Brewers Trade Freddy Peralta, Tobias Myers To Mets

By Anthony Franco | January 21, 2026 at 8:48pm CDT

The Mets and Brewers are in agreement on a deal sending Freddy Peralta and a second pitcher to Queens for prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. Joel Sherman of The New York Post first reported that righty Tobias Myers is also heading to New York in the deal. Michael Marino reported this morning that the Brewers had offered Peralta for Williams and Sproat, while Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated first relayed tonight that talks between the two clubs had accelerated.

It’s the continuation of a monster week for the Mets. After losing out on Kyle Tucker, they’ve signed Bo Bichette and traded for Luis Robert Jr. and Peralta. Tonight’s move is arguably the biggest of the three, as Peralta gives them a legitimate #1 starter atop what had been a talented but volatile rotation. He’s coming off a career season that landed him fifth in NL Cy Young balloting.

Peralta set a career mark with 176 2/3 innings while managing a personal-best 2.70 earned run average. He punched out 28.2% of opponents behind a near-13% swinging strike rate while issuing walks at a 9.1% clip. Peralta’s underlying marks have been consistently strong over his five seasons as a full-time starter. He misses bats at a plus rate with solid command. He had been a little susceptible to the longball between 2023-24, which elevated his ERA slightly (3.77) over that span. A dip in homer rate was the biggest factor in last year’s career-best results, but estimators like FIP and SIERA feel he has been more or less the same pitcher five years running.

The 6’4″ righty challenges hitters with his fastball, a 94-95 MPH offering that plays up because of its plus spin and life at the top of the zone. He backs that up with a changeup that he’ll throw to hitters of either handedness and a pair of breaking balls (though he only really uses his slider against right-handed hitters). His willingness to attack hitters up in the zone with the fastball leads to a fly ball approach and the occasional home run trouble, but it’s a worthwhile tradeoff for the few baserunners he’ll allow. Opposing hitters have mustered a .210/.288/.367 batting line over the past three seasons.

Peralta also brings an excellent durability track record to stabilize a rotation that was light on established innings sources. He hasn’t required a single stint on the injured list in three years. He’s tied for fifth with 95 starts and ranks 15th with 516 innings over that stretch. Only Dylan Cease and Zack Wheeler have more strikeouts in that time. Peralta and Cease are the only pitchers to record 200+ strikeouts in each of the past three seasons. He battled some shoulder issues in 2021-22, including a lat strain that limited him to 18 appearances four years ago, but his recent health record has been clean.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns knows Peralta well from his time running baseball operations with Milwaukee. He’s probably the best starting pitcher who’ll get traded this offseason, so the Mets would surely have been involved even without that connection, but the familiarity only made him a more natural fit. Stearns also brought back closer Devin Williams on a three-year free agent contract as his biggest bullpen move of the winter.

The Stearns-led front office wisely locked Peralta up on an extension before his breakout. Peralta had been an unheralded amateur signee by the Mariners whom the Brewers acquired as one of three prospects in an Adam Lind trade when he was in rookie ball. He worked in a swing role with mixed results over his first two seasons. Milwaukee secured him on a $15.5MM guarantee with a pair of $8MM club options over the 2019-20 offseason. It almost immediately became one of the sport’s most team-friendly contracts.

Peralta is headed into the final season of that deal and playing on the second of those $8MM options. The Mets will happily pick up that salary and the associated $8.8MM luxury tax hit. RosterResource projects them for a $365MM competitive balance tax payroll. They ended last season with $347MM in CBT commitments and paid another $91.6MM in taxes. Peralta is much more affordable from a salary perspective than the Bichette and Robert acquisitions were, though he’s less than a year from a monster payday of his own. He’s on track to hit free agency before his age-31 season and could command the second-largest contract in the class after Tarik Skubal.

The Mets will presumably make an effort to keep him long term, but the main focus is on 2026. Peralta slots ahead of touted rookie Nolan McLean at the top of the staff. Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes, David Peterson and Kodai Senga are also penciled into what could be a six-man rotation — though the latter two have come up in trade rumors this offseason. Jonah Tong didn’t dominate the way McLean did after a late-season promotion, but he’s a top prospect who’ll be in the mix. They’re getting another touted arm, Christian Scott, back from elbow surgery.

