The Braves are interested in adding a closer this offseason, general manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi at the GM Meetings (Twitter link). That’s a fairly broad term, especially in 2018-19, so there’ll be no shortage of options for the Atlanta organization to pursue. Former Braves star Craig Kimbrel, of course, headlines the free-agent class of relievers, while Zach Britton, Andrew Miller and David Robertson are among the most recognizable names on the next tier of a fairly deep class of a relievers. Trade targets are harder to pin down, though several names have been generally kicked around the rumor mill recently, including Baltimore’s Mychal Givens, San Diego’s Kirby Yates and Seattle’s Alex Colome. Several other names will become available as the season wears on, and the Braves figure to be connected to a wide swath of ’pen options as they look to add a high-leverage reliever to the mix.
Some more bullpen and rotation rumblings from the early stages of the offseason…
- The Blue Jays met with J.A. Happ’s representatives today, tweets Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi. General manager Ross Atkins tells Davidi that Happ is “one of my favorite people in baseball” before also acknowledging that there’ll be ample competition for his services this offseason. Happ just turned 36, but despite the fact that he’s entering the later stages of his career, he remained as effective as ever in 2018. The veteran southpaw turned in 177 2/3 innings of 3.65 ERA ball with a career-best 9.8 K/9 mark against 2.6 BB/9 and 1.37 HR/9 with a 40.1 percent grounder rate. Happ’s 10.4 percent swinging-strike rate was also the highest of his career, while his 31.7 percent chase rate was his second-best mark as a big leaguer. Fellow lefty Rich Hill received a three-year guarantee that stretched into his age-39 season a couple of years ago, so it’s conceivable that Happ could also find three-year offers (which would run into his age-38 campaign).
- Morosi tweets that Happ and Patrick Corbin are among the names the White Sox have considered early in free agency, noting that the ChiSox only have one starter (Reynaldo Lopez) who threw more than 50 innings with a sub-4.00 ERA this past season. Rotation help is a clear area of need for the Sox, though competition for the likes of Corbin and Happ will be fierce. Both starters should draw interest from upwards of two thirds of the team in the league, with Corbin’s market being particularly robust given his status as the best arm on the 2018-19 free agent market.
- Although veteran reliever Shawn Kelley suggested earlier this year that he could retire after the 2018 season, agent Mike McCann tells ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick that Kelley has decided to suit up for another season (Twitter links). Dr. James Andrews recently performed X-rays and an MRI on Kelley and gave him a clean bill of health, Crasnick adds. Set to turn 35 in April, Kelley pitched to a strong 2.94 ERA with 9.2 K/9, 2.0 BB/9 and 1.29 HR/9 in 49 innings this season. Kelley doesn’t throw hard (average 91.2 mph fastball in ’18) but has a lengthy track record of missing bats and has notched a sub-3.00 ERA in three of the past four seasons. The lone exception was a 2017 campaign in which he was limited to 26 innings due to a pair of back issues that landed him on the disabled list.
- The Padres are in the market for starting pitching help this winter, reports Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, but they’ll focus on younger rotation options. San Diego’s goal, per Acee, would be to add someone to pitch at the front of the 2019 rotation and still contribute when the Friars are more concrete contenders. Unsurprisingly, he lists right-hander Nathan Eovaldi as a Padres target. Eovaldi has yet to turn 29, and his strong season split between the Rays and Red Sox — brought into a more mainstream focus with a big postseason showing — will place him on the radar for virtually every team seeking starting rotation help. San Diego did issue a club-record $144MM contract to Eric Hosmer last offseason and an $83MM extension to Wil Myers a year prior, indicating that new ownership isn’t afraid to spend money (though Eovaldi’s market almost certainly won’t push to those levels).
- Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said today that the organization has confidence that flamethrowing right-hander Jordan Hicks could succeed as the team’s closer next season, but that confidence doesn’t necessarily mean he will be in that role (Twitter link via Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch). Goold notes that the Cards could add a left-handed and right-handed reliever this winter. The Cards overhauled their ’pen in significant fashion over the summer when they released Greg Holland, outrighted Tyler Lyons and traded Sam Tuivailala to the Mariners. Since that time, Bud Norris has hit the open market and Matthew Bowman has gone to the Reds via waivers, thus further adding to the potential for turnover.

