up and play out of his mind next year
He’s done the Padres, good and proper!
I’m laughing so hard right now
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
OOPS!
That contract is going to end well…..
Maybe Padres can void contract “for cause”
I think that can only happen if he receives a permanent suspension. This is 80 games. I wonder if the insurance on that big contract covers a ped suspension for the 80 games.
For Tatis? It’s unpaid as far as SD is concerned.
No need for insurance as San Diego does not need to pay Tatis while suspended.
No Tatis has 2 more strikes to go now. I think next time would be the whole season, obviously with no playoffs.
it’s funny how everyone was so excited for him to come back
Happiest guy in the world? Kim Ha-seong.
Immediately responds by going 3-5
Like father, like son.
YASSS THEY BOTH HANDSOME
Unreal
@padreforlife- You might have to change your name now? Sorry.
@jjdoo2
Yes! It’s amazing how many people forgot that Fernando Sr. was rumored to have kept his name out of the Mitchell Report by snitching on other users.
You hit the nail on the head. Like father, like son.
Also, does everyone forget that when Tatis Sr. arrived with the Mets, he was the one that recommended for Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado to go to Anthony Galea? Reyes had a career batting average high. Carlos Beltran had a career resurgence after a tough start in NY. Carlos Delgado had a late career renaissance after he spent about a year and a half looking all but done…then after that career rejuvenation, he got injured and was never the same after that.
We could read it the first two times you commented about Tatis and the Mitchell report.
Also, Delgado never played again after that injury, he had one below average season (by his standards, still a 101 OPS+) in his entire career and he’s famously one of a few sluggers during that era who never tested positive, and Reyes’ three best seasons (and the two highest average years) came when he didn’t play with Tatis. Beltran was a lot better before Tatis, and then a lot later, and cheated in another way.
A+ response, @sams LOL
This is a delusional take. Reyes was in his prime and in a contract year. Beltran a year removed from a monster year and the best playoff performance in baseball history, had a down year in his first year in NY as a free agent, which has happened to a lot of players. He was also in the midst of his prime and then stayed there for about the next 9 seasons. Delgado had a great year in Miami, great first year in NY, a slightly down year in year 2 in NY where his batting average dropped a whole 13 points and then he was back to career norms the following season. Literally none of what you say is true or has any credibility.
@Put It In The Books (fka MetsFan22)
Actually, Reyes never had a season like that one career year…before or after.
Beltran struggled at the beginning. True. And prime may be a reason it was only one year. But you can’t ignore the issue I mentioned about Galea.
With Delgado, I can tell you either forget or aren’t old enough to remember. Delgado had a full bad season and was having a bad season the next year for the first half. Then, in the second half of that season, he exploded and was essentially the best player in the second half of that season to bring his numbers up. Before that, the year and a half, he was struggling with a lot of things at the plate to where everyone was writing him off because they saw his bat speed was done along with the torque off his bat. All of the sudden, in the second half of that season, his bat speed returned, and his torque was so explosive that he was actually knocking balls out the park that were low and outside after he spent a season and a half struggling to even pull balls out down the short part of RF. But I imagine even if you saw those clips, you aren’t one of the guys that actually played enough baseball (if at all) to even know what everyone was talking about back then.
And debate all you want, the facts are, they all went to Dr. Anthony Galea at the recommendation of Fernando Tatis Sr. Do you think they went o Galea for legit treatment? They even went against team physician and MLB rules to go visit him. Why’d they do that? All of them were also tied to Angel Presinal…against MLB’s ban of Presinal…just like other PED users A#Roids and Big Papi did.
Keep wearing those Mets Goggles.
TLDR. MarlinsFanBase obsessed with MetsFan22.
@MarlinsFanBase
I normally wouldn’t respond because it only dignifies your claim to some extent; however, you couldn’t be more wrong.
