Blue Jays Designate Nick Green For Assignment

By Mike Axisa | July 17, 2010 at 9:43pm CDT

The Blue Jays have designated utility infielder Nick Green for assignment, tweets MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. The move frees up a roster spot for Shaun Marcum, who is coming off the disabled list.

The 31-year-old Green hit .154/.214/.154 in 14 plate appearances with Toronto. They signed him last month after he opted out of his minor league contract with the Dodgers.

We’ll always have those fourteen plate appearances, Nick.

Who goes when Snider is activated on Monday?

I would say Tallet, maybe EE?

They are both just flat out horrible.

It turns out that they activated Snider today and optioned him to New Hampshire. He should be called up in a couple of weeks.

Snider was sent to AA, so he can’t be called back for another 10 days. In the meantime, the Jays are having Morrow skip his next start and will essentially be going, briefly, to a 6-man rotation.

I have no idea why Snider isn’t being called back up.

Just checked Bastion blog. I’m disappointed Snider won’t be coming up for another 10 days.

Seriously, EE sucks. Bautista should be moved to 3B and Snider can play RF while EE rots on the bench.

But these 10 days gives AA some time to make a roster move, perhaps a trade.

Morrow is also skipping his next start because they want to limit his innings. Bastion says they are likely going to do that to other starters as well later on.

Inning limits are a load of garbage. These guys have been pitching their whole lives.

Half of them have been babied though. Inning limits are just the norm now. I would rather see someone’s innings being limited than blow out their arm.

Jays have 13 pitchers, 4 lefties in the ‘pen right now. I’m guessing Anthopoulos did this because a Scott Downs trade is in the works.

More like a whole bunch of pitchers are running close to their innings limits. It’s this or start sticking healthy guys on the DL for the rest of the year.

Cito doesn’t play his bench anyway… why not add a starter?
