Braves have recalled Kyle Muller by the way.

I doubt that Kimbrel is going to have a high price tag on him. He’s a veteran reliever who is struggling with consistency. I’d be surprised if he made within $6 million of what he is earning this year.
With that being said, he totally seems like a Rays project. The Rays had some interest in him back when he hit free agency back in 2018-2019 on a high-priced one-year deal. If his price is relatively low, they might decide to kick the tires on him and work their magic.
Deleted Userr
I liked Kimbrel to the Rays the first time he was a FA.
LordD99
He had a great rebound the first half of 2021 for the Cubs. An incredible one really. He’s not been consistently good since, and removing the first half of last year, he hasn’t been consistently very good since 2018.
A team will sign him. Same with Chapman, who could be cut in a matter of days. How the mighty can fall quickly!
Rsox
Problem is 2018 is when the inconsistencies started. It was Chris Sale on the mound to close out the the World Series not Kimbrel. Kimbrel going to the White Sox derailed the progress he made during the first half of last season. If he can be had ultra cheap a team like the Rays, or teams like the Marlins, Reds, Nationals looking for a vet they can flip at the deadline could all have interest
Longtimecoming
Tatis (when suspension ends), Soto, Machado, Judge, Cronenworth, Profar and whoever else – who needs pitching when you score 10 runs a game?
Rsox
Someone asked about Michael Conforto signing a three year deal with the Marlins. Does anyone really expect the Marlins to sign another corner Outfielder to a multi-year contract? The Marlins have more Corner Outfielders in their organization than they have Outfield corners, they need a Center Fielder and honestly a JBJ type on a one year deal wouldn’t be that bad for them
mlb1225
Does anyone expect a team to offer Conforto a multi-year deal? Maybe with an option year or two, but Conforto is nearly 30, coming off major surgery, and had a down season the last time he played. If he gets multiple years, they’ll be option or vesting options. I’m seeing a one-year deal with a low base salary in the $5-$8 million range but a decent bit in performance bonuses. Maybe tack on a player option second season.
Rsox
Agreed, he likely takes a pillow contract next season. LH power hitters are always in demand and on a one year contract he should draw plenty of interest. If he’s looking for multiple years he’s probably going to be disappointed
LordD99
Not sure of Conforto’s hitting profile, but the restriction on shifts should help him in 2023.
Longtimecoming
With Padres no longer having Myers and also potentially losing Profar to opt out (although most likely renegotiate to stay), no 1B on roster, I could see a 1 year, incentive / options contract for him.
Could be good for both sides.
Deleted Userrr
If I’m Preller I’m telling Profar “You can use the opt-out however you want and we will pay you whatever your contract says we have to pay you without complaining. But we’re not paying you a single penny more and if you opt out you can go play elsewhere.”
Rsox
Cronenworth likely moves to 1B with Kim playing 2B
Deleted Userr
Nope. Kim full time SS. Tatis to OF or 1B.

If Judge gets 61 homers or more, will there be an asterisk next to his name?
.
Why would there be an asterisk next to his name? You said Judge not Barry right?
Longtimecoming
Trumbo you might not be old enough to remember that pre-steroid era and for many, many years, Maris’ name had an * by it in the record books because he had the benefit of using the 162nd game to break the record which was more than the number of games when Ruth played.
I guess the * didn’t have any meaning after the steroid era with Bonds and company all exceeding Maris.
.
The movie “61” is actually really good and does go into that stuff.
Longtimecoming
Agree.
gbs42
There was never an * in the record books, only in commissioner Ford Frick’s mind.

If the AL East is the toughest division… why have they only won 2 world series in the last 10 years? They only represented the AL 3 times… the west 3 times and the central 4 times.
gbs42
Because anything can happen in the playoffs.
The AL East has four teams above .500 and another one not too far below despite beating up on each other 76 games per season. That means they’re winning often against the other divisions. I’m curious how next year’s more balanced schedule will affect the standings.
.
gbs is correct. ANYTHING can happen in the playoffs. Every game is a coin flip.

I find it pretty lazy to speculate Detroit as being in on both Contreras at C and Segura at 2B. The Tigers still have Schoop signed for another year, as well as Harold Castro, Willi Castro, and Kreidler as potential options at 2B. Haase has been excellent this year at C, and Rogers should be healthy. I see them looking for depth at C. I could see them bringing Barnhart back before going after Contreras.

“Wins are a good way of evaluating pitchers and player opt-out clauses benefit teams!” XD XD XD
BobGibsonFan
Pitchers with the most wins this year… Kyle Wright and Verlander… I bet they get some votes for Cy Young.
Deleted Userr
Sandy will win in the NL and it will be unanimous.
Realistically Verlander will win in the AL but I’d be tempted to vote for Cease because he has fewer wins.
BobGibsonFan
Verlander leads AL pitchers in ERA, Wins, Winning percentage, WHiP. Cease leads AL Pitchers in walks. Hmmm… tough choice.
I would probably go with Alcantara. Wright will get some votes though. Fried also. Urias was 7th in Cy Young last year and he led the NL in wins. Wins mean something.
Deleted Userr
Not to anyone with even half a brain they don’t.
BobGibsonFan
Oooo, if I don’t agree with you then I a dumb dumb… wow.
Twins will gladly accept Correa’s opt out.
BobGibsonFan
If Verlander were 0 and 17 with all those other stats… Pretty sure he doesn’t win the Cy Young. He might get a few votes… but wins mean something.
Deleted Userr
If Verlander were 0-17 with all those stats and he didn’t win the CYA then they need to get new voters. The pitcher win has no place in baseball. Never did.
The Twins will accept Correa’s opt out because they have no choice but they won’t do it gladly. They would be able to trade him for prospects if not for the opt-out. With the opt-out they lose him for nothing. Which one sounds better to you?
BobGibsonFan
Harambe, you’re talking out your ape hole now. The pitcher win has always had a place in baseball. There’s a reason it’s not called the Walter Johnson Award.
Deleted Userr
No it has not. It has more to do with the offense than the pitcher and always has.
Deleted Userr
Yeah, that’s what I thought.
The pitcher win plus a quarter means 25 cents.