1. The above guy “@put it in the books” is completely unrelated to me. They can chime in if they want.
2. @MetsFan22 is completely unrelated to me. I joined this site in February of this year. I don’t know when that guy existed, and I really don’t understand the genesis of your presumption. They can chime in if they want. There are thousands of baseball fans who follow and comment on this site. Don’t you think it’s possible there could be more than person whose posts irritate you to this extent?
3. I have a busy career and an even busier calendar outside of work, living the west coast life in sunny San Diego. The idea that I would have the time on my hands to manage all of the usernames you claim I do is troubling to me. It really does bother me. Then again, you don’t know me so I really don’t blame you.
5. I notice you’ve been mostly silent on these boards since your boisterous proclamations in Spring Training about how “all the Mets fans will disappear on this site by June while you’d still be here”.
6. I’ve truly enjoyed watching you get roasted by EVERYONE on this post for repeating the same thing over and over again about Tatis, Sr. Never change, my friend. Never change.
Best,
Books
Hey I’m not sure if you heard yet but his dad, Tatis Sr was rumored to have been on the Mitchell report but snitched to stay off… like father like son hahahahaha
Marlinsfanbase was on every Mets thread last year after the Marlins made the playoffs in the shortened 2020 season. As if all
of a sudden the Marlins were a model franchise to emulate. Take away 2020 where they were only 2 games over .500 and the Marlins haven’t had a winning season since 2009.
Funny how quiet he has been this year as the Marlins endure yet another losing season.
MetsFan22 was a very boastful Mets fan similar to you (and MarlinsFanBase) who hasn’t been seen since around the time you joined. He had a relatively similar style in Mets bragging. I can’t say whether or not you are the same person or not, but there is literally no reason for RandomMarlinsFanWhoIsNotIndicativeOfTheEntireMarlinsFanBase to be so obsessive when their own team is terrible.
We get it, his Dad juiced up back in the day. I think this is the 5th post you made about.
beersy ..guess again coming up on almost 25x
Apparently I was skimming. 🙂
@jjdoo2- Seriously Tatis senior got caught with him to? I didn’t know that. Crazy!
Damn Tatis can’t even play this one off as a drug he was using to heal faster. Ridiculous how anyone, especially a high profile player thinks they could get away with this
Cause it’s not a drug to heal faster, and has minimal, if any, performance enhancing factors. It’s mainly used for dermatology.
But still, pretty stupid on his part
Yes, that was my point
Clostebol is a synthetic anabolic steroid and it is not used for dermatology nor will it help bones heal faster.
I’m not a dermatologist or a MD. I’m just a guy who read up on this and asked a family member who is a dermatologist.
One anti-inflammatory steroid with a similar name is clobetasol, but it doesn’t help with the infection.
These are two different things and one is rarely used for ringworm. The other is never used for ringworm.
Hahahahaha OMG WOW ARE YOU JOKING ” I DIDNT DO IT!!?”
Thoughts and Prayers for the Padres right now
Padres are going to seriously regret giving this clown a huge contract. He doesn’t seem to realize that you have to follow rules to play, for instance don’t ride a motorcycle when it says in your contract you aren’t allowed to ride one. Or you know, taking a banned substance
Did it actually stipulate you can’t ride a motorcycle?
No, he’s just talking out of his behind
Apparently it did state that in his contract. I know Tom Brady had a clause in his contract that he was not allowed to go skiing while under contract (which he broke numerous times). These types of restrictions are not uncommon in sports contracts.
Wow! Sales on that jersey just hit the garbage.
BWAHAHAHA !!! I knew it! The sudden elite offense, constant injuries. The White Sox are now completely vindicated regarding the Shields trade. All I have to say to the two Padres fans out there is good luck with ya boy!
Let’s see how he plays after he comes back. Ortiz put together a hall of fame career after being on the Mitchell Report.
@jjdoo2- Ortiz like ARod, Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire shouldn’t even be able to sniff near the Hall Of Fame.
