Minor MLB Transactions: 6/25/23

By Mark Polishuk | June 25, 2023 at 2:32pm CDT

Catching up on some minor moves from around baseball…

  • The Tigers outrighted Braden Bristo to Triple-A after the right-hander cleared waivers.  Bristo was designated for assignment last weekend and can’t yet reject an outright assignment, even though this is the second time Bristo has been DFA’ed this season.  The Tigers claimed Bristo off waivers from the Rays at the start of May, and the righty has a 2.57 ERA over seven total innings of work with Detroit and Tampa Bay.  This marks the 28-year-old’s first bit of Major League action, after seven minor league seasons spent mostly in the Yankees farm system.

If that’s the case then it’s a downgrade as Nevin is not better than Maton. Would be nice if the Tigers had a competent Front Office as Harris seems to be in way over his head

Not really, Jay. What do you do when you have 18 major league players and 26 roster spots to fill? You’re going to have AAAA players in that case.

Hopefully Bristo get more of a test drive once some spots get cleared at the trade deadline.

Hopefully Maton will find his swing in Toledo. He has gotten lots of walks but not enough hits. Nevin was scratched from Toledo’s ggame. Uggh. Call up Camargo, Lipcius, Malloy, Solak, even Wenceel Perez but pleaaasssseee no more of the failed Tyler Nevin experiment.

Malloy has been swinging well again of late. Might as well bring him up. Not sure what else they’re looking for unless they consider him more of an outfielder

Read that they have moved Malloy to the outfield. The last 3 games he played 3rd he made an error in each

Yea I was seeing this too. Even so not a problem to bring up an outfielder when mckinstry and Ibanez can both play third. So can Short who should also be in the lineup a bit more. If you don’t want Malloy, Parker Meadows deserves a shot.

Harris signed Nevin off the scrap heap so to serve his ego he has to prove it to everyone else he was right, regardless as to how many games this costs the Tigers in loses. He must be related to the old Lions GM Bob Quinn who suffered from the same malady…being the smartest guy in the room. Anyway, us Tiger fans are DOOMED with this guy!!!

Nevin didn’t pan out but Lorenzen, Vierling, Shreve, Ibanez, Holton and McKinistry all have to varying degrees. As far as I’m concerned the jury is still out on Maton…bad avg but his 14.3% walk rate was one of the best in the league. Still hope for him. I see some positive progress with Harris in his first season.

Motor City, I agree with most of that. Still, Wenceel Perez is struggling at Erie (AA) and might not even reach Toledo until next year. He’s definitely not ready for Detroit.

Nevin is probably a better 3rd baseman than Maton. Honestly, I like Zach Short at 3rd or at 2nd with either Ibanez or Schoop at 3rd. Short is the best infield defender the Tigers have.

There’s got to be a better bat in Toledo than Maton, right? It’s definitely not Nevin. Marisnick is also a huge offensive liability despite his quality defense.

Tigers need Greene and Baddoo back.

Talk about National Secrets, who is coming up ? It seems like a surprise is coming, as there is still no line up at 5.13 pm on a 8pm start. Is it Meadows ? Keith ? If it’s Meadows they may be flying his whole gang into the game. The longer the delay, the more speculation something is going on that is outside of the Nevin.
