O’s …. rooting for the organization, feel good story …. Until this Brown debacle , making it hard to root for the O’s now as an organization.
    Karma got them last night.
    Way to ruin a season.

Angels – It is so crazy and has been going on for so long. The Paranormal Activity surrounding this team is too hard to ignore. People spread tales of the stadium being built on a ancient burial ground or something like this. They are a cursed organization. I have been a fan for over 50 years and I believe this will never change. In 2002 they changed their entire uniform scheme to the color red, I think that tricked the evil spirits for one year to allow them to win..lol

Homer – I think it’s less spiritual and more bad ownership. Once Ohtani leaves and Moreno sells the team, the tides will turn again. We won in 2002 on the same “burial ground”.

And I think it has more to do with bad management, not necessarily.

These GMs have made so many more poor moves than good ones.

Exactly; it’s a bad owner, Moreno, who refuses to learn from his mistakes, not evil spirits. Moreno finally gets out from underneath the Puhjols, Upton & Hamilton disasters and then he could not wait to sign an overpriced malingerer like Anthony “I cannot play” Rendon.

Prov, i hear ya. I really don’t believe this paranormal stuff but we’ve been dealing with bizarre occurences since the 60s man…
I won’t get into it because I was once accused of dragging us back through the entire Angels history on this site.
Deaths, freak accidents, injuries, epic collapses (1982, 1986).
I mean on the third pitch while playing defense in his first game for the Angels, Mo Vaughn
fell into the dugout and destroyed his ankle.
Kendrys? We havn’t been good since…
I could go on and on.
Well, ok, some good luck now and then, like when the whole team didn’t go down in the bus crash or when they won it all in 2002

@MLB at the time of signing there was nothing indicative of Rendon being injury prone. In his 6 full seasons to that point he had only missed significant time in obe of them. Also was coming off 3 straight great seasons and a pretty good season the season prior to them. It’s easy to judge in hindsight, but there was nothing indicative at the time of what was to come.

I don’t know how many people remember this, but in the mid 70s, a witch took off the Angel curse, and the team started winning. Players had some pretty disrespectful quotes.

They started losing again and the Witch said she put the curse back on.

I believe it was just a coincidence, but what do I know.

Not baseball decisions I believe he’ll put the team up for sale again all winter long the baseball media will rip him for not extending Ohtani contract I can’t wait till Moreno exits Anaheim

The brown suspension is really stupid. He’s not my favorite announcer but the reason to suspend makes no sense. For citing a stat about how we struggled against the rays the past 3 years but not this year? That’s not even a knock. It’s an org that’s finally getting to where we want to be.

Hopefully Angelos realizes that now and doesn’t do any of that nonsense. He’s let Elias do all the right things for the org thus far. Just let that roll and make the capital investments necessary. All he has to do.

I got in a huge fight with a friend of mine saying most broadcasters are joes.

They are paid to publicize and sell the team. They are not in the business of reporting.

Broadcasters are not reporters so they should not be reporting anything. They are paid by the team to convey the action of the game to fans. I could understand why any owner would b upset if broadcasters were trashing or putting down a team.

That said in Brown’s case, I don’t think he was really trashing the team. He was giving statistics that are fact.

This happens to every team, every winter. Most writers know little about baseball, and if the team they cover signs a big name, they celebrate. And if the team allows a player to walk, it is the end of the world.

Check it out. Almost every team that they say “won the off-season”, it is virtually certain that they simply made big, and usually poor signings.

My favorite was when TO was trading half its farm for a 38 year old knuckleballer, and then traded for the back-loaded contracts of Reyes, Johnson & Buehrle. Two terrible trades, but to listen to the writers, you’d have thought just won the WS.

His exit velo and hard hit% have been trending down for years and are the worst of his career this year. His LD% is low. and GB% is up. The top-line production looks good (939 OPS) but I’m very leery of his underlying metrics — it doesn’t scream out that he “remembered” how to hit again.

More money is wasted by GM signing guys with a good walk year, than by any other means. Looking at players thru just the right lens can make them look good, but one usually has to ignore some of the uglier stats to get there.

flaming – I am leery of Bellinger as well. He’s always been very athletic but he fell in love with hitting home runs in LA and his vicious cut at the ball in all counts came back to haunt him for years. Observing him as a Cub, it seems like as the year progresses he is regressing back to his old LA ways which could lead once again to prolonged failure at the plate.

