Front Office Notes: Orioles, Yankees, Angels

By Zachary Links | October 12, 2011 at 8:39pm CDT

Theo Epstein's signing with the Cubs was the big news of the day, but there's plenty of other front office news in baseball..

  • The Orioles are no longer considering Josh Byrnes, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com.
  • Yesterday we learned that Josh Byrnes (Padres), Gerry Hunsicker (Rays), J.P. Ricciardi (Mets), Thad Levine (Rangers), Tony LaCava (Blue Jays), and Dan Jennings (Marlins) are candidates to become the Orioles' next GM.  The wishlist now includes Jerry Dipoto (Diamondbacks), Logan White (Dodgers), Al Avila (Tigers), Tony Reagins (formerly of the Angels), and DeJon Watson (Dodgers), according to Peter Schmuck of The Baltimore Sun.
  • The Yankees have granted the Angels permission to interview both Billy Eppler and Damon Oppenheimer for their vacant general manager job, tweets Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
  • Joel Sherman of the New York Post (via Twitter) believes that Oppenheimer would be a good fit as the GM of the Halos.
  • As of this evening, no teams have asked permission to speak with any of the Mets assistant GMs about job openings, Newsday's David Lennon tweets.

The Orioles should consider Randy Levine of the Yankees.  They will never underspend for a reliever again!  Go ahead please take him, I insist, hes better than Tony Reagins.

Levine has to be packaged with Soriano.

Reagins? Oh jesus. I am rooting for the O’s to rebound but at the same time my hopes to keep the “Roast Of Tony Reagins” threads on this site are just as strong.

Reagins? Surely the Orioles aren’t this dumb.  Or….

I hope the O’s don’t take Reagins, I want to see them as the Beast of the East. Not stay in last place.

As a lifelong Blue Jays fans, I give the Orioles my blessing to interview, and hire JP Ricciardi.

As a seperate but interested party, I concur and suggest they sign him long term.

I imagine (read: hope) that the mentions of Reagins and Ricciardi are merely giving long time baseball folks an honor of being considered.

I’m more interested in the fact that they are considering Dipoto, Levine, etc.

Basically it all boils down to which GM is most willing to brown-nose Angelos and Buck the most during the job.

It doesn’t matter if the GM is Dr. Seuss, Buck and Angelos are calling the shots.

I’m hoping Reagins gets the O’s job, then maybe we can get compensation for him!!!!!

The Red Sox should definitely take Reagins off the Angels hands, just to make their team SOOOOOOO much better!
