Minor Moves: Rosales, Ahmed, Bianchi

By charliewilmoth | June 29, 2014 at 11:57am CDT

We’ll keep track of today’s minor moves here.

  • The Rangers have announced that they will purchase the contract of infielder Adam Rosales and optioned fellow infielder Luis Sardinas to the minors, where he’ll presumably have more regular playing time. The Rangers will need to make a 40-man roster move to make space for Rosales, who was hitting .276/.349/.434 in 307 plate appearances for Triple-A Round Rock.
  • The Diamondbacks announce that they have selected the contract of infielder Nick Ahmed. Fellow infielder Chris Owings will head to the 15-day DL with a shoulder strain, and the Diamondbacks will clear 40-man roster space for Ahmed by moving Eric Chavez to the 60-day DL. Ahmed, 24, was hitting .324/.390/.431 for Triple-A Reno, where he played shortstop and second base. He was originally drafted by the Braves, who traded him to Arizona in the Justin Upton / Chris Johnson / Martin Prado deal.
  • The Brewers have announced that they’ve selected the contract of infielder Jeff Bianchi from Triple-A Nashville, adding him to their 40-man and 25-man rosters. To clear space for him on the 25-man, they’ve optioned pitcher Alfredo Figaro to Nashville. Shortstop Jean Segura left yesterday’s game with leg cramps, which might be why the Brewers are adding another infielder. The Brewers outrighted Bianchi last month. He has a career .214/.249/.281 line in parts of three seasons, all with Milwaukee.

Brewers Outright Jeff Bianchi

By charliewilmoth | May 26, 2014 at 3:09pm CDT

MONDAY: The Brewers have announced that Bianchi has accepted his outright assignment. He will report to Triple-A Nashville.

SATURDAY: The Brewers have outrighted infielder Jeff Bianchi to Triple-A Nashville, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel tweets. It’s unclear whether Bianchi will accept his assignment.

Bianchi, 27, has hit .145/.172/.145 in 58 plate appearances while playing second, third and shortstop for the Brewers this season. He has a career batting line of .214/.249/.281 in 386 career plate appearances, most of them coming in 2013. He came up through the Royals system, but was claimed by the Cubs and then the Brewers in the 2011-2012 offseason.

Brewers Claim Jeff Bianchi

By Tim Dierkes | January 11, 2012 at 1:06pm CDT

The Brewers claimed infielder Jeff Bianchi off waivers from the Cubs, according to a press release.  The addition brings Milwaukee's 40-man roster count to 39 and opens a spot for new Chicago starter Paul Maholm.

Bianchi, 25, was drafted by the Royals in the second round in 2005.  He spent his entire career with their minor league teams, until the Cubs claimed him on waivers in December.  Bianchi hit .259/.320/.333 in 499 Double-A plate appearances last year, playing the middle infield positions.

Minor Moves: Bianchi, Threets, Gallagher, Atilano

By Mark Polishuk | December 9, 2011 at 3:15pm CDT

Here are some of the day's minor transactions…

  • The Cubs have acquired minor league infielder Jeff Bianchi on a waiver claim, the team announced.  Bianchi was designated for assignment by the Royals last week to make room for Jonathan Broxton on their 40-man roster.  Bianchi was a second-round pick for K.C. in the 2005 draft and has yet to reach the majors, though he missed close to two full seasons recovering from a torn labrum (2006) and reconstuctive elbow surgery (2010).
  • The Athletics have signed left-hander Erick Threets to a minor league deal, tweets Matthew Eddy of Baseball America.  Threets, 30, last pitched in the Majors in 2010, throwing 12.1 scoreless relief innings for the White Sox.
  • The Reds signed right-handers Luis Atilano and Sean Gallagher to minor league deals, reports Eddy.
  • The Brewers have signed catcher Mike Rivera to a minor league contract, reports MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.  The deal includes an invitation to the Brewers' big league spring training camp and is worth $500K if Rivera makes the Major League roster.  Rivera, 35, has spent five of the last six years in the Brewers' organization and will provide the club with extra catching depth.
  • The Rangers signed Alberto Gonzalez to a minor league contract with an invite to the Major League spring training camp, reports MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan.  Gonzalez was released by the Padres last month.  The utility infielder has a career .242/.281/.317 line in 908 Major League plate appearances over five seasons with the Padres, Nationals and Yankees.
  • The Yankees have designated Colin Curtis for assignment, tweets MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.  The move creates space on New York's 40-man roster for Freddy Garcia, whose signing was made official today.  Curtis, a fourth-round draft pick in 2006, has 64 Major League plate appearances to his name.

Royals Designate Jeff Bianchi For Assignment

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | November 30, 2011 at 5:51pm CDT

The Royals have designated infielder Jeff Bianchi for assignment to create 40-man roster space for Jonathan Broxton, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports (Twitter link). Kansas City's 40-man roster remains full.

The Royals selected Bianchi in the second round of the 2005 draft. The 25-year-old posted a .259/.320/.333 line with 23 doubles in 499 plate appearances at Double-A in 2011 and has a career line of .281/.335/.410 over the course of six minor league seasons. He has spent considerable time at both shortstop and second base.
