Athletics Designate Sam Fuld For Assignment

By charliewilmoth | April 12, 2014 at 3:27pm CDT

The Athletics have designated Sam Fuld for assignment, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. The move clears space on the team's active roster for another strong defensive outfielder, Craig Gentry, who returns from the disabled list.

Fuld, 32, appeared in just seven games for the A's, hitting .200/.273/.433 in 33 plate appearances. He has a career .233/.312/.334 line in 841 career plate appearances, most of them with the Rays and Cubs. He signed with Oakland as a minor-league free agent in February, then made the team out of spring training when Gentry was unavailable.

We all knew this was going to happen. Glad Fuld played well for us but Gentry was always going to be the fourth OF.

And somehow Daric Barton stays on the roster, again.

Come on Rays, resign him to a minor league deal!

Though would love for Sam to get on a major league team and stay there.

Come on Orioles, I mean with David Lough all over the place healthwise.

Why not? Fuld is a lot of fun defensively, maybe his bat is average at best, but he is clearly fun!

Not likely, but maybe he’ll clear. Would love to keep him around.

He is a good 4th outfielder who plays with lots of energy. Knowing how the rangers pick up the A’s cast offs I wouldn’t be surprised if they claim him and option Choice to AAA. I wish it was Barton instead tired of his lack of hitting and poor defense when the game is on the line.

M’s should claim him so that he can be a 4th outfielder/pitch runner and send Romero to AAA to get regular at bats. No point in keeping a prospect in the bigs if they are not getting regular at bats. They can also release Chavez as well…

Cubs should sign him to a deal just to try and get something out of that Garza trade. (besides what they got after the fact from Texas for him.)