Myers projects for a swing role but is likely to make some starts over the course of a 162-game season as well. The 27-year-old righty is more than a throw-in addition, as he has pitched well for Milwaukee over the past two years. Myers held a rotation spot for the majority of the ’24 season. He started 25 of 27 games as a rookie and posted an even 3.00 earned run average through 138 innings. He recorded a solid 22.3% strikeout rate while limiting his walks to a 6.3% clip.

An oblique strain sidelined Myers to open last season. The Brewers activated him in late April but optioned him to Triple-A after a handful of shaky appearances. Myers was up and down for the remainder of the season. He was mostly squeezed out of the rotation by Milwaukee’s bigger arms, but he pitched well in the second half and finished the year with a 3.55 ERA across 50 2/3 frames. He had similar numbers over 12 starts with Triple-A Nashville.

Myers works in the 93-94 MPH range with his fastball. He uses a cutter and slider as his breaking balls and tweaked his changeup to more of a splitter midway through last season. The pitch got good results in a small sample, as opponents hit .108 while swinging through it almost 40% of the time. That should give him a better offering against left-handed hitters after he struggled with southpaws as a rookie.

Myers has between one and two years of service time. He won’t reach arbitration for another two seasons and is under club control through 2030. He has a minor league option remaining, which gives the Mets flexibility to move him between MLB and Triple-A Syracuse.

The Brewers deserve credit for helping Myers develop into a serviceable back-end starter/swingman. He’d once been a reasonably well-regarded prospect — Cleveland regrettably traded Junior Caminero for him when the slugging infielder was in rookie ball — but he’d seemingly hit a wall in the upper minors. Milwaukee added him as a minor league free agent over the 2022-23 offseason, and he’s now a secondary but meaningful part of a trade that netted them a pair of top prospects.

Williams and Sproat each placed on the back half of Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects list, which was released this morning. BA had Williams as the slightly more highly regarded of the two, but they’re essentially within the same tier. Williams is a right-handed hitter whom the Mets took in the first round out of a Dallas-area high school in 2022. He’s on the shorter side at 5’7″ but has plus athleticism and an up-the-middle defensive profile. Scouts credit him with plus speed and a strong arm with more power than one might expect based on his size.

That athleticism was on display in the upper minors last season. Williams combined for 17 homers and 34 stolen bases while hitting .261/.363/.465 across 572 plate appearances. He looked no worse for wear after a right wrist surgery had cost him a good chunk of the ’24 season. Williams raked at a .281/.390/.477 clip in Double-A. He struggled after a second half promotion to Triple-A, where he hit .209 with a .285 on-base percentage across 34 games. That’s not a huge concern for a 21-year-old who would have been young for the level even if he’d spent the entire season in Double-A.

Williams is a patient hitter who has worked a lot of walks in the minors. Although big league pitchers will be better positioned to attack the smaller strike zone, he has the makings of a potential top-of-the-lineup spark plug. Williams has played mostly shortstop and has experience at second base and in center field. He’s likely to begin the season at Triple-A Nashville and could challenge Joey Ortiz or Garrett Mitchell/Blake Perkins for playing time at shortstop or center field midway through the season.

More to come.

Get off the Yankees sacks? You have bigger problems? And bigger fish to fry. You’re still coming in third place. Behind Philadelphia, and behind Atlanta. The mutts clubhouse is in shambles. That’s why your franchise player Pete Alonso, left the organization because he can’t put up with childless nonsense.

The funny thing about the Dodgers is that they hate trading their top prospects. In fact, they hang on to many of them too long and then wind up practically giving them away, which the front office gets away with because of free agency. So no, I don’t see them making a trade that would suck up all those minor league assets unless they got an absolutely ridiculous deal in place where they swindled the Tigers and got to keep the minor leaguers they’re hoarding.

At once the Dodgers front office is somehow deleting people’s posts, I don’t actually understand that comment at all.

