In the ’19 World Series, several Nats said that Bregman helped turn the tide against the Astros by trying to one-up the Nats on a homer trot, etc. It sparked the Nats to take it to the Astros. I think Trea Turner was the most outspoken.
There was a lot of derision of Bregman and his game coming from the Nats’ organization at that point
Now I know that Money Talks and All Can Be Forgiven, but Bregman–in addition to his apparent decline–carried a lot of negative baggage in DC.
Regarding Torey Lovullo, I believe he and his coaches game plan lineups and bullpen usage with the help of Mike Hazen’s baseball operations/analytics team. Imo, they do a fine job with in-game strategy. Also, the time to fire Lovullo, if it was going to happen, was after the 110 loss season, not after leading the Dbacks to the WS and playoffs in consecutive years.
