Los Angeles Notes: Kuroda, Wilson, Dipoto, Colletti

By Mark Polishuk | November 18, 2011 at 7:50pm CDT

Here's the latest from the City Of Angels (And Dodgers)….

  • Ned Colletti wants to bring back Hiroki Kuroda next season, but isn't sure if the Dodgers can afford him or if Kuroda will return to Japan, reports Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles.
  • The Dodgers' major offseason moves could be wrapping up but Jerry Dipoto's first offseason as Angels GM is just beginning, writes Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times.
  • From that same piece, DiGiovanna notes the club will look at "second-tier starters" like Kuroda, Aaron Harang, Jeff Francis, Bruce Chen and Roy Oswalt.  Kuroda, Harang and Francis are also known to be on the Dodgers' list of pitching options.
  • Of bigger-name starters, the Angels have been connected to C.J. Wilson this winter, but Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles wonders if the Angels' courtship of Wilson just a "smokescreen" intended to drive up Wilson's price for the Rangers.  I'm not sure this tactic would specifically work on the Rangers given how they seem prepared to let Wilson leave if his price gets too high, but it could force one of Wilson's several other suitors to up their offer.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t a smokescreen.  You don’t generally go through all the trouble of meeting with an agent for 3 hours and bring along your assistant GM, and schedule a time to wine and dine Wilson on Monday all for the sake of driving up the price.  If Dipoto indeed was trying to drive his price up, he’d do like Cashman did last year with Carl Crawford, which is simply announce publicly that you’re pursuing him.

The interest in CJ Wilson is genuine and it seems like he’s interested in pitching in So-Cal as well.  Gotta be better for him than pitching in home friendly little league parks like Arlington or New York.

Little league parks? Did it ever occur to you how many power hitters the Rangers and Yankees have on their teams. The players on each team would mash the ball out of any park.
CJ did fine in our ballpark.

The Rangers lineup would make Petco look small. I hate when people use park factors to discredit talent.

          ….and without quoting road stats.

From  mlbSBNation..”The Rangers play their home games in a hitter-friendly environment that boosts their offensive numbers. Hell, in the playoffs, they’ve scored 33 runs in five home games, and 22 runs in five road games. They can hit and they have power, but they’re made to look better than they are by the ballpark named in their honor.”

Not really. Did you know the lackluster offense known as the Angels actually outscored the Rangers on the road last year?

It’s a hitters park its obvious there going to beast in Tex.. Look at Vlad for example..was it really a surprise he was going to be AS quality again? I didn’t think it was a surprise his career numbers in Texas are great..He smashed the ball he love the park..And Texas Road stats dropped dramatically from Home and Road.. they Average 6 runs home and away its 4.. That’s huge…So the stadium obviously has affect on the hitters

Also check out Cj’s Home and away stats..he was so much better away..and his Era in Angels stadium was 0.53..Compared to the 3.69 Era he had in Texas…He will benefit if he goes to the Angels for sure..

I didn’t say he wouldn’t put up a better ERA in a bigger park, but it’s annoying when people say that pitchers can’t be successful in smaller parks.
We sure as hell would give CJ more run support than he’d get in Anaheim. It’s all about winning games.
Don’t forget who he was facing when he posted that 0.53 line in your park.

and away he posted a 2.43 ERA heck a lot better than 3.69 and it’s not that they can’t be successful but it’s that they can’t be as successful… And Yea Tex would give Cj more run support but if he joins the Angels staff he will know that he ain’t going to be a able to blame anyone but himself..So if he wants to compare himself to Lee..He won’t have a problem with the offense and just do what Weaver,Haren,Santana have been doing

But didn’t you stat quote.. The avg 6runs @ home.. So with a 3.69 ERA @ home he gets the win.. It goes both ways people “Phillie fans” who were hating on Kershaw winning the Cy young He had no run support for the 1st 5months of the season he had to pitch almost perfect to get the W. Look @ Kuroda 13-16 with a 3.07 Era.. in the end Talent shines regardless

Yes Rangers scored an Avg of 6 runs home compared to away it was 4…And yea he gets the win but i was saying that if he goes to a pitcher friendly park then his numbers will be better..And i love Kershaw im glad he won it and congrats to him…Same goes to Angels they never had run support and look at our top 3..2 shine the other is invisible(santi)..Talent does shine but he has compared himself to Lee and Texans say that the Rangers will give him more run support then Angels..Well if he compares himself to Lee then Cj will have no problem moving from one of the best offensive teams to one of the most Average offensive team and do what Weaver,Haren,Santana have been doing which is pitching almost perfect each game and eating up innings

Well I do agree he is no Lee not yet anyways.. Lee has proven he can pitch in any park and either league and still be on top.. I have a feeling the Halos are going to lose out on Wilson just like they did Beltre last year.. I think ever since Vernon they have been a little gun shy.

The best thing that could happen for the Dodgers is for the Angels to sign Wilson.

Kuroda’s only LA choice would be with them.

I think he means that the Angels are the Dodgers’ only competition for Kuroda.