The other thing I’ll say is that if the Blue Jays signed Tucker to a 10 year contract for a salary that would eliminate 90% of teams from competing with that contract nobody would be saying the Blue Jays are ruining baseball. It’s a dishonest argument based on bias and perspective or lack of.

Man, this was less than what I thought he would command, but such seems the case with nearly every pending-FA rental.

I may be wrong (I usually am), but I wish the Yanks had pushed harder to acquire him. He’s durable, effective, and could slot in as an awesome 3 or 4 in a stout pitching rotation.

As it is, the Mets obviously are not standing pat, and I don’t [think] one year of Peralta (especially at this cost) can be a whiff. Mets have pivoted away from the Tucker/Belli drama quite nicely, particularly since they lost some key production, so I could see why their fans are happy.

I mean, Bichette, Peralta, Robert as the main offseason moves is pretty decent for a pivoted retooling, imho. With that said, Mets are still are little bros, trying to be all cute and run the backpages….(sorry guys, but I still bleed Yankee blue, so I had to…lol).

It’s definitely a win-win I don’t think Jett would have reached his full potential in Queens. Milwaukee seems like a better ballpark for him to hit in anyways. Sproat could go either way #2 starter or a Nick Pivetta type where he’s serviceable but takes a couple years to figure it all out.

They’re the same age and Myers has been in the league for two years now with an era that’s been in the 3’s each year. With quite a few starts. I’d say he’s a bit more proven right now and perhaps safer. Sproat has had injuries in the past.

Im not losing any sleep over Sproat.
It looks like he’s still working on the stuff that he’s been working on for a while like he has super inconsistent pitch shapes and spin rates which is either the cause or result of inconsistent arm angles,

He doesn’t really have any out pitches. His sinker, fb and curve do not have good profiles. His slider was ok and his sweeper was great but if that’s all you have you’re not going to get MLB hitters out consistently.
Also he might get have poor stamina but it’s not clear because everything else is so erratic it’s hard to track clearly.
I think they’ve been over him for a while.

Fried was a top-5 in Cy voting, Cole’s out til May/June, Rodon isn’t gonna be ready for Opening Day, Schmidt is coming back from TJS sometime after the All-Star Break. You -might- get 55 starts combined from those 3 in 2026. Schlittler is good, sure. Gil’s walk and K rates both went the wrong way last year. Warren looks like a serviceable back of the rotation guy, Yarborough is a swingman who’s never really been a star, Weathers has never thrown more than 94.2 innings over 5 years in the bigs, Elmer is interesting but has all of one start above Double-A, and Hampton is another guy coming off TJS.

Mets have Peralta (top-5 in Cy voting last year), McLean (similar to Schlittler as guys with hot starts in the MLB but a short resume), Clay Homes & David Peterson (both healthy mid-rotation guys), Sean Manaea (similar to Gil in a rough, injury affected 2025 after a great 2024), Senga (flip a coin if he’s an ace or a bum), Myers (swingman with decent starting numbers), Jonah Tong (top-100 prospect who’s made the bigs already), Christian Scott (former top-100 prospect coming off TJS)

i’d say it’s pretty even but honestly health has me thinking the Mets have a better shot looking forward to 2026

Isn’t half that rotation old and/or injured? And tell me what statistical analysis you’ve done to put the Mets as barely 20? A full season of McLean and Peralta. And the rest of the pitchers in the rotation all have track records of being above average starting pitchers. But good luck with that.

three of their top 4 guys are starting the year on the IL. i guess it boils down to whether you’d want 80-90 starts out of Fried/Rodon/Cole/Schmidt or 110-115 starts out of McLean, Peralta, Manaea, and Holmes.

it’s a dumb cliche but sometimes the best ability truly is availability

Peralta is a good pick up but keys not gloss over the fact that Manaea had a ERA over 5 last year. Tong is a great prospect but had an ERA over 7 in his 8 starts last year and is unproven at the mlb level. Peterson had an ERA over 6 in the 2nd half allowing 26 runs in his last 16 innings spanning 5 starts. Holmes has only pitched to the 6th inning 9 times in 31 starts. I’m my trying to diss the Mets but after Peralta you guys are going to be highly reliant on Tong and McLean to be the real deal.