Then take out all of the rest of the cheaters such as Pud Galvin, as well as the racists like Cap Anson. It’s the only way salvage the reputation of the Hall of Fame.
I disagree. They should all be in the Hall. But if you don’t think so that’s alright too because you are at least consistent about it.
@goastros: Why are your panties all bunched-up about….”racism”?! Why is that the topic that you’ve chosen to obsess over in order to make yourself feel like a hero?
@Animalize: Why are your panties in a bunch over some one wanting the hall of fame to be consistent when it comes to its morality clause and how it affects who goes in?! Why did this bother you so much that you felt the need to chime in and imply the bogus notion that only some one who wants to feel like a hero would wish the HOF would be consistent on its morality clause and how it affects who goes in?
Pud Galvin cheated?
bleacherreport.com/articles/573866-pud-galvin-theg…
He just wants to make it clear that he belittles social justice so he can get a pat on the head from other people who belittle social justice.
I wasn’t talking about racism at all so it’s weird that he/she/it would go there. I was justing it as an example of how the HOF morality clause that voters use to keep Bonds out is ridiculous because the morals of the HOF were already compromised. I wrote a paper on this back in college.
I don’t know that we’re vindicated, Shields was hot garbage, but this kid really is not doing himself any favors.
No you’re wrong
Seems like a bit of an overreaction.
2 Padres fans…. is 5 more than fans of the team from the ghetto $h!th0le that elected lori freaking lightfoot. LMAO.
Hey!! that comment was totally uncalled for and totally on point.
@alwaysgo4two- I thought my comment was right on, and true.
@AJ: Have no fear: “she” was not elected.
chance the rapper said it was ok
At least they did not vote for the traitor, Trump.
ChiSoxCity, your trolling is embarrassing. Find a new hobby.
Ok, now I’m trolling. Six fans have gotten DRAGGED MERCILESSLY over recent years due to the Tatis trade. Now that the truth has come to light, we have a right… no, an OBLIGATION to point out the White Sox scouting report on this kid was dead on. It is what it is, just take the “L” and hold it.
White Sox “fans” are always more worried about other teams and their players. Without question, the White Sox are 2022’s biggest disappointment. Suck it.
The Pirates are 2022’s biggest disappointment. Their world series hopes were sunk last October instead of December.
@jschwenn88- I hate trolls 2! Lmao!
As long as you don’t hate the movie Troll 2. That one is amazing! I still tell the family about my vacations to Nilbog as a child.
Haha that movie is a blast from the past!
Average MLBTR ChiSox fan:
I mean considering how Shields pitched for you guys Tatis basically has to pull a Felipe Vazquez for you guys to win that trade.
But Felipe Rivero was actually a fine pitcher for the Pirates!
Funny cause when he was playing well, he tested clean plenty of times. His only dirty test here was when he was injured anyways, can’t really say his “elite offense” was solely attributed to peds
Dudes trash
Trade.
Can players on the restricted list be traded?
Definitely not if they have a no trade clause
Which he doesn’t
Upon further investigation it appears he does have a full NTC through 2028 which gets downgraded to a 10-team NTC after 2028.
I think it’s a real possibility he will get traded, especially with clubhouse reaction and Preller’s comment about losing trust. It might be the only way to extend Soto as well. But to who ( in the American L)?
Soto isn’t signing an extension. Nice job trying to sneak it in there tho!
dang I was hoping you wouldn’t notice ? !
Gotta feel for Padres fans. So many acquisitions and so much excitement over the last few years and it never seems to work out.
No one feels bad for those fairweather clowns. No one.
Way to live up to your username, mrnotsoniceguy.
Because San Diego is in the thick of the race and was expecting Tatis back for the stretch run from injury. They just have gotten the news it’s a possibility hence pulled the trigger. As to why send him on a rehab assignment, they probably requested multiple tests to confirm and that takes time. A lot of times teams are aware a month or so ahead of time and they do whatever they can to retest or repute the accusation until they’ve run out. That’s what happened here.
