Steve’s accidental wordplay game was on-point in this one.
Meow – Which part was that? I may have missed it because I skip over the ads.
One thing I did catch, Darragh said the Rays are being sold for $1.7 million …. if I had known the price had dropped that much, I would have bought them myself!!!
“Ray of hope” for the Rays and “Phillies Achilles heel” 😆
Meow – The debate between Abreu or Duran is becoming as intense as Ginger or Mary Ann, Betty or Veronica, Jordan or LeBron, drown or burn, Roger Moore or Sean Connery, Pacino or DeNiro, tastes great or less filling.
Personally I’d choose Abreu to stay, but it’s a very tough call. ,
I don’t know that I’m in favor of moving either right now. I think on paper Duran makes the most sense but he also feels like one of the core “heart of the team” guys in the clubhouse and I love his hustle. Unless they get really blown away by a trade return I say just keep the surplus and maybe find ways to work them all in by getting Rafaela and/or Duran some work at 2B or something.
Meow – Yeah but in a few weeks Bregman is supposed to play every day again. Him, Story and Mayer are not gonna get benched for significantly weaker defensive players.
Speaking of Bregman, apparently Cora said the plan is to play him 2 out of every 3 games while not having him play on consecutive days …. I’d like to see how that’s possible, because its not!
Cora consulted the trash can
They are right there, lost Dobbins, need a SP badly. One of those two need to go and should be (as an outside observer) Duran because I feel like he’s a declining asset.
Cleaver – What do you think about trading for Priester (3.55 ERA) or Newcomb (3.50 ERA)?
As for Duran, I think it’s premature to call it a decline after just half a season. Surely all the trade rumors have impacted his performance as well. I wouldn’t give up on him just yet.
It’s a really tough schedule thru August 24th, in fact they have the hardest second half schedule in MLB. It’s make or break time.
Hopefully Bregman gets hot and they can trade him. He plans on opting out and he’s already overpaid so they have to trade him or get nothing..
It makes no sense for Boston to keep 4-5 starting caliber outfielders. The Red Sox are riding a 10 game streak but the starting pitching needs help, and every team needs relievers. Makes no sense to have capable young outfielders playing only occasionally.
They can wait out the sellers who want to wait it out. Unless, things fall apart sooner.
They either have 4 or 5, not 4-5. It’s not really a bad thing. Pitching? There’s possibly help on the way. They’re working with Harrison. Houck can be in the bullpen just to soak up innings. I don’t think they have to make a trade.
I fully expect a very minor love by Dumbrowski
Wow. The Cease trade rumors are still out there? I see no sensible justification for a playoff contender with an already thinned rotation due to injuries, to trade away one of its few healthy SPs?
Especially with a GM who is allergic to selling at the deadline.
Winning is the leading cause of allergies
