Phillies Promote Domonic Brown

By Tim Dierkes | July 28, 2010 at 12:38pm CDT

Domonic Brown, one of the best prospects in the minors, was recalled today as Shane Victorino hit the disabled list, reports CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury.  The 22-year-old outfielder raked at Double and Triple A this year.

As multiple reporters wrote earlier, the Victorino injury probably closes the door on a Jayson Werth trade.

The real question is who will play center while Shane is out. If the Phils go with an outfield of Dom, Werth, and Ibanez, who plays center there? Personally, I’d love to see Dom, Werth, & Francisco, with Francisco playing CF.

It will be Ibanez, Werth, Brown– Francisco will get a start in left every 3-4 games.

seriously with Francisco over Ibanez? Have you seen what Raul has been doing since the break? it will be (left to right) Ibanez, Werth, Brown

What he’s been doing is getting platooned. Check it.

While Shane being hurt is not a good thing, the phils being boxed in to keep werth is. Hopefully Oswalt would allow for some kind of reconfiguration of his money so they can work the cap out and they can make another push for the WS.

Dan Haren nets a pupu platter of the Angels’ second-tier prospects and the Astros are going to get the guy who was the best prospect left in the minors yesterday in exchange for Oswalt? Or did you mean straight up for Brandon Lyon?

The Astros can scout Dom all they want. They need a head start for the next time they face the Phillies and he lights them up.

Or.. does this maybe increase the possibility Werth gets traded? If Brown comes up and absolutely rakes between now and Saturday, would the Phils be a little more comfortable trading Werth and getting by until Victorino returns from the DL?

Well if Brown comes up and rakes it means the Phillies will be more likely to let Werth walk after the season and use whatever money they were planning to offer him to sign someone else (a pitcher, perhaps?)

That would be a big step backwards, imagine the Phillies OF production if it’s Ibanez, Fransico, & Brown, no bueno.

While Werth isn’t nearly as good defensively in CF as Victorino I prefer him over Francisco. Francisco seems to have poor judgement or whatever you want to call it on some plays in the outfield.

Really excited for Brown but get well soon Shane.
