Rockies Notes: Prado, Millwood, Hudson

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | November 30, 2011 at 7:15pm CDT

The Rockies have been busy this evening. They traded Chris Iannetta to the Angels for Tyler Chatwood and agreed to terms with Ramon Hernandez on a two-year deal. Here are the rest of the day’s notes on the Rockies:

  • The Rockies remain hopeful of obtaining Martin Prado from the Braves, Troy Renck of the Denver Post writes.
  • There’s a decent chance Kevin Millwood re-signs with the Rockies this offseason, according to Renck (on Twitter).
  • The Rockies have offered Seth Smith to the Braves, but they don’t have interest in packaging him with Tim Wheeler or Charlie Blackmon.
  • The Rockies and Padres haven’t made any progress on a possible deal for Orlando Hudson.
  • Rival teams say the Rockies would like a Double-A or Triple-A pitcher for Ian Stewart.

Rockies would like to acquire a player the Braves can use by giving the Braves a player that they can’t use. Cool story Rockies.

I agree . I Would rather keep Prado as the Braves everyday LFer instead of trading him for someone who won’t play but maybe half that in a platoon role . Doesn’t make much sense . The Braves have additional talents that they could add in a package for someone better .

As a Rockies fan, I completely agree with you, tommy…but we all know how O’Dowd absolutely LOVES to over-value his prospects…Smith is, at best, a platoon player…I know most Rockies fans love him, but he’s expendable just like Spilly…gotta give something to get something…this is apparently lost upon O’Dowd though…

What caliber of pitcher do they want for Stewart though? I mean, his stock has got to be pretty diminished at this point.

Give up Wheeler and the Braves might do it… but Seth Smith is a completely average player.  Martin Prado a couple years ago was 9th in NL MVP.  Really don’t see it happening without a major prospect from the Rockies.

No Thames is not an upgrade over Prado. There is upside on Thames but he might not even hit for 20 homeruns a season.  Prado can hit 20 homeruns in a health season and for average.

      • YanksFanSince78

Prado has never hit more than 15 in any season so why is he a lock for 20 again? In his first full season in the minors, Thames hit 27. In 2011 he hit 7 in the minors and another 11 just from June-Oct when he was called up. That’s just 2 less than what Prado hit in 551 AB and his 4th mlb season. Prado is more likely to hit 20 hrs for what reason again?

Doesn’t seem odd that a team in need of another bat would be willing to trade Prado if they saw him as a 20 hr guy?

        • John Adams

Because he is coming in to his prime and does have the ability to hit 20 homeruns.  Never said lock so don’t put words in someones mouth ok. Also Thames numbers are in a hitter friendly park and I wouldn’t consider Turner Field as one. Just don’t think he would fit at all, being left handed and all.

I don’t want to see Prado traded at all.  However, if the Rockies would send Fowler to the Braves then that would be an acceptable trade.  There is no chance the Braves trade a right handed all-star 2B for a left-handed platoon outfielder like Smith.

If Byrnes can talk anyone into taking Hudson, he should get Executive of the Year immediately.

I, for one, am glad there’s no movement on Orlando Hudson.  I’m really sour on that guy’s act. Do not want.