givens…with the 4 ERA? seriously?
whuron
3.07 FIP
stansfield123
3.12 career ERA, in Baltimore, is stellar. His 3.99 ERA this year is respectable as well, considering the Red Sox and Yankee lineups he faced regularly.
stansfield123
Also, he became the closer for the Orioles for the last 20 games of the season. In that time, he has a 1.99 ERA, with 9 saves and one blown save.
So, for a team like the Braves, that can’t afford to sign a high end free agent closer, he’d be about the best option they could hope for. Gonna cost them a lot though.
Jimiz
Braves got 60+ million to spend and a farm full of potential trade options. I’m eager to see what AA comes up with. If Donaldson is healthy it’s a good bet AA has the inside track on that. Having Josh answers the power bat, protection for Freeman, 3rd base and makes Camargo available for trade or Bench perhaps.
UGA_Steve
Let me put the ERA thing another way. The Braves already have Vizcaino for a cheap contract. Vizcaino was better in ERA though the FIP favored Givens for this one year. An ERA above 3 is not respectable as a closer.
Givens was 9 of 14 in saves, while Vazcaino was 16 of 18.
Givens aLI was 1.484 while Vizcaino was 1.622, meaning Vizcaino came in uinder more duress.
If the Braves are looking for a closer that is better than Vizcaiono, then Givens is NOT it. Just isn’t. Givens would be a setup guy and insurance for Arodys, nothing more. His numbers as a MR/Setup guy over the years are not exactly lethal either.
ammiel
Leclerc, Giles, Claudio and N Jones are all available also right? surely they are also appealing as the names mentioned are.
jdgoat
Leclerc will require a haul. The other three will need to show they are back to being dominant closers before a contender puts them in that role.
thelastonetodie
22 for 22 in save situations for Giles last year and a minuscule ERA in those situations, and his control years, I think he can get it done.. those non closing situations were absolute atrocious though

This is the third article I’ve read today about the White Sox maybe jumping in big into free agency. That would make a very interesting dark horse to shake up the market….
Priggs89
Which means they probably won’t do anything
ChiSoxCity
Keep praying they don’t, cubs fans.
xabial
Still living in age when u signed Adam Dunn?
xabial
Priggs’ one of the biggest White Sox fans here. He’s not a homer, but he’ll prob be pleasantly surprised if WhiSox reel in any of the big fish.
Priggs89
That is correct. I’d be thrilled with either one of them.
Personally, I think I’d lean Harper right now, and I’d give him a fat contract with an opt-out after 3 years (and more opt-outs down the road if necessary). In theory, if he is great and decides to leave after 3 years, the White Sox would’ve already made some noise (hopefully a WS if all goes perfectly), and then at least 2 of Robert/Rutherford/Adolfo/Basabe/Walker/Gonzalez should be ready to join Eloy in the outfield, if they aren’t there already.
As for Harper’s end of the deal, he’d have a giant contract, and he’d be able to hit free agency again before the age of 30 if he wanted.
ABCD
Why would Cubs fans care if the White Sox sign a bunch of free agents?
Slevin
It just seems White Sox fans worry about what the Cubs do, even more than Mets fans do about what the Yankees do.
Mikel Grady
Cub fan, what wrong with crosstown World Series? Would be fun. Quintana vs Jimenez.
ChiSoxCity
So?
Priggs89
No, most White Sox fans don’t – just a few loud ones in the minority.
thelastonetodie
Don’t know about a WS within 3 years with Harper. There would have to be a lot more adds and hit on most prospects for that. Maybe to win the weak central. But Red Sox, yankees and Astro’s aren’t going to out of their windows by then. Astros might, but I can’t see getting to a WS without a lot of help.
mike127
Priggs—love your reply. Exactly the same on the other side—the loud minority makes most fan bases look bad. I’m a long time Cubs season ticket holder and I don’t want to see Sox win—but I don’t want to see them win the same way I don’t want the Phillies, Pirates, Rays, Mariners, etc win. I only care that one team wins–don’t care about the other 29. Not saying I don’t do the friendly ribbing that 40 years of friendship brings along with my Sox buddies—but I assure you, I was happy for them in 2005 and they were happy for me in 2016. I’m sure you have that level of friends on the other side as well. I really dismiss a lot of trolling on this site — and appreciate the honest opinions.
sportingdissent
Because they’re on the back end of their window, they’re probably going to have to make a decision on rebuilding after this season, and if the White Sox suddenly get really good, it will cut into their market.
