The Angels announced they’ve re-signed righty Shaun Anderson to a minor league contract. He elected free agency on Tuesday after being outrighted off the big league roster.
Anderson and the Angels clearly have a strong relationship. This is the sixth minor league deal upon which they’ve agreed over the last two seasons. The Halos have called him up a few times when they need a long reliever. He’s usually designated for assignment a few days later when they bring up a new fresh arm. Anderson clears waivers, elects free agency, then returns on a new non-roster deal.
The 31-year-old got a little longer run this month. Anderson was on the MLB roster between March 29 and April 26. He made nine appearances and allowed 13 runs (11 earned) over 16 2/3 innings. He punched out 12, issued eight walks, and surrendered a trio of homers. Anderson is up to 28 MLB frames in a Halos uniform with a 7.71 ERA since the start of 2025.
The Florida product spent the majority of last season at Triple-A Salt Lake. He worked out of the rotation and allowed just over six earned runs per nine through 24 appearances. He’ll probably stay stretched out as a starter with the Bees.

It’s good work if you can get it.
why?why why why why why why why why why
Because Angels.
@kellin. The roach that you can’t get rid of.
It is not like the Angels have better options that make Anderson expendable. I would love for that to be the case, but sadly it’s not.
Because Perry Minasian is the worst GM in baseball.
I am 100% convinced Anderson has questionable pictures of Perry doing questionable things with questionable people.
Him and Lucchesi will be yo-yoed up and down the roster all year
Decent change up at times but horrible fastball and struggles to limit hard contact. Hopefully he could eat some innings.
Hopefully, he’ll never be called up again.
Decent changeup but poor fastball and spotty location. Hopefully he can eat some innings.
Perry
I went and checked you have DFA’ed this guy FIVE times.
Is he blackmailing you? Do you owe him money?? What is he holding over your head?
This guy has no business being on a major league mound.
Why do you keep bringing him back???
You know I always thought you were a bad gm. Now I’m to the point to where I almost feel sorry for you. It must suck being this incompetent.
@soccer wef. F perry.✅️
I love mullets.✅️
Sing crappy players, ✅️
And sing it to the skies ✅️
May the crapp show continue.🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦
Like Ive said, this relationship is the most bizarre artifact of Perry’s tenure. Wonder if theyve kissed.
I just did the research and this is likely the record for DFAs between a player and GM. Congrats Angels and angels fans on making history.
We just need Luis Garcia back. Already have Strickland.
Perry just can’t quit that trio.
At least Garcia and Strickland have proven to be competent relievers for the Angels. But Anderson is up there (or down there) for being the worst reliever, that I can think of, in the past 40 years of Angels baseball.
It’s not like he’s really blocked at the MLB level. He will pitch for the big club again this season.
That’s it. The lack of depth is shocking even after all of Perry’s tenure.
Perry keeps throwing mud against the wall hoping some of it sticks.
This is why it never sticks.
Oh well, he won’t be here next year.
At least he’s not wasting spaghetti.
Congrats to Mr. Anderson who apparently still has a good paying job. Of interest, if his talent and effectiveness is the scale of measurement for the talent that’s in the system, which it appears it is because there haven’t been any better or clear options, this is in stark contrast to Moreno’s statement about the pitching being better this year. A couple of starters have improved but I can’t remember the last time that I’ve seen the bullpen look this bad. It’s unfortunate too because with a performing bullpen this team would be outperforming expectations. But here we are. Welcome back Mr. Anderson.
@oldhalo. Might’ve been improved with Joyce, yates, and Stephenson. Just didn’t work out that way. Perry just bets on the wrong horses, and keeps the ones that need to be put to rest. He loved saurez, heck he still might be on the team they kept bringing him back like Anderson.
Rex, It would have, no question, but the drafts have been awful and there are no arms capable of coming up and providing even mediocre help.
And Minasian has wasted both capital and draft capital trying to build a pen. This can be laid at Minasian’s feet. Arte is a terrible owner, Minasian is a terrible GM. It’s a disastrous combination.
That’s the issue: the drafts.
The common refrain for pitchers Perry drafts is “reliever risk.” From Bachman to Johnson to Cortez to Shores he drafts starters who profile better as relievers and outside of Bachman none of them have panned out.
60 arms drafted and counting. He has Bachman and Silseth to show for it. Kochanowicz, Soriano, and Detmers are not his.
In 5 years of international signings he has Urena and Fermin. That’s it.
You’d think a haul of 80-100 pitchers would be capable of producing better options than Shaun Anderson, Joey Lucchessi, and Jordan Romano. But, no, not here.
Bremmer, unless he develops off speed pitches, look like an RP. He has two pitches.
Dana is not a starter. Klassen is built for the pen.
Anyway. They are not going to make any moves before it’s too late, because after one month, it’s already too late.
@Halo11Fan Bremner has a great off speed pitch in his change up. He does need to develop a breaking pitch. He does have above average spin rates. Nothing great, but it is above average. It is just a matter of throwing it with consistency.
Right now, he is over powering those in high A. I am sure it will only be a few starts before he is promoted to double A, so we can see how he does against hitters that aren’t completely over matched.
What makes you say he has great off-Speed stuff? . I heard on CBS he has two pitches, and he needs to develop off-speed stuff.
Fastball, change-up. It doesn’t mean these guys are right, but that’s what they said.
Just to add. Fangraphs doesn’t even mention his curveball, and says he needs to develop his slider. Mentions he has a great change up and good fastball.
So I now have two sources.
Yes, he has a great change up, which is an off speed pitch. It’s his best pitch and was the best in this draft class. His fastball is also a quality pitch.
He doesn’t have a quality breaking pitch. He is working on a slider, but it is still a work in progress. He will need a breaking pitch if he wants any chance to succeed at the major league level.
It’s an off-speed pitch, but it’s not a curveball or slider and I mentioned the change up in my first post as well as a similar two pitch pitcher who closes out games for the Mets.
He’s a work in progress and needs to develop another pitch. Work in progress with limited upside defines all of Minasian’s first round picks.
Perry owes Anderson from another lifetime. What else could it be.
Love seeing trout walk all the time.
Because OC Mom’s love his hair.
I first I thought I saw the name of Tim Anderson, then I saw up close it was not the infielder.