They would never send him on a rehab if he tested positive. They’d have started the suspension immediately
How will SD survive? They only have Machado and Soto. So so offensive players. Shoddy pitching too.
there’s nothing shoddy about our pitching. how long has your head been buried?
Can you identify sarcasm?
Cause they have lost 17 of the last 19 to the team they are chasing.
Sheesh. At least those of us who live in San Diego have plenty to do once baseball season ends. This sucks for baseball.
“Can’t take your eyes off him..” Hmm, no wonder A-Roid loves Tatis.
glol
What a putz.
weLcome to sLam diego
Hahahahahahhahaha
Most shocking unexpected story of the year!!! WOW!! And he signed that 300mill contract. Hurt himself dirt biking was it? Now this, what a bad teammate.
He’s a likable person, so I can only assume he will get the David Ortiz treatment and people will forget about it. He’ll make some remark about having no idea how I tested positive and I’ll get to the bottom of it, while never mentioning it again.
Young and stupid. One dumb thing after another … motorcycles and now PED
@Redwolves3 Can’t blame him for listening to his father in this case.
What do you mean about his father???
He’s the Chris Sale of hitters
He’s one of few people that didn’t actually try to deny it. Did you read the story?
I see that the site was showing comments as being far more recent than they actually were, so it’s possible that part wasn’t there when you posted. Guess there were so many comments on this post that it broke the site.
His statement came after my comment.
I still remember Manny (The Most Selfish Player in the Game) Machado screaming at Tatis in the dugout,”It’s not about YOU!” That tells me all I need to know about Jr. He made Machado look like a team player.
I don’t care too much about steroids but rules are rules.
This sucks for SD fans though. Soto probably wasn’t expecting this when he got dealt to SD. SD might miss the playoffs this year with Tatis
No refunds.
He’s a bust.
When he’s not falling off a motorcycle he’s cheating.
He’s certainly not a bust. He’s a very talented player who has already produced enough to surpass ever being a bust, he just keeps making stupid decisions.
Bust? No
Disappointment? So far, absolutely.
FML FTJ
You got Soto at least (for a few years?)
I’m so sad for baseball.
Imagine if a team legit cheated to win the 2017 World Series and none of the players got disciplined and the team got to keep their title?
Only way baseball’s reputation could be tarnished more….oh wait….
Cold hard facts right here. Baseball doesn’t have any reputation anymore. Cheating IS baseball.
Manfred is a circus clown in a suit. Simple as.
Imagine thinking the team they were facing in that World Series wasn’t doing the same thing.
jjd002 – using whataboutism to defend a team of trash can virtuosos is hilarious.
Not at all. I’m just repeating what multiple players have said. Hell, one of their own players was the largest recipient of the sign stealing era. Without it he’s a below average player. Just like PEDs in the 90s/00s it was a league wide issue.
I don’t doubt that other teams were doing it, but until you can provide proof that it was happening at the same level, they’re gonna stand out. Personally, I don’t care that much because I agree that other teams were probably doing it to a similar level, but without proof people are going to, rightfully so, have different opinions.
I can agree with that. But the way the Astros player vilified, no player would dare admit it until after the batter is way over or another Mike Fiers pops up.
Imagine a loser hung up on something from five seasons ago involving lots of players who continue to rake, could it be a Yankees fan?
Unclenolanrules big mad bc his team only won a ring bc of cheating and lost every other WS appearance.
Loser.
Better than your crappy team who hasn’t sniffed a World Series in like what 13 years? Or is it the other crappy team that claims they won a World Series after 60 games and no fans in a neutral ballpark?
Hey Stroh, I’m truly sorry for offending you. I’d be a miserable person too if my favorite team’s ONLY World Series title was basically invalid…invalid like Altuve’s 2017 MVP.