As an observer over the years he seems a bit fragile for the style of defense he plays. It reminds me of a young Harper who had to learn control when going after fly balls. Hitting the wall at full speed always leads to the wall winning the battle. Bellinger was a steal in 2023 and will be an albatross contract waiting to happen in 2024.

The thing with Bellinger and I know he’s having a comeback type year, but the dude has always hit well at Wrigley. This was a trade that was going to set him up well. Not a ton of pressure in Chicago, a park he can hit nukes in and a line up that fit him well.

I would be very curious as well…though we will likely never know. The Angels picked a clear buying lane at the trade deadline. Unfortunately for Angel fans, it appears to be backfiring. I think their plan was to hope to stay near contention until when Trout was able to return, but the last week was disastrous. What the team could look like if Trout was able to stay healthy consistently. One thing is certain, Ohtani is a must see art and I look forward to the offseason rumors regarding his 2024 and beyond destination.

What draft picks? Neto has a bad back. Do you think that is going away? Bachman was not only the highest pick this century, he might have been the worst. As far as Schanuel, it’s always nice to add a no power firstbaseman to the lineup…not.

I don’t think Eppler was a good GM, But,mwhen all is said and done, I bet his picks have a higher WAR than Minasian.

The other trades were low, minor-league trades, but getting back to prospects, there’s not many prospects in Salt Lake City, but in the lower minor leagues, we’ve got some talent in lower A ball and AA ball I have been looking all season at what we have in the lower minor leagues a little better than what you think I’m not saying we’re loaded now talking about Moe‘s Tavern, there’s a phone call for IP freely is their a IP freely

As far as i know Neto got hurt crashing into the catcher face first which arched his back backwards about a month ago.
1st game back, he got slammed to the ground by Olson of the Braves while running up the 1st base line and went back out next day.
          I don’t think this was pre-existing.
Of course with the angels we don’t know how serious this injury is.
And yes Halo, Backs don’t heal…
In the 1900s, I got got hit head on by a drunk driver (who died in the accident) when i was 19. I should have been in a wheel chair since but refuse and push myself thru pain every day. Not fun.

Halo, one one hand you say Minasian stinks and on the other, you say he blew up the Angels minor league system. If Minasian blew up the minor league system, it’s because he built it up in the 3+ short years he’s been with the Angels. The Angels minor league system was abysmal before his arrival. Minasian can build it up again via trades, drafts and international signings. And before you site the Angels minor league rankings, think how good it would be if Minasian had the luxury of keeping his young players in the minors – Silseth, O’hoppe, Neto, Joyce, Bachman, etc.

I look at him just about everyday. One HR in about 70 ABs?

Remember when I talked about Moniak’s 30+ K rate and 10 to 1 K to walk rate saying it’s going to be almost impossible for that profile to be a good MLB hitter.

Well, unless Shanuel actually hits extra base hits, it will be almost impossible for him to be a plus major league firstbaseman.

Unless something changes, he doesn’t have a high ceiling.

          =======================
I’m not sure why he is even in the pros. He had an awful 59/45 K/W in AA, and no AAA experience. The 14/11 MLB K/W should come as no surprise.

I think just about every Angel fan knew he was being fast tracked.

I’m very interested in watching him hit.

Neto was playing college baseball last year. Hes only 21 years old. He’s already in the major leagues when he’s in the lineup he’s producing Beckman will never be in the rotation because of his back problems, but he’s got nasty stuff. I’d be happy if he could just stay in the bullpen. schanuel that’s a quick judgment. The guys already in AA system hitting for an average give the guy a chance. So has body to fill out. Get stronger Shouldn’t take him very long to be in the angel lineup.

In my lineup, I’d rather have all nine players that takes their walks know their strike zone hits for an a higher,, average then hitting dingers pass, the baton, watch the merry go round

Neto has a bad back at 22. You think that’s going away? Bachman stinks….period. Schaneul has 3 extra base hits in 63 appearances. He’s a firstbaseman with no power. At pick number 11 his ceiling is very low.