@Knicks tong will be going back to the minors for more seasoning. Holmes was a first year started I don’t think anybody expected him to pitch deep into games. Manaea didn’t have a ST and was injured so expect him to bounce back fully healthy this year. Peterson also had a sub 3 era in the first half last year, and a sub 3 era in 2024. It’s also a walk year for him so I expect him to be back to around a 3-3.50 era in 2026.

So if Tong is here to the minus why did you even mention him as part of the rotation? Holmes getting past the 5th inning isn’t “pitching deep”. The guy pitched to the 7th inning once. 7th to 9th is considered “deep”. zi couldn’t careless what Peyerson’s ERA was in the past, I was just pointing out what it was in the 2nd half. Dude, it’s not your fault. It’s ok to suggest your rotation has question marks, as do so many other teams. But DON’T piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining.

Tong was rushed a little bit IMO – he had two great starts, two disasters, and one that was -fine-. I’m happy that this trade kinda pushes him back to Triple-A to get a little more seasoning.

Holmes not going deep was two things – I think they weren’t gonna ride him super hard in his first year transitioning from the bullpen (he went above 95 pitches only 4 times in 31 starts) and Jeremy Hefner, their pitching coach last year, built a rotation of guys who only looked to get guys to chase. Once teams figured that out, Holmes started not going as far – his first 13 starts his walk rate was 7.7%; his last 20 appearances (18 GS) it jumped to 10.6%. Hoping that the new pitching coach brings a new philosophy that involves a little less nibbling.

Health is a valid concern. The fact that Freid, Rondon and Warren all finished the season hairy and pitched at least 311 starts make me hopeful they can be counted on. Rondon’s surgery didn’t sound too serious but obviously you never know how long his rehab will take. Gil and Weathers should be healthy. Schlittler will likely be on innings restrictions around 150-165 but most pitchers aren’t pitching past that anyway these days. The talent is there tho. If healthy Freid/Cole/Rondon/Gil/Warren/Weathers/Schlittler with an outside shot at Schmidt returning in September looks good on paper.

Senga, Peterson, and Manaea have track records. And Holmes was solid last year. Not to mention the Mets held onto Tong.

Manaea has 4 years with an era under 4, McLean rocked in the minors and majors last year anybody with eyes can see he’s legit. Senga despite what you say had a sub 1.50 era before he got injured. Holmes killed it his first year starting and should only improve. Peralta is a proven stud too. Yankees are just stagnant.

Manaea has had more than one good year. Senga fell apart in the second half after being injured, but was very good in the first half. He also had a track record of success in his only full season before last year. Holmes was good last year so I don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re just flat out making things up now I guess. And Peterson also has a track record of success. McLean was downright dominant last season, but yes, he needs to prove it over a whole season. And Peralta is a very solid starting pitcher. Again, isn’t half your rotation injured before the season has even started. Is that a good omen?

Learn about the players dude. Yes, Gil walks 4:9 IP but he doesn’t let them score as his ERA over the last two years is at 3.45. And no, he doesn’t allow a lot of homers. He was at 1:9 IP which was better than Peralta. His health was an issue and velocity dropped from 98 to 95. Hopefully he’ll be able to stay healthy next year. For some reason ppl want to throw him into deals like he’s a Peralta as opposed to a pitcher that threw 200 over 200 innings the lady two seasons with a 3.45 ERA pitching primarily in a hitter friendly park.

I agree although they only get one year of Peralta but Myers is under control for 5 more seasons which could prove interesting I think he has the upside of a mid rotation arm for them.

That’s what Cleveland thought when they dealt Junior Caminero for him.

Now there are three pitching-savvy organizations who have given up on Tobias Myers: Tampa, Cleveland, Milwaukee.

        That should tell you something.

Not gonna lie, losing Williams hurts. I was excited to see him be a stud at the plate and SS/CF in Citi Field for a long time. I get it; a trade has to work for both teams. At this point, I hope we work out a long-term deal with Peralta to make the cost more reasonable.