No matter what you say or think, you can never change the fact that your cherished 2017 Astros will forever be known as scumbags and that they will never obtain the respect of anyone outside of Houston. Cope and seethe, little man.
Did you know that some people genuinely believe that those Rockets championships should have asterisks by them due to Jordan not playing a full season during either championship? Therefore, is it not fitting that the Astros championship has an asterisk by it as well? Honestly, Cravenmoorehead, you sound offended yourself, but I get it: what the Astros did was wrong. Despite how you and other fans feel, the league in general has moved. Case in point: Trey Mancini, a cancer survivor, was excited about joining the Astros. I hope one day you can move on too and find it within yourself to stop being so bitter over it. You can also follow the advice you gave to Stroh: cope and seethe, little man, for the Astros are your 2017 world series champions regardless of how you feel. What you decide to do is up to you: move on, or live life bitter and angry. The choice is yours. Either way, you sound like you need a hug.
Goastros123,
I appreciate the mental gymnastics on your end, but there are millions of baseball fans who feel the same as I do.
How would you feel if you found out the White Sox cheated in 2005? Your fan base would lose their collective minds. So quit trying to project your insecurities on others for being “bitter” because your 2017 WS is forever tainted. You should come to terms with that instead of being in denial just because it was your favorite baseball team.
Cope. Seethe.
🙂
Cravenmoorehead,
I appreciate you reinforcing my point: I accepted a long time ago that they cheated and it was out of my hands. By accepting that, it was totally easy for me to move on and accept that how I felt about all of it was totally irrelevant. Yes, many fans do share your feelings of anger and bitterness and I hope they can move on too. Also, the Astros weren’t good enough in 2005.
Cope. Seethe. Regardless of how any of us feel, the Astros are your 2017 World Series champions. Don’t be afraid to ask for a hug.
Also, CravenMoorehead, the White Sox cheating would not have bothered me because I was in middle school in 2005 and that year was the beginning of me being an Astros fan. It’s funny you talk about projecting insecurities because you sound miserable and yet you called some one else miserable. Lol. If you just let go and accept that how you feel about it is irrelevant, I promise you’ll feel so much better. You don’t want to go through life bitter and angry. However, as I already said, it’s entirely up to you. If that’s how you wish to live, then guess what: they did cheat. That title is tainted. However, at the end of the day, the Astros are your 2017 world series champions so cope and seethe.
You can have the last word in your next reply, my friend. Always remember: regardless how you or the rest of us baseball fans feel, the Astros are your 2017 world series champions. The league has moved on, even if us fans haven’t. I sincerely hope you’re able to let go of all that anger and bitterness you have inside. If you choose to hold on to it, cope and seethe.
goastros123 so mad he wrote a 3 part reply lmao
2017***
Last I checked the baseball world is still turning.
Padres should have voided his contract when they had the chance.
I was pretty pissed and called their flagship radio station mentioning that they should not pay for his non-baseball injury. The host, a guy they call “Coach,” said that wouldn’t be good will and could sour the relationship between the player and the team…
Hahahahahaha…
I really hope that they don’t make the playoffs this year. AJ Preller obviously didn’t hire a babysitter for this damn piece of man-child…
The idea that it’d sour the relationship isn’t crazy, but it should be. He violated the terms of his contract and somehow the SD is supposed to be the bad guy for not paying him for doing so…
Where’s that Padres fan that was talking all that trash right after the deadline? HAHH
A’s need to release Elvis andrus so his $15 mill option doesn’t trigger. Maybe he can be a short term veteran infield help for Padres last couple months
Wonder if a non-team related doctor suggested he take Clostebol, telling him hed be back at full strength faster.
Well, he didn’t even know he had a broken wrist until spring training. If he went to a doctor outside of the team, I would hope that MLB punish him even more…
If there is one redeeming thing out of all of this, it is that that idiot is only getting half of the money he’s stealing from the fans of San Diego.
