White Sox Outright Jacob Turner, Purchase Contract Of Jimmy Rollins

By Jeff Todd | March 30, 2016 at 1:06pm CDT

The White Sox announced several roster moves today. Among them, righty Jacob Turner was outrighted off of the 40-man roster, while shortstop Jimmy Rollins was added in his place.

Turner, 24, landed with the White Sox after bouncing around several times in recent years. He agreed to a $1.5MM deal with the club over the offseason.

A former top prospect, Turner is still looking to get back on track after fizzling out in the majors and sitting out much of 2015 with arm troubles. The out-of-options right-hander was hit hard this spring, allowing 14 earned runs on 14 hits and eight walks over 12 innings.

As for Rollins, it was widely expected that he’d open the year as the primary shortstop in Chicago. It seems he’ll still cede time to Tyler Saladino on occasion, but Rollins figures to receive the majority of the action.

Good for Jimmy. I hope he has a huge year with the Sox.
Regarding Turner, Im shocked noone took a shot on him despite the $1.5m guaranteed. He’s a better option than most of the starters on the market simply due to his ceiling (i.e. Kendrick, Lohse)
I think he’s going to figure it out soon enough.

Turner has had trouble getting hitters out, or staying healthy. Not worth a 1.5 mil gamble.

Once so promising. I hope somebody figures out how to fix Turner, he’s only 24 but I been hearing his name and seeing him bounce around for 2+ years. I thought he would make the Cubs after they gave him 6 starts back in 2014 as what I would term as an audition for 2015. Since then he’s been everywhere. At 24, there’s still a chance he figures it out. Hopefully for his sake, he does.

    Great job Rollins!

J-Roll might have a little left in the tank. Father time is undefeated.