Usually won’t be better prospects traded. You don’t trade special prospects. Rare to trade a elite prospect. Hard to great prospects.

Who was traded this year worthy of getting better prospects? I can’t remember. Oviedo got similar talent. Rays for Lowe got similar level.

Crochet got the great level tier top 50 but not top 20. But he was better than Peralta and had an additional year. Burnes got similar level I’d say a lil less but he cost twice as much salary although still cheap. Seems this trade was reasonable par for course.

Yeah I think including Myers tipped it away, they should have included a Baty or Vientos, since they needed a 3b, on top of the prospects. Brewers helping out their pal Stearns on this.

Brewers have no need for a 3B. Farm is loaded with talent that is close to MLB ready and can shift to 3B if a season is had in 2027. Furthermore, Caleb Durbin was beyond solid there all year, both on offense and defense, especially after he started playing more everyday after May. Baby and Vientos would be salary adds. Durbin is still in team controlled years. No need to add Baty or Vientos when salary creates a net negative based on Durbin’s on the field results.

Baty would have been a really interesting add (glad the Mets didn’t give him up though) – he’s got a swing that works well for their park (baseball savant has him with more HRs if he was a Brewer than a Met in 2025) and you could’ve slid Durbin to 2B, Brice to SS, and Baty to 3B and make Joey Ortiz the utility guy/defensive replacement. Would slightly downgrade the defense but I think the offense would be upgraded enough to make it a net positive for them.

Of course I notice their business model. I don’t think it’s a good one since 1). there is no guarantee what you get will turn out bette than what you already have, and 2). championships are often won by upper talent stars.

This is why the Brewers or the Rays, or whoever thinks this business model is something more than it is, will never win the WS. You can’t face the best teams of the year with a well-platooned squad of league replacement players.

Even if your faith in these prospects is correct and they succeed when so many prospects fail so what. Stearns knows how to build a farm system. Mets can spend 400 million. If they needed a solid everyday player in cf they just offload some garbage spare parts for Robert. Need a 2b just give Polanco 2m. Why keep a prospect mid rotation starter when they can trade for a #1. Goals the playoffs world series. They want sure thing horses. Not potential possibly. Stearns with Mets resources can find a Williams Sprout and every draft. And when he finds better they will keep them.

Probably a bit of everywhere. If he’s hitting well he can play every day at a different position like Brendan Donovan does. Scooting over to 3B from SS/2B isn’t unheard of, nor is CF to LF/RF all that crazy either. I look at the Brewers depth chart on fangraphs and CF/LF are fairly soft spots on the projections.

Not rocket science but we all don’t really know what the true potential of our so called high potential prospects is. Proven players that have a record of big show performance are so much more valuable. Just ask the crew from Guggenheim.

Brewers get a big return. Mets get a 1 year ace that’s a top 15 starting pitcher in MLB, if not fringe top 10 potential (finished 5th in Cy Young). Over 200ks for 3 straight seasons. Mets preserve Benge, Tong and McLean…I guess part of having prospects is trade capital

Mets got a reliever emergency starter as well with lots of years. Win win fair trade but I think Mets won more.

It does feel like the disparity between the big market and small market teams is at an all time high. This whole offseason the rumors have been monopolized by the Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Jays, Red Sox, and Yankees. Outside of the Astros getting Imai and the Cubs signing Bregman, it’s been a very underwhelming offseason. But what amazes me about it is that while some of these teams did spend their way there (Tucker, Bichette, Schwarber, Bellinger), most of these have been trades. Literally any team could have been in on Peralta with his price tag, and yet it’s the Mets getting it done. I’m not frustrated at the league. I wish my team would do something. I wish the AL Central would do something. I wish the fans in DC and Cincinnati and Tampa had something to cheer about. Lockout is imminent.

No, not every team could have gotten Peralta. He’s a rental, which means only if you can afford a $150m-ish extension offer (probably more) to him would you offer what the Mets did in terms of prospects. What the, I dunno, Padres or Guardians could have offered would have been nothing in comparison.

