The Marlins have acquired righty Severino Gonzalez from the Phillies, per a team announcement. Philadelphia will receive a player to be named later or cash considerations in the deal.
Gonzalez had been designated for assignment recently to clear roster space for the signing of Michael Saunders. Now, he’ll head to the Phils’ N.L. East rivals in Miami, who have already accumulated quite a few other pitchers over the winter. Gonzalez is still optionable, which increases his appeal.
The 24-year-old Gonzalez has shown intriguing K/BB numbers in his 66 MLB frames (8.5 K/9 against 1.9 BB/9), but he owns an ugly 6.68 ERA. He has always shown excellent control in the minors, and did boast 35 strikeouts and a 3.13 ERA over his 36 innings last year at Triple-A after shifting to a full-time relief role.

If he was 27,28,I’d agree.but he’s only 24 and has had success in the minors with good control.he could still put it together with the right coaches in his ear.

He’s just 24 with pretty solid peripherals….and options.
And he only just turned 24 at the end of September so he won’t even be 25 til the end of next season. Phillies are not exactly known for grooming young pitchers, so get him with the right coaches and he could still end up with some value.
Definitely feel like the Phillies gave up too quickly on a fairly promising young arm with solid peripherals.
With Phillies minor league pitching depth and off season bullpen acquisitions he won’t be missed. Just an inning eater

Im not gonna lie, certainly a bit upset. I always liked his control and thought he could develop into a late-inning reliever.