Tatis last seen rehabbing and hat shopping with Mike Trout – Jeff Pasan
Trout and Tatis need to give something to Bellinger. They need to put Belli on the juice too!
Bellinger needs electronic sign stealing again. He hasn’t been the same since that was outlawed.
It was outlawed by 2017, thus the Astros punishment. Bellinger’s best year was 2019?
Yeah Bellinger should ask the Astros how they get around that rule
Perhaps the correct term should have been one mlb started cracking down on it. That was after the 2019 season, which was his best season and last as a useful mlb piece.
Wow! I definitely didn’t see that coming!
Like father, like son.
Maybe he should have snitched on other users like his dad did to stay off the Mitchell Report.
Lol I laughed out loud while picking out scented candles at Bed Bath and Beyond
The truth is funny in this cases…isn’t it?
LOL at the cheating Tatis family!
Tatis Jr. paying the price for Tatis Sr.!
You are one note. We get it.
Sorry for that, but I was always ticked off about the guys that were rumored to have kept their names off of the Mitchell Report by snitching on others. This is a case of the son paying for the father.
And shame to his father for this because it’s hard to believe that Tatis Sr. didn’t have something to do with this just like Andy Pettite’s dad did.
So let’s say you’re drinking too much in college. Let’s also say your father drank too much in college. Is it logical or rational to believe your father is the one supplying you with your dorm room pony kegs?
Go home, Mule, you’re drunk.
We got it the first time.
Lmfaoooo
Look, I’m a Dodgers fan, I hate the Padres, but I respected Tatis and his way of doing things. Hard not to with that kind of talent. But this, I just lost all respect for him. It’s sad. It will stain his entire career. Any MVP or accolades that he wins later will always be in question. Sad day for baseball.
Not a Pads or LAD fan, but did you lose respect for Mookie after 2018? Gange after 2002-2004?
I won’t forget that the Dodgers lost to the Red Sox in 2018 but the important factor of that year, the red sox weren’t using the extra video during the WS. That best of 7, that World Series, was completely legit, and the Dodgers lost, badly.
Lol. I was always curious what mental gymnastics it took from Dodger fans to hate Houston, but still love Mookie. Now I know.
When was Mookie’s PED suspension?
Idiot
SD might’ve known about this hence why they trade for Soto in the first place.
Why send him on a rehab assignment if you knew he wasn’t going to play and give up all that talent especially Abrams? San Diego flat out got blindsided by this.
This clown really thought he was changing baseball. Karma is a b!tvh @TonyGwynn19
I think you’re giving a random internet troll way too much credit over a professional sports team’s capabilities, or maybe I just don’t understand karma.
TonyGwenn19 isn’t a real Padres fan. It’s a fake account
A few questions:
1. Do we think this is gonna be one of those “my doctor/rehab people gave me this thing we thought was allowed and it wasn’t used as a PED.”
2. Why would a guy who’s already secured his bag and is rehabbing and not expected to be back until next year anyway risk losing any of his money or tainting his reputation this early into his career and contract?
3. Does this mean guys like Tatis, Jr. and Cano were always doing PEDs and signed their big contracts while on PEDs?
4. Even if you were doing PEDs leading up to a big contract deal, once that massive contract is signed, why keep doing the PEDs beyond pride? The money is *guaranteed*. If you suddenly go from a 25 HR 100 RBI 5 WAR player to a 9 HR 50 RBI 2.5 WAR player, you still get paid the money over the years on that contract.
So is it just ego, pride, insecurity and wanting to “live up to the deal” and knowing you can’t au natural?
Or… is it actual injuries and discomfort and the PEDs help guys heal faster, play through discomfort and limited mobility, etc. and so it’s actually done because they’re physically miserable?
Thoughts?
My guess is actually a combination of all of them. Pride and ego probably being some of the major factors but I also think that rehab hasn’t been going as well as planned. He was supposed to be back by the All star break. And my guess is that he might not of known everything but basically said, do whatever it takes to get me back to full health. Plus, with the Padres in the playoff race, it became crucial for him to be back at max. And therein, lies the problem.