Sproat has some solid potential. Probably mid-rotation, very close to MLB ready, has a TOR mindset (sometimes wears his emotions on his sleeve, annoyed with himself when he makes mistakes; nothing negative, just very competitive).

I think you’ll really like Jett. Has positional versatility (up the middle; CF/2B/SS) and is a gamer. Solid overall hitter, good speed, surprising power from a smaller player. He should be ready in 2026.

Jett Williams has been our top position prospect that last few years. And our top overall prospect last year (before McLean busted out). Top prospect in a very good farm system. We have been waiting for his debut this year. You definitely got a baseball player! reminds me like a Dustin Pedoria type. He is small but he can play. Loves the game. Great hitter, fielder, very athletic, can steal bases. Is a 2nd baseman but his Athleticism can also play CF. He’s top 50 prospect I think as high as the 20s overall.
Sproat was our best pitching prospect until McLean just tore it up last year. He’s only behind him (Tong also very good). I think he can be a type 2 or 3 starter in the future. Again top 100 player. You did well for the future on this trade. I hate to give them up but you have to in order to get a pitcher like Peralta. But future is bright for them, I would be excited if I was a Brewers fan.

I’d say Sproat has potential to be a very solid number three starting pitcher. He was a really good prospect, but then struggled in the minor leagues, but then started pitching better and pitched decently for the Mets so that raised his standing. I would definitely think he can compete to be on the opening day roster. Williams is the better prospect of the two. Smallish guy, but looks like a real spark plug type player who can play different positions. Probably a second baseman, but maybe a centerfielder. Very good on base skills. Probably will be a very pesky player. I don’t know if he’ll be ready by opening day but definitely should be ready this season. And sooner than later.

Williams is over-hyped, We have way better hitting prospects that would have taken over Williams this year anyway. Williams looked decent at aaa but nothing special. You never know though, but with his height I wasn’t expecting much. Sproat though was already a favorite to watch. Just like the guy and he looks like he’ll figure it out, maybe with the right attitude he can become a top dog, although he’ll probably suffer playing in a smaller market.

People will naturally mention king in the Soto trade, but there is a graveyard of Yankee prospects that never pan out, including. Montero,Ruthoford,,Florial and many, many more. Is this just a case of a prospect being overhyped because he plays for a big market team? I mean, for example, the Reds have Duno and he should be getting a lot of hype but he really doesn’t.

Solid trade for both sides if it remains 2 for 2. Hopefully Mets will extend Peralta now. Williams became expendable with both the trade for Seiman and the rise of Ewing. Sproat is going to be a good player (hopefully the least of the 3). Mets keep the second tier of pitching prospects intact also. There are some solid pitchers a little over a year away. Big day for NYM. Have to give to get and MIL got some real potential good ones in this deal. But Peralta type was Mets key missing piece and it’s now been filled. Myers is solid and it’s great to see Stearns looking his best (unlike last trade deadline unfortunately)

Let’s just cut to the chase. Instead of FA, let’s just allow the big market teams to draft any player they want from the small market teams every year to fill their rosters. Kinda like they do for new franchises, except big market teams will tell the other franchises who they can’t protect.

Anybody else miss the competitiveness of MLB?

I miss the off-seasons when fans of more than four or five teams have something to talk and dream about.

Wow, that’s a fair trade, even for only one year of Peralta. Sproat and Williams are still only prospects with good potential. For the unhappy Met fans, think of Kelenic and how that trade was panned. I hope and think that Jett will do better, but you don’t know that yet.
It was reported that Peralta was willing to listen to an extension, and Cohen has got the $$ to make that happen. I don’t know Meyers, but based on the previous comments the opinions seem to be favorable.
And for all the Sterns haters and unhappy Yankee fans out there, he seems to have had a pretty good off season, and he’s obviously not done yet.

Reasonable. It feels like a slight overpay by the NYMs, but their rotation badly needed a #1. Neither Sproat not Jett are sure things, but fairly promising.

I thought Sproat would be a given in a trade for Peralta. Jett made me wince, but not a deal breaker. I like Myers potential too.

