Giants To Sign Byung-Hyun Kim

By Tim Dierkes | February 1, 2010 at 1:15pm CDT

The Giants agreed to a minor league deal with reliever Byung-Hyun Kim, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.  Kim last pitched in the Majors for the Marlins in '07.  He signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Pirates in February of '08, but was bought out a month later for $300K.

Kim, now represented by Paul Cobbe, spent most of the last few years "re-charging" in South Korea.

Eric Byrnes and His Dog are the people happiest with this signing.

Hahaha! Finally Kim plays for a team I can root against. BK, thank you for almost losing the 2001 World Series. and thank you for no longer being a dback.

How can you root against the Fresno Grizzlies? They have a really cool mascot and a nice ballpark. It’s all good.

Hahaha fair enough. For the Giants sake, hopefully they let Sabean come out of the pen before BK

Hopefully not. Over the years, Sabes has rarely been able to demonstrate “closer stuff” when it counts.

It’s a minor league deal. And my guess is that’s where Kim ends up.

well i remember watching him in 07 with the marlins and i have to say it was fun watching him. when he was on he did very well, and needless to say when off…he gives up leads…anyways, he’d be a great long reliever/emergency starter. this is a good signing personally, and i wish we brought him back. and as rich waltz and tommy hutton said, he likes to be called “BK Kim”