With Tatis Jr., don’t forget that his father, Tatis Sr., was also tied to PEDs. He was rumored to have kept his name out of the Mitchell Report by being one of the players that cooperated with the investigation and snitched on other users. Tatis Sr. was among the guys tied to PEDs with teammates with the Rangers, the Cardinals…and after he found a way to be good enough to stay on an MLB roster at the end of his career with the Mets, he was the guy that recommended Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado to go to Anthony Galea.
For anyone old enough to remember daddy’s history, it’s not a surprise that Tatis Jr. is using now.
How can we forget it? you’ve posted it almost a dozen times in the first 20 minutes . Here – I’m gonna throw you a bone…Wow I did not know that about his dad…thanks for the info you must be really into baseball..great job!
Accolades received..please add something new to the chat…or kick back and enjoy the thread. without posting.
@riffraff
My thing is that I don’t understand why so many people are shocked or speculating about things while ignoring a known thing about his dad’s history in the game.
It’s like if Keither Hernandez or any of the 1970s or 80s Pirates had kids in the game now who tested positive for cocaine use. Would anyone really be shocked?
Same thing. I’m just amazed that people just forget Tatis Sr.’s history with PEDs when discussing this thing aboutTatis Jr.
It’s simple. Like father, like son. Very likely Tatis Jr. has been using all along because his father gave it to him…in the very least, set the example.
No your thing is you have an odd need to post the same thing over and over again..has to be close to 20x now. We get it you have a fun fact and want everyone to know and agree or not act shocked but its beating a dead horse at this point. My only question is .. are you going for a set number like 75x or a % of overall comments like 10%
MarlinsFanBase
========================
Dude, you have to chill out. Do you think posting the same thing 10-20 times is going to make people pay any attention to you?
@tuna fan base
No one is forgetting it. We are all just trying to ignore your nonsense. What sins of your father have you done? Did your dad repeat the same thing over and over, ad nauseam?
This is the side effect of having so many of the posters on this site yet to graduate from high school.
He has to post about this. He has nothing else to care about because the Marlins are in Year 19 of the rebuild but are still an awful team (38-60 against teams not named the Nationals).
1. Of course. Players never have accountability
2.He was coming back within a couple weeks.
3.Prob started after he was always injured and hoped hed stay healthy
4.Ego
@Dnaiel His dad did them too. What makes you think he wasn’t using them all along?
Players tend to want to rehab injuries faster. Even when you’re locked into the big contract, some still feel pressure to get back on the field faster. It’s that “don’t want to disappoint my team” kinda deal. Perhaps after injuring himself in a non baseball related manner, he felt he owed it to his team to get back as soon as he could. Poor decision making overall though.
What makes you think he wasn’t using them all along when his dad did them too?
Give it a rest Marlinsboy. PETA is about to come after you for beating this horse to death. We get it. His dad used PEDS too. He’s a young, dumb, spoiled baseball player, who just lit his career on fire. Has nothing to do with his dad.
Fernando’s statement is in the article. He states he applied a ringworm medication , which unknown to him, contained the banned substance…yeah right
This is the big one. I’m coming to join you, Nietzsche.
Good lord man, do you really feel the need to be validated this badly?
Here you go: I agree with you. It’s so obvious that Sr and Jr were both juicing. I bet his dad was the one who got him hooked.
Fernando’s statement is in the article. He states he applied a ringworm medication , which unknown to him, contained the banned substance…yeah right
Yes, we are
I think a PED hit should trigger the team being able to release the player, and the contract dissolved.
Personally too, I think something like a suspension for 80 games at this point is too light.
At least the rest of the current season and the complete season after. Add penalties like additional suspension time for playing in other leagues or countries.
After one hit, get another, lifetime ban.
Get the juicers out.
MLBPA would NEVER allow that,
He must have been jealous of his dad’s ears.
