NL East Notes: Prado, Cuban, Madson

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | November 10, 2011 at 3:50pm CDT

There’s been lots of chatter about Martin Prado and Ryan Madson this week. Prado could be traded and Madson may or may not sign a lucrative new deal with the Phillies. Here are the latest updates from the NL East…

  • The Rockies aren't the only team to inquire on Prado, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (on Twitter).
  • David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wonders if Mark Cuban would have interest in buying the Braves should they hit the market at some point. Just as importantly, would MLB have interest in letting Cuban buy a team? The Dallas Mavericks owner has a reputation for challenging the status quo.
  • Executives and agents are split on whether $44MM in guaranteed money is too much for Madson, according to Heyman (Twitter links). The Phillies had been nearing a four-year deal for the closer that would have included a vesting option for 2016, but there's not much optimism that Philadelphia CEO David Montgomery will approve the deal, Heyman reports.
  • MLBTR’s Mike Axisa checked in on the Mets earlier today.

reyes and bourn  in the same lineup would be great if reyes was healthy…but with chipper only gonna play about a 100 or fewer games we dont need another part time high priced superstar, and before anyone says im bashing chipper they are wrong,he is one of my favorite players of all time im just stating a fact…plus leadoff hitters are way overrated…they only lead off one time per game…we need a top notch power bat to go along with uggla, mcann, freeman and hope heyward bounces back…my two biggest things i would work on if i was the braves is to get that bat and sign bourne to an extension….would like them to bring andruw back as a bench player and who knows he may bounce back himself….and as for hanley he has proved time and time again that he is lazy and a prima donna…but i wouldnt hate it if we got him cause he is a talent when he wants to play..

just another person who doesnt know baseball…get rid of chipper? mcann? lol…chipper would be a huge star if he was in new york(bigger then jeter) in my opinion and mcann is the best hitting catcher in baseball…

I would be okay with Mark Cuban buying the Braves.