You’re a lot better than what we have now. 🙂

Drafting is not anymore important than foreign signings and we have suck at both for a long time.

It’s a four prong fork. Manager, GM, Scouting, and owner. We are below average on all four. I’d love all four prongs to change.

What are they going to do with Rendon when/if he comes back?
Moustakas has been everything we hoped Rendon would be.
No way i want to see Tony at 3rd or 1st or at all on the field.

Rendón is dead weight on the Angels roster. Moustakas is more productive player than Anthony Rendón Anthony will never see glory days again me personally, designate for assignment. stick a fork he’s done. But the Angels will start him at third base if he’s not hurt during spring training

Buyer beware, I would not give Cody Bellinger a longterm contract. Since free agency, ever notice how much a player puts out so they can get that big time contract? Whoever signs Bellinger will get what the Dodgers got his last two years in LA.

His swing isn’t made to last multiple seasons. One little thing off he is a terrible hitter. When he had the juiced ball and knew what pitch was coming he was able to compensate – now that the league cleaned that all up he’s a streaky hitter. I’d be furious if my team gave him a fat contract.

The Angels should get no credit for “going for it.” Total misread. The urgency the Angels felt this trade deadline was about three years too late. Here’s hoping Ohtani joins a legitimate contender next year.

As long as the back door hits Arte Moreno on the way out the door, exits, Anaheim, i’ll be jumping up, down doing cartwheels and jumping jacks Arte Moreno has been a cancer in the angels organization for eight years. What little success he had riding Disney’s coattails when he first bought the team. Moreno refuses to build a team from the farm system. Look at the Houston Astros 10 years ago losing record getting high draft choices. Look at the Baltimore orioles now losing record getting high draft choices. Moreno doesn’t have a baseball IQ Marino made all his money in marketing he has no clue about baseball

Arte spends money, doesn’t bring in cheaters, would never allow the cheating in the clubhouse that has gone on with the Yankees, Red Sox and Astros, and only spends the money on high character players.

          He’s hardly a horrible owner.

The Angels need bring in a manager, scouting and development department and manager that are good.

Arte needs to hire someone who can do that. If he does, they can win with Arte, they can’t win with those other three pieces in place.

When’s the last time the Angels had an experience GM? Around 1999 when Disney hired Bill Stoneman who then hired Mike Scioscia who wins the World Series under Disney ownership, then sells the team to Moreno who hires a no experience GM, Tony Riggins loser Moreno hires another no experience GM Jerry DiPoto loser Moreno hires another no experience GM, Billy Eppler loser Arte Moreno spends all this money on Vernon Wells, Josh Hamilton, Albert Pujols, but he’s too cheap to to hire an experience general manager too cheap to spend money on top scouts, spending money on scouting an player, development Moreno cuts a lot of corners in scouting and player development Moreno is a lousy owner. Moreno only knows about marketing. As long as he gets butts in the seat, he’s happy and Moreno has no clue how to run a baseball team or spend the money in areas like scouting player development

Things were not looking good for him at one point.
        Somehow he got off….so far.
Once basically cleared, he decided to keep the team.

Arte should sell at least partially to a Japanese conglomerate who would assume control.
The Angel brand is huge in Japan solely because of Shohei.
        CAPITALIZE OLD MAN!!!
There is a lot of land to work with on that cursed parking lot in Anaheim.
They could Really develop this into something great. Another entertainment center 2 miles from Disneyland? New York style apartment buildings going up everywhere around the stadium. Going to be a lot of folks within walking distance soon too.
But I’d still rather see A new ocean front stadium in my old hometown – Long Beach…

Halo11, Like Stoneman a lot, but let’s be real. The Angels hitting won them the 2002 year. Every regular hitter in July hitting over .300 was it? They came back sooooo many times, that makes the BP even better. Screw a blow save, they’d just get the lead back.

What made the Pen so great that year was luck boxing in with K-Rod, with a late August call up. No question without him they don’t win it all. But kinda lucky on the Angels and Stoneman front. But at the end of it all, the Angels hitting was the #1 reason they won it all.

You obsess over the Pen, you want it good for sure. But give me Great hitting and starting pitching first and foremost.
