Zack Stewart (55 on Law’s list) was the #3 Jays prospect according to BA, but doesn’t make BA’s top 100? Seems odd considering their #4 prospect d’Arnaurd makes this list?
I think Aron Hicks seems a little too high as well. I don’t think his production has been strong enough to warrant the status of a top 20 prospect in all of baseball.
I think other then that this list seems pretty solid to me.
I got to see the list before it glitched. Impressive – and encouraging to see the Mets actually have more than 2 prospects on it. Our system needs work but I guess it’s not completely broken!

Why does Keith Law hate Pedro Alvarez?
Because he plays for Pittsburgh…where baseball players go to die?
Pittsburgh was the place baseball players went to die during the Littlefield/McClatchy administration (see Derek Bell, Raul Mondesi, Randall Simon, Matt Morris, etc.). The Huntington/Coonelly/Nutting administration seem to have a plan more geared to success.
I believe that, while Law liked Alverez coming into the draft, he thought the pick was incorrect because other players were better. Probably confirming his previous thinking through his own rankings. Note that Smoak, Matusz, Posey and Hosmer are all ahead of Alvarez.
Despite the fact that Hosmer has done nothing in the minors to merit him being ranked above Alvarez. Aside from the questions marks about Alvarez’s ability to stick at third, I can’t understand Law’s reasoning on this one.
Because he’s not a Boston Red Sox player. Take Law’s lists with a grain of salt. Theo is his best friend and he routinely helps the Red Sox pump up their prospects a la Gammons.
Baseball America has Ryan Westmoreland at 24 and Keith Law has him at 32. Baseball America needs to stop hyping Sox Prospects!

Nice to see 5 Cubs ranked in the top 100. It lends even more credence to the idea that the Cubs system is finally bouncing back. Both BP and Law have 4 top 100 guys. All in all there are 6 different top 100 players between the lists. I never want to take these lists too seriously but the opinion regarding the rise of the Cubs farm system seems to be universal.

Wow, Montero is all over the place on all the lists – I prefer Baseball America’s judgement mainly because that prospects and such is what they seem to do best, but it also could have something to do with the fact they ranked Montero #4 🙂
I’m not really worried about the lack of Yankees on the list though, Montero and Romine provide nice catcher depth and Gary Sanchez is in the system as well. McCallister and Nova both could turn into solid starters, and Mark Melancon should contribute this year. I don’t think our farm system is in as bad of shape as some people will always make it out to be.
Its kinda obvious that some of these lists just start to throw names in any order after the top 15 or so..
It is hilarious that Tyler Flowers is ranked ahead of Dan Hudson, I don’t think anybody in the White Sox organization thinks Flowers is more valuable than Dan Hudson
I think Flowers is a much better prospect than Hudson. Flowers is going to hit and he’s shown a lot of improvement on defense. Hudson is a guy with 4 average pitches, good control and good deception. That profiles as a 4th or 5th starter. He had a great year, but he only had small sample sizes in each league. Let’s see if he can keep outwitting the same hitters over a longer stretch of time.
Montero has been anywhere from 19, to 4, but this list made me happy.
Josh Bell should absolutely be a Dodger right now. It’s sickening that the Dodgers traded him (and Steve Johnson who was actually good…and is now a giant :[ ) for someone who should be a middle reliever for the Dodgers. Screw having a future at third base, because Casey Blake will have 4 WAR seasons for the next 5 years…

This list is a little whacked. For the most part is pretty good, but where some prospects are listed, and how some are even ignored is a headscratcher.
MLB.com’s top 50 list I feel is more accurate.
Montero is said to be a future 1B rather than a C, hence his drop off in value.
I actually found the MLB.com listing the worst not just cause of Montero though. Also, just for context Pedro Alvarez and Brett Wallace are projected to have to move to 1st base and Montero put up better or comparable numbers at a younger age yet those guys were ranked higher. To be honest i have no clue how anyone could rank Brett Wallace over Montero on a list
I have been a baseball america subscriber for decades, and I truly believe that they have always shown a strong bias against the New York Mets organization, and have always rated their prospects much lower than they would a similar prospect in another organization. That being said, nothing backs up the statement I just made more than the placement of top Mets prospects on their 2010 Top 100 list. Jenrry Mejia at 56 is some kind of joke. Half those places at around 25, would be a lot more accurate for a 20 year old with his ability. But I’ll give them that. What is truly mystifying is their placement of Fernando Martinez (the Carribbean Series MVP this winter) at number 77? are you kidding me!? Those guys at baseball america can’t possibly be considered objective when they are so ridiculously prejudiced against one particular team. Is it a New York bias in general, Jim Callas? and the rest of your narrow minded cronies? F Mart belongs in the top twenty right now and baseball america snubbing him will look very large at this time next year, after he breaks out this season.

Montero is apparently doing well in spring training…
“The power-hitting 20-year-old had onlookers buzzing during a batting-practice session on Monday afternoon, striking the top of the “M” high above the area past the left-field wall.”
And he’s doing well in the field too…
“Girardi said that he has already seen improvements in Montero’s receiving and blocking, and that the top prospect is past the elementary stages in his development. The Yankees continue to project Montero as a Major League catcher, though many have suggested that the 6-foot-4, 225-pound slugger could be a future first baseman, designated hitter or perhaps a corner outfielder.”
Personally I prefer if Montero stays far away from the Catcher position so as to keep his power intact for much longer.
But I do believe he’s above a few guys that he shouldn’t be on that list.

Why is Britton ranked so low?
The Pads had 4 guys, not too bad. The only bad part is there in A ball or lower. I think Logan Forysthe deserves a spot on here as well. A strong system is the only way the Pads will be competitive.
I cant wait too see montero next year contending for that starting role. We’re nearing the end of Jorge’s contract and its time he starts mentoring his successor. Montero is the man for the job. I truly think we can have our own version of Mauer. He hits for average and power. Im not saying he is going to be anywhere near Mauer’s all amazing play but i think he can come close.
