Pirates Designate Nate McLouth For Assignment

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | May 25, 2012 at 1:25pm CDT

The Pirates announced that they designated outfielder Nate McLouth for assignment. The club recalled Matt Hague in a corresponding move.

McLouth signed a one-year, $1.75MM deal with the Pirates this past offseason after spending two and a half years in Atlanta. Now 30, McLouth was viewed as a future star when the Pirates traded him to the Braves three years ago. But he didn't hit in Atlanta and he has just a .385 OPS in 62 plate appearances back in Pittsburgh.

Hague, who appeared in five MLB games earlier this season, has a .278/.325/.333 batting line at Triple-A this year. The right-handed hitter has considerable minor league experience at first and third.

Dang, I liked McLouth when he was raking for the Pirates.  I was hoping he’d get it together

In 62 PA’s he had a wOBA of .182.  Meanwhile, the Nats entire pitching staff, in 95 PA’s, has a wOBA of .223.

Thanks for making fans feel more positive with Bob Nutting at the helm.

No doubt it’s Nutting’s fault McLouth can’t hit!

Gorkys Hernandez plays in one wednesday noon game and he has already made a greater impact than Nate Mclouth has in 34 games.

Looks like the Pirates officially won the 2009 Nate Mclouth trade.

Good luck Nate, hope that you find yourself where ever you end up.  You were a fan favorite the moment you came up the first time.  Good Luck.

The Twins need to give him a shot. He is still young, he has shown past prowess, and they aren’t responsible for his salary.

Hope you find what you lost Nate…We all thought coming back to the ‘Burgh would do it…but…well maybe a stint in the minors will. Hope U come back strong!

Maybe Boston and their much needed outfield help will give him a chance

Are the times really that dire in Boston? If you think McLouth is an upgrade, may God have mercy on your souls

Yeah.. He could team up with McDonald and become form a useless twosome…

Thank goodness McLouth is a lefty.. The Sox have several retread style lefties at Pawtucket of equal useless variety if they wanted, so no reason to add this discard into the mix.

Seattle Mariners can use Nate McLouth in a trade package for infielder Chone Figgins and minor league pitcher James Paxton since Nate can try helping the M’s to get into swing of things on offense as it would be a great pick up for the M’s.