Hmm…..so is this the big thing we Mess fans were supposed to be so happy about after losing the most durable productive Met in the past (#)20 years, having the hardest working and most determined Met from the least populated state who grew up playing in the biggest city and was beloved by staff and fans, and the guy who I ALWAYS SAY LOUDLY SO OTHERS CAN HEAR ME AT THE GAMES WHO’S THE METS CLOSEST THING TO DEREK JETER’S BASEBALL INTELLIGENCE OUT ON THE FIELD PLAYING DEFENSE because he’s always been in the right place and always backing up when he’s supposed to??? Seriously not kidding about that and usually when I say that he makes a play to back me up in the stands!
Because so far all I get out of this offseason is a sore throat and carpal tunnel!!
    BOOOOOOOOO STEARNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Mets…err Mess…is NOT the Brewers! Wasn’t that obvious with those other former-Brewers player experiments?
I’m starting to wonder if Stearns is really for real or if he just fell into something with the Brewers. I heard Stearns used to actually be a Mets fan!?!? Right??!!!? So how the _____ did all this happen? I want an explanation. If both Stearns and Uncle Steve are truly Mets fans, they’d think the same as I do from the years and years of history repeating itself.
“Wants to build a dynasty” Yeah DUDE EVERYBODY WANTS THAT!! But you are failing miserably!!!!!
Proven Mets producers need to remain on the team. It’s not easy to play for the Mets. They let PETE leave us!! PETE was supposed to be OUR AARON JUDGE putting up lifetime Mets home run records, getting his number retired, and being the most productive, positive, and wanna-win Met of ALL TIME!! PETE always wanted to play for the Mets forever, so whaaa happened? He’s a first baseman. When he’s 40 years old he’ll still be able to mash 25-30 HR and drive in at least 95 RBI because of how durable he is. And he’s so positive!!! How do you let that go?
I thought that’s what we were supposed to be getting with Uncle Steve! You’re a Mets fan, DUDE! Whaaa? Why? What is going on? Even if you get Skubal whoopee. Do something useful and trade Lindor.

Judging from the reactions here, both fanbases think they got fleeced.

So, it must be a fair deal.

So much for the Mets being a trade partner for Skubal. Sproat and Williams would certainly been part of a deal with the Tigers.

How did we get less than what we got for Corbin and on top of that had to throw in a pitcher on top of that

Well first, Corbin Burnes was even better than Freddy and was also a Cy Young winner. And second, it seems Joey Ortiz and DL Hall then could be comparable in value to Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat now. I’d hardly say the Brewers got less than they did in the Burnes trade.

Freddy also had over a 3.50 era over the prior 3 seasons. Peralta is fantastic, and he had a career year. But he’s not Corbin Burnes

Also had a better final year than Corbin makes half of what Corbin did got a draft pick in the burnes trade too. And on top of that didn’t have to give up a guy with five years who can easily bounce back in myers

The brewers did well. Jett Williams and Brandon sproat can both be starters on winning brewers teams for years to come. Mets gave up more than they would like and now they must sign Peralta and not lose him to free agency otherwise it’s a huge loss. Jett Williams and sproat are Maor league ready talents. Steve cohen is not giving up to the Dodgers yet.

I agree with everything you said. The Brewers definitely won that trade (on the surface). I think the Mets will regret trading Jett.

Eh, unless the Mets offer some crazy contract (Which now that I think about it is not out of the realm of possibility) my guess is Peralta’s agents are telling him to wait to sign after Skubal. At that point he’s everyone’s plan B and the market price will be set.

Doesn’t mean he won’t be a Met beyond 2026. But I wouldn’t bet on that resolution for another year.

Great trade for the Mets as long as Jett doesn’t turn into the next PCA they gave away for a rental.

I will say, its good to see the mets making moves (though my orioles grabbed Alonso). Its a gamble for sure, but adding Bichette and Peralta among others is pretty solid. Always love to see teams go for it.

The best part about this is, that a trade between the Mets and Brewers has so many comments about the Dodgers. Living rent free in so many heads! Dodgers need to find a way to charge rent on y’all. Just think of how many more F.A.s they could sign. Need to run this by the front office.
