Abreu, Ramirez, Blanco, Mets On Waivers

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | March 28, 2011 at 4:54pm CDT

D'Backs infielder Tony Abreu, Cubs catcher Max Ramirez, Royals outfielder Gregor Blanco and Mets infielder Luis Hernandez are on waivers, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork adds that Nick Evans and Pat Misch of the Mets are also on waivers.

It's not surprising to see Abreu on waivers, since Arizona made him available earlier in the month. Ramirez is no stranger to waivers, having been claimed twice this past winter. Hernandez doesn't have an obvious role on the Mets and has drawn trade interest.

Pat Misch Clears Waivers

By Tim Dierkes | March 31, 2010 at 1:03pm CDT

WEDNESDAY, 1:03pm: Misch cleared waivers and was sent to Triple A, writes Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog.  This is the time of year to get guys through waivers, as 40-man roster spots are at a premium.

TUESDAY, 3:40pm: Mets pitcher Pat Misch has been placed on waivers, tweets Rich Coutinho of ESPN Radio.  The 28-year-old southpaw posted a 4.48 ERA, 3.3 K/9, and 3.2 BB/9 in 62.3 innings for the Mets and Giants last year.  He logged another 52.3 innings in the minors, with better peripherals.  Misch wasn't particularly good against lefties or righties last year, though the samples are limited.

Odds & Ends: Gaudin, Mets, Cain, Parra

By Zachary Links | March 28, 2010 at 10:11pm CDT

Links for Sunday evening..

  • A's assistant GM David Forst told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that the team did not sign Chad Gaudin as a result of Michael Wuertz's injury.  Forst says that the team has been looking to add bullpen depth all spring, which was their reason for acquiring Edwar Ramirez and Jason Jennings.
  • The Mets will likely wait until the last possible moment to outright pitcher Pat Misch with the hope of stowing him in Triple-A, writes Marty Noble of MLB.com.
  • Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News writes that it will be interesting to see where the Giants' rotation stands in 2012.  San Francisco will have roughly $35MM committed to Matt Cain and Barry ZIto for that season with Tim Lincecum once again eligible for arbitration.
  • Dave Cameron of U.S.S. Mariner (via Twitter) wants Seattle to land Manny Parra, though he can't imagine the Brewers parting with him.  This morning, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reported that Parra could be an available option for the M's.
  • Toronto GM Alex Anthopoulos released Joey Gathright because he didn't think it was fair to send him to the minors, writes Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.
  • The Indians are expected to make their remaining roster decisions by Thursday, tweets Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com.  The Tribe is looking to nail down their final starter, two bullpen spots, and utility players.

Odds & Ends: Dye, Mets, Lincecum, Vazquez, Colon

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | February 12, 2010 at 4:12pm CDT

Some links for your Friday afternoon…

  • Jermaine Dye mentioned to Frank Thomas that he's considering retirement, according to a tweet from CSN Chicago's Chuck Garfien.
  • Adam Rubin of The New York Daily News tweets the Mets' players that are out of options: Pat Misch, Anderson Hernandez, Nelson Figueroa, and Fernando Nieve. All four seem to be on the bubble.
  • ESPN.com's Keith Law says Tim Lincecum left "a lot of money on the table" this morning when he agreed to a two-year $23MM deal.
  • A number of unnamed GMs tell ESPN.com's Jayson Stark that they haven't figured out how to find good middle relief consistently.
  • Javier Vazquez tells Carlos Gonzalez of Primera Hora that he doesn't see himself playing until he's 38 or 39. Vazquez, 33, doesn't expect to retire this year or next year, though. (Translated by Nick Collias).
  • Bartolo Colon's agent tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports that the former Cy Young Award winner wants to pitch this coming season (Twitter link).
  • Tom Glavine tells David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he won't rule out a future as a pitching coach. Now it would be too much of a time commitment for him.
  • Ryan Rowland-Smith says via Twitter that he's glad the Mariners re-signed Mike Sweeney.
  • The Rays signed infielders Angel Chavez and J.J. Furmaniak to minor league deals and invited the pair to Spring Training, according to a team press release.
  • David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News shows that the Phillies have already made major commitments for 2011. They may not be able to re-sign Jayson Werth.
  • ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that Russ Springer intends to pitch this coming season.
  • MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan has details on Khalil Greene's deal with the Rangers. The infielder makes $250K if he spends one day on the team's roster.
  • Neftali Feliz leads USA Today's list of 100 names we need to know.
  • Like most, Jack Moore of FanGraphs finds it hard to imagine 2011 free agent Derek Jeter finishing his career with a team other than the Yankees. One reason Moore believes Jeter's a fit in the Bronx: the shortstop's inside-out swing is perfect for Yankee Stadium.
  • MLB.com's Adam McCalvy guesses that Corey Hart's reps successfully compared their client to Jeff Francoeur and Josh Willingham. Hart won his arbitration hearing with the Brewers.
  • Jon Heyman of SI.com tweets that the Giants and Tim Lincecum went right to the door of their arbitration hearing this morning before settling.

Mets Claim Pat Misch Off Waivers

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | June 5, 2009 at 3:29pm CDT

According to Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News, the Mets claimed Pat Misch off waivers from the Giants and assigned him to Triple A Buffalo. Misch, 27, struggled in four games for the Giants this year. He's starting in the minors, but could provide relief at the major league level for a team that just lost J.J. Putz for eight to ten weeks.
