White Sox Claim J.B. Shuck

By Steve Adams | November 3, 2014 at 2:06pm CDT

The Indians announced that outfielder J.B. Shuck has been claimed off waivers by the White Sox.

Shuck, 27, posted a solid season with the bat in 2013 with the Angels but struggled to repeat those numbers in 2014. After hitting .293/.331/.366 last year, he mustered just a .145/.168/.209 batting line between the Angels and Indians this year. Defensive metrics were very high on Shuck this season, though they saw his work in the outfield corners as average to below average overall in 2013.

In parts of four seasons at the Triple-A level, Shuck is a .302/.381/.384 hitter. He’ll provide the White Sox with some lefty-hitting depth in the outfield — an area in which the team is currently thin.

Good luck Shuck, I will remember that great catch you made on 8/2/13 with the Angels. I hope in the end that’s not the highlight of your career.

Solid pickup. A going to be 28 year-old whose worst case is he’s gone at minimal cost, and best case is a .300 hitter with above average defense.

My team didn’t get him? Aww, Shucks.

Good depth piece for any team to have. He can play everyday and hold the fort if an outfielder goes down. The only thing to really worry about with Shuck is if he goes into a slump he can sometimes start feeling for pitches with his front foot at the plate. Actually makes his swing look strange at times. Overall, he’s one of those little guys who will quietly give a team production when needed. Still wondering why the Astros cut him.

I wonder about a lot of moves and non moves the Astros are involved in.

I think this is pretty much the replacement to Moises Sierra.

This guy is a high lite reel on defense ala Adam Eaton style. Yeah, Monkey, that was an unbelievable catch on 8-2-13. Good arm, good speed and fearless in the field. Nice 4th outfielder. Good claim.

With Eaton, Shuck N Danks from the left side that would be nice but I think Leary is available for of duty as well. Overall real nice cheap move

Samardzija, L. Gregerson & A. Miller or J. Broxton in Bullpen. Viciedo & Nate Jones to Colorado for C. Dickerson & Arenado. Rockies aren’t going to get anything close to what they should for a Tulo or Cargo. Hopefully they misstep and part ways with Dickerson, Arenado, or Blackmon. Sox need Avisail to figure it out at plate. Alexei for Puig & Kershaw or let Alexei retire as a White Sock. If Sox had hitters in LF, 2nd, and C with offensive numbers like Alexei had; Sox would be dangerous. Spend some money Rick
