    Willy Adames
1:25 How much do you think I get per year this offseason? 15mm per?
    Steve Adams
1:27 Way more. He’s a 29-year-old shortstop with power, a plus glove, beloved makeup, etc. He’s got all the ingredients that Baez/Story/Swanson had when they were going into free agency and signed for 144, 144 and 177, respectively. He’s an easy $100MM+ contract for me, and I’d take the over on 150.

    – – – –

    Don’t disagree with the answer.

But let’s look at what Baez, Story, and Swanson have produced for that amount of money. Add in that they have time left on contracts and don’t seem to be getting any better

The issue is: Are MLB FO’s waking up to the fact that at some point they can get more bang for the buck going with a solid SS – or even a platoon – that plays the defensive position well and so what if they don’t hit a lot. They can get offense elsewhere. Most smaller market teams are already there in that thinking.

I’ve enjoyed watching Adames play back when he was with the Rays even before he flowered in Milwaukee. I do think he’ll get a big contract – probably from a large market team. The Dodgers are the obvious destination…although his “leadership influence” is going to dwarfed by the presence of Othani, Betts, Freeman, and Will Smith. They’ll do what they do.

He surely would fit in with the Braves.

      That issue is their budget.

Sometimes I wonder if they actually watch any baseball games or any of the players they write about. It seems sometimes they just live on statcast and other analytical websites.

Bauer isn’t a story because no one is signing him. Same with Puig.

They cover CBA issues, the A’s, and other teams seeking public funding all the time.

The folks here are smart. Great content BUT they do tread lightly on some subjects and I can’t blame them. Remember, we are not the customer, MLB is. MLB pays the freight here. In otherwords, “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”.

Most clear cut example of this is zero coverage on the current face of the game, Ohtani. Why? Us minions, regargless

      Oops. Cut myself off.

Us minions, regardless of Ohtani storyline, will go right to the ten ton elephant in the room. IE. millions of his dollars ended up in the account of an illegal gambling operation. These guys are smart. Don’t bring yourself negative attention to the folks that pay the rent. MLB.

Conspiracy theorist. It’s a thriving industry these days

MLB doesn’t fund MLBTR, and I’m sure they have nothing to say about the content.

Ohtani is amazing, but he’s not involved in any trade rumors, so what should they say about him?

“Just as an example, questions about Bauer, Puig, MLB vs MLBPA, manfred vs boras, roster size, expansion, the A’s crooked owner, teams holding fan bases ransom for public funds or anything important financially are often ignored.”

      Crypto Nerd;

I’ve had issues with MLBTR. They are what they are. What they do they do extremely well, and they have no competition in the marketplace – which is why I come here.

MLBTR is pretty much about roster changes and salaries which in turn often dictate roster changes. They uses public statistics to try to find benchmarks – although there are so many different statistics available that it’s easy to paint whatever picture the writer wants to.
      –
As for your point, all you’re bringing up is controversy. People like me come here for baseball. The issues you’re bringing up are best covered on talk radio where the hosts can be smart aleck’s, say provocative things, take either the side of a) six or b) half a dozen and talk for hours as callers jump right in taking one side or the other.
      –
I’ll address your first issue which I wrote a post about the other day, but no one cares: Bauer…..

MLB has gone to great expense to market itself not just to males, but to females and families as well…..which means all human beings in the world that can go to a ballpark or watch MLB games on a media device. Now, while you’re a tough demanding guy that sees things one way, there are a lot of females’ and people in families that see things another. In short – any team that signs Bauer and puts him out on the field has just alienated a large portion of their fanbase. That franchise is going to lose a tremendous percentage of their revenue – and I’m not just talking about ticket prices.

MLB goes to great lengths (as do all the professional sports leagues) to make players aware of how they’re perceived by the public; and that there are going to be ramifications for their actions – good and bad. It’s not a matter of “The Law”. It’s a mater of how they act, comport themselves, and who they hang with. Bauer decided to do it his way.
      –
To add – lots of people here hate Scott Boras. But they ignore the fact that of the thousands of players he’s represented over the decades, only a few have had any sort of controversy, and that’s usually injury related. He and his organization market their players as professionals and expect them to conduct themes as such. They provide support (physical and mental) and keep tabs on them, Most other agents do the same, few as well.
      –
In closing – following baseball should primarily be about following the game being played on the field. If you want to talk about the issues you brought up there must be dozens of sites on the Internet as well as talk radio/tv.

@Samuel Are you implying that female baseball fans aren’t smart enough to know a phony accusation when they see one?

The saying “conspiracy theorist” took off after the President Kennedy assassination. Why? Because someone with a different take on a subject that has logic behind it frightens those folks that want you to follow their narrative.

Big fan of MLBTR. Grateful that it is okay to express a differing view on a subject without being censored and to have cordial back n forth with fellow posters that have a differing view than mine. Just like we’re doing here. Great stuff.

      Jeff,

What makes you think “MLB pays the freight here?”
