When is the waiver claim order determined or set? When player placed on waivers or when waiver period of placing claims passes?
Thanks

Over/under on Ohtani signings squashed by physicals.
The house will start the number at 2.5.
briar-patch thatcher
2.5 is an amateur line. He’s either signing with the Dodgers, Mariners, or Red Sox (if they want to make up for the Betts debacle).
Longtimecoming
Never leave out the Padres and right now, the Giants are a fair bet. The down side on Dodgers is their history of no long term pitcher deals – will they stick with history or will they change for Ohtani is the question. Now, with the injury, that question gets even murkier so I don’t see how everyone just jumps on the Dodgers train as the MOST likely team.
There is the “everyone wants to be a Dodger” myth but we have seen some recent trends busting that up.
I’m the end it will be whatever Ohtani wants to pick from and none of us know that.
Fever Pitch Guy
briar – I agree Ohtani would help bring back some of the fans that were lost because of the Mookie trade, but I think there’s zero chance the Sox will give a $500M+ contract to any player.
Longtimecoming
Fever – I second that and from prior signing no real reason to even think he will consider an east past team. Like I said, we don’t know if he has changed his attitude on that since though.
Maybe even a 1 year 50/mil deal to DH and rehab and go for it again next year.

Legitimately the books line. But lets call Vegas amateurs ♂️

If a team wanted to claim every player put on waivers, could they? Or, does MLB put teams at the back of the line once they claim someone? MLB.com mentioned that, but this site and others don’t say anything about these particular waivers placing teams at the back if they claim someone. Can someone please clarify? “If a club has already previously claimed a player on outright waivers in a given year, the club’s claiming priority will be moved to last among the 30 clubs.” – MLB.com

I just found an answer on MLB.com, but I don’t see why these have different rules than ither waivers.

Why do many people assume that Shohei is going with the highest bidder? This is not a given. He will sign where he thinks he can be in a winning environment but he also wants to live in a place comparable to his current Newport Beach residence. He will go where he wants as long as the offer isn’t insulting. As a long time former resident of Southern California, I can tell you that Marina del Rey in LA County is a nice area but it isn’t even close to the luxurious amenities of Bal Harbour in Newport Beach. If the Dodgers want him, I suggest that they offer limousine service so Shohei doesn’t have to put up with the insane traffic from Newport Beach to the Dodgers ballpark.

Good take; Ohtani has already shown by coming to America when he did, that money is not his primary motivating factor. He’s not like a Boras client, who will play anywhere, anytime, irregardless of fit and winning culture, if the money is right.
Samuel
Marin Dodger;
Brought it up before….
With the freeway traffic in SoCal it would be a minimum of a 2 hour drive each way to get between LA and Newport Beach. Heck, he could fly up to the Bay Area and play for the Giants in less time.
Since San Diego has built up their traffic is horrendous as well, but I can’t estimate the time of the automobile commute to downtown SD from Newport Beach.
I’ve been Ohtani’ed out for some time. One player can only do so much in a game – as we’ve seen with him and the Angels. I get that he’ll supposedly take a team over the top, but he’ll get a long-term contract and how many teams stay contenders for years at a time?
gbs42
How does anyone know his priorities, whether going with the highest bidder, to be in a winning environment, someplace comparable to his current residence, or any other reason? We’re not Ohtani, so everyone is just speculating.

Do the Angels deal Trout?
Would they take a Jobe, Flores and Baez combo?
It passes the trade simulator with the Angels sending some money.

It’s more like how many of his desired destinations are currently set up for serious runs for a Division title. Of course the Dodgers qualify in that respect but so do the Mariners. The money is not going to be a problem for the club lucky enough to attract him as long as the offer is reasonable. Yes, he will get a long term contract. It would be an insult to not offer one.

Anybody who thinks.a.baseball player should.get paid $50M/year is anti-American and should be run out of town by McCarthy.
Devalues the dollar, let’s the world know Americans are no longer capable of being the leaders of the free world…..lost focus.
