Padres Designate Oscar Salazar For Assignment

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | February 1, 2011 at 1:03pm CDT

The Padres designated Oscar Salazar for assignment to create roster space for Samuel Deduno, the team announced (on Twitter). The Padres claimed Deduno from the Rockies over the weekend.

Salazar appeared in 85 games for the Padres last year, playing left, right, first, second and third. The 32-year-old Venezuelan hit .237/.318/.336 in 148 plate appearances. In parts of four seasons with the Padres, Orioles and Tigers, Salazar has a .269/.342/.435 line. His lone DL stint with the Padres occurred last August, when he missed four weeks with a right achilles strain.

Forget Eric Chavez, the Jays should offer him a minor league deal to serve as a backup infielder/outfielder. He is afterall a former Oriole and the Jays LOVE signing ex-Orioles to minor league deals!

Max effort guy….gave his all every time his name was called. Incredible on the field presence, even if we all closed our eyes when the ball was hit in his direction. Thanks Oscar, and good luck

Oscar Salazar – He sounds like a Harry Potter villain pretending to be a teacher in Hogwarts.

Wow, seeing the name Oscar Salazar brings back so many memories. God, those Tigers teams of the early ’00s were awful.

    I agree him being clutch.

When he was with the Orioles everytime we sent him up to pinch hit he came through.