That’s just a joke. I wonder if he turned to it because of his injury
Nope, it wasn’t the injury.
Go see the history of Tatis Sr. and the rumors that he kept his name out of the Mitchell Report by snitching on other users when the investigation was happening.
This is a case of like father, like son.
I wish you had brought this up earlier.
Couldn’t have happened to a more arrogant guy.
Will Soto look at this clown show and refuse whatever deal the Pads offer? If I’m Soto’s rep, my ask just went vertical.
I am stunned, I didn’t think Tatis rolled like this
Even though his father did?
Even though every slugger from the DR does?
Wow what a scumbag
Don’t call tuna fan base a scumbag.
Imagine that……
They should be able to void his contract. This stain will never be removed.
Void his contract
And just like that any chance of a Soto extension just went poof
This explains the push for soto. They likely knew for some time.
Go Cubs Go!
Back in April-ish I suggested the injury might be camouflage for a drug violation. The commenters weren’t buying it, to say the least. Conspiracy nutter in the house, etc. Well, waddya know?
You still are a nut. Both the injury and the PEDs are real.. If they were covering for him in April, the suspension would’ve come out a long time ago.
If that were the case, the Padres would have wanted that out so the suspension could have been served while healing, not served right as he was ready to come back.
This is a certified correlation equals causation moment.
This does more to refute that than prove it. As beersy mentions, this is basically the worst time for this news to come out.
Haiku for you:
He’s still in there now.
No doors, no windows. Just him.
And the soft white walls…
I find it touching that there is so much support for the notion that these billionaires that own professional sports would never try subterfuge or that the rivalries between them would never spill out into the open like this. Somebody (Dodgers? Astros?) broke an oath and spilled the beans on Tatis. Expect reprisals. More WTF reveals of other abusers as payback. Judge? Trout? ….
Cheater cheater cheater lol. Lil’ Sweet done got caught juicing. See ya don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya bruh. I’m sure he’ll have the standard ‘I don’t know how it got into my system’ answer for everyone. This is how you drop a pile of $h1t on your reputation right from go. This will always be hanging there for his entire career. Fans will always say ‘but he’s a juicer’ and I won’t blame any of them.
What a complete moron!!
He must have eaten lead paint as a child… Hahaha!
Couldn’t have been that dumb to know to get the bag early with his usage and injuries.
I mean…it tastes so good
Definitely an idiot move. How long has he been taking them? He knows he’s one of the best players in the league. This only makes him look like a moron and this negatively affects his team. Will the Padres be Trade Deadline Champs this year?
The preferred development cocktail of the Dominican Republic. Just do jazz hands like Papi they’ll knight you in no time.
I feel bad for Padres fans.
Big blow to the Padres. Betting on a collapse and another playoff miss.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@CardsFan77- Maybe the Padres will do the right thing and trade Soto to the Cardinals or the Yankees in the off-season?
Padres are a bunch of frauds.
Do we have a statement from Tatis? I’m curious if it’s “I didn’t know I took that,” or “I take full responsibility…”
I’m sure it will be the same scripted statement like all the rest. “I’m sorry for letting my team and family down. I’m very careful. It might have been a burrito. I’m going to learn from this, and move on……with all my money”
He says he took medicine for RINGWORM.
Yeah man, we saw your stupid post where you said it 53 times. You’re super cool.
Now I just want the burrito
I believe there is a substance or two that be come up on tests in extremely small amounts where cross contamination at the factory could possibly cause a failed test. Just saying, I wouldn’t immediately assume a player was juicing when they get a PED suspension. There’s been several recently suspended players that were very adamant about not juicing.
Teams already made a statement, I’m sure they have talked with Tatis beforehand and most likely got an omission from him of guilt
Do you mean admission? Or are you saying he didn’t tell them he was guilty?
Most guys deny it, even when they’re guilty as hell.
Can we get James Shields back?
