Danny Farquhar Discharged From Hospital

By Steve Adams | May 7, 2018 at 4:09pm CDT

The White Sox announced this afternoon that right-hander Danny Farquhar has been discharged from RUSH University Medical Center. He’s resting at home with his family, per the update. While that’s tremendous news in and of itself, the Sox’ press release also indicates that while Farquhar will not pitch again in 2018, his neurosurgeon expects that he’ll be able to return to pitching in the future.

Farquhar, 31, endured one of the most frightening medical ordeals in recent memory when he collapsed in the dugout following a relief appearance last month. He was rushed to the hospital, where it was determined that he’d suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a ruptured brain aneurysm. Best wishes to Farquhar in his continued recovery, and here’s hoping for a return to the mound in the future.

Great news, about as good a prognosis as one could get after suffering this type of trauma. Best wishes to Danny and his family as he continues to recover at home.

A nod to the White Sox as well for their frequent updates while also respecting Danny’s privacy.

This is so relieving. I can’t believe that he’s still going to be a major league pitcher though, I was fully expecting him to have to retire, which is also great news.

What causes a blood vessel to burst? This recently happened to a friend of mine while he was just sitting at home.

Blood pressure can often be a factor. But sometimes they just burst because they just do. Some people have malformed blood vessels that could let go now, or never, or anything in between.

typically, increased intracranial pressure. In this case, possibly from the stress of pitching or the physical exertion of pitching. Obviously there are other reasons it could have happened also.
Also keep in mind that with a ruptured aneurysm, the vessel was not structurally sound to begin with.

I also hope I get to see the first time he steps on a field after all this.
