Dee Gordon Among Players Moving To Rep 1 Agency

By Steve Adams | February 22, 2018 at 5:14pm CDT

Mariners center fielder Dee Gordon is among the notable players that will be joining Rep 1 Baseball, the agency announced today. Veteran agent Nate Heisler has joined the Rep 1 ranks as a vice president, bringing with him an array of clients.

In addition to Gordon, the players going with Heisler to his new agency include major leaguers Liam Hendriks and Chase Whitley. Several prospects are coming along as well, includingJesus Luzardo and Jacob Pearson.

Gordon is obviously the most notable name on this list. He’s also under contract through at least 2020, pursuant to the extension he inked with the Marlins back in 2016. Now with the Mariners following a December swap, Gordon has been tasked this winter with moving from his accustomed middle infield role into center field in Seattle.

Hendriks is earning $1.9MM this year and will qualify for arbitration one final time at season’s end. Whitley, also a reliever, recently agreed to a $800K deal in his first trip through the arb process. Among the younger players, Luzardo has received top-100 leaguewide prospect billing.

Rep 1 Baseball already represents such prominent major leaguers as Edwin Encarnacion and Miguel Montero. Its new clients are reflected in MLBTR’s Agency Database.

An earlier version of this post indicated that Twins prospect Nick Gordon was also changing representation, as Rep 1 announced. A report from Jon Heyman of Fan Rag (via Twitter) now indicates that the younger Gordon will remain with the Beverly Hills Sports Council.

If Encarnacion averages 30 homers the next 5 years he’ll have 500 on his career, and that doesn’t seem like too much of stretch as long as he stays on the field. Does he get serious hall of fame consideration?

Can’t see him continuing that level of production that long.

I agree, I think he will start to digress, and quickly .

He’s defiantly a hall of famer but I agree that he does not have many more years of production left

So are you saying him being a Hall of Famer defies expectations?

Still don’t get why the Mariners are playing him in center. If the Dodgers moved him from SS because he couldn’t make the throw well, what’s he going to do in CF?

You can be a successful in Center without having a good arm.

run down fly balls and cut down extra bases on balls hit into the gaps.

It is also a different throwing motion. I could 1 hop a baseball from CF on a HS field to home pretty accurately but make a hard accurate throw from 3rd or SS was not in the cards. The other factor right now is he has a middle infield that is pretty good with Cano and Segura. If Seager is the cut off man he is not bad either. Arm strength isn’t a huge factor it is running down balls and cutting them off like said above. Seattle is going to have a very fast OF. If the bats can be good they will be a very good OF.

Conversely, I could throw frozen ropes from 3rd to first but could only manage marshmallows from the outfield. You’re totally correct in your throwing motion point.

The dynamics of throwing is interesting. Why can some throw 100 mph or throw a football 80 yards? Funny how the body works.

Check out youtube Dee Gordons bet with Matt Kemp and throwing. He has an arm. Moved to second because of his glove, I thought.

Whitley, Hendriks and the Gordon brothers were all previously with the Beverly Hills Sports Council. No word on Luzardo or Pearson tho.

Thank you WCR. I was wondering who the former agency was. I guess Steve Adams could not enlighten us and just wrote another half ass article

As much as I agree that they do a disservice to the readers for intentionally not providing the previous agent ever, Steve and the rest of the authors at MLBTR are top notch at what they do. Be thankful that it’s for free.
