Cold open was hilarious today, per usual.
I thought maybe I was going too far with this one, so I’m glad it landed with at least one person.
Jeffers for Campuasano framework for a trade. Like to hear other’s opinions.
I think the assumption that SD doesnt like Campusano as a ML catcher is flawed. They went with a defense oriented backstop tandem last year and let Campusano get more seasoning in AAA. The guy isnt old for a catcher and pairs well with Freddy.
I also think the assumption made in the conversation that Fermin isn’t a legitimate starting catcher, and that the Padres should be searching for one, is also flawed. He was a backup in KC only because they had an AS catcher there. While he doesn’t hit for a ton of power, in 880 major league ABs he has a 6.4 WAR, battering ave of 264 with a low K rate, and most importantly plays great defense. It’s more likely that the Padres feel set at C for 2026, with Fermin getting most of the starts, and Campy as backup. If they don’t go with Campusano as a C, he now has experience at 1B and could serve as a 1B/DH with pop.
This is great to hear! Thanks so much!