JKB 2
Cubs fans are not praying that the White Sox do or do not do anything. It White Sox fans who are obsessed with whatever the Cubs do. That is the difference between Cubs and White Sox fans
eduardoaraisa98
Hopefully the Padres can sign either Nathan Eovaldi or Yusei Kikuchi this offseason
Friarfaithful117
Padres seem to have a slight edge on players coming from the NPB but ultimately it comes down to $ most of the time. They did change the posting system which could change some of the dynamics from past players coming over.
nypadre66
Why Kikuchi? Are they looking for another $2M AAA pitcher like Makita?
steelerbravenation
Minter should still be the closer of the future
Bring in Robertson for 2 years with an option go 3 if you have to
Sign Adam Warren and Justin Wilson

For the kind of money I think I’d take a stab at Kimbrel
RunDMC
If I’m the Braves, I hope they make the check out to a presumed David Robertson, but that’s only after Craig Kimbrel rejects an offer.
Sid Bream
AJ Minter is not a closer, he isn’t Billy Wagner either.
I’ve always respected David Robertson as a pitcher, he’s a solid bullpen piece.
As for Warren & Wilson, no thanks.
Bring Kimbrel home if it’s possible.
thelastonetodie
Robertson is the 8th inning answer for most clubs..
UGA_Steve
I like Minter, but Arodys had solid numbers last year. I have no problems going into the season with him as closer and Minter as lefty setup guy. Then swap it if things go wrong.
I do like where you are going with signings though, as the Braves need to focus on bullpen help to get to those guys at the back end. Their middle and long relief was just flat out terrible last year.
CJ81
Please Cardinals grab Miller or Britton. Haven’t had many good seasons by lefty reliever recently.
TradeAcuna
Kimbrel will be a mistake.
Trade Inciarte, Wright, Riley for Kluber
SP should be the main priority for this team. Literally not one guy in the rotation is reliable. I won’t give the ball to any of them in a big game. If this team wants to compete, they need a legit ace.
petfoodfella
No, just no.
AlphaGammaZX
I agree with Mack. Why trade one of our best CF? I mean he won a Gold Glove. So we should just throw him to the wolves? I think not. I rather see Kimbrel back in a Braves Jersey than see Inciarte go elsewhere.
RunDMC
Because he’s taking a step back with his bat and Acuna is playing out of position. Sure, Acuna should be better in theory defensively now with experience at the corner, but if there’s an opportunity to upgrade the offense by getting another corner OF and slotting Acuna in CF, it could make more sense – if another team values Inciarte. It still would be risky because he is controllable and his defense gives him a high floor, but we also have reinforcements coming up in Christian Pache, if Acuna doesn’t work out in CF. That’s a lot of moving parts to make me want to move one of the best gloves in the game, but I’d think he has more of a hold on his position than Swanson does on his.
Zach725
Pache has played very little at AA. Saying he is ender’s replacement is setting some lofty expectations.
bravesfan
Dumb
MTDewdWV
This is a terrible idea for two reasons:
1)The Indians would hang up the phone immediately. Any package for Kluber will have to be Earth-shattering.
2) I am not wholly against trading Inciarte, for the right return. Though, on a team with young pitching, his defense is essential. If he is traded, however, now AA has to figure out a way to snag two outfielders rather than just one. The only way I trade Inciarte is if the Braves are somehow able to find a second and third outfielder who provides more value than he does.
nypadre66
I hear the Padres will trade Ryan Ludwick to the Indians to get Kluber back.
braves25
I personally would be more worried about keeping Wright and Riley then Inciarte! Acuna can play CF, Riley or Duvall is better then he showed in ATL last year! They still get 1 more corner bat!
So I try to hold onto Riley…but Inciarte and others to Cleveland for Kluber!
Inciarte, Swanson (moves to 2nd for Cleveland), Gohara, and Allard! Ramirez can go back to 3rd and Inciarte fills their CF need also!
Samuel
lol
Why would the Indians do that?
Kluber is one of the top 5 starters in MLB. No injury history. Has a team-friendly, below value contract.
Inciarte is nice to have, but his contract is about to escalate.
The Indians are better off with what they have then with what you’re offering.
If they move Kluber or Corrasco, they want a young power bat to start.
steelerbravenation
Sounds like Chris Sale & what did the White Sox get for him ?
I actually think Cleveland would do
Newcomb ( SP with team control mlb proven)
Inciarte (proven gold glove CF which they need)
Riley ( top prospect )
jbigz12
for Carrasco. Kluber is going to hurt a lot. I think it’d take a little more for him.
Samuel
steelerbravenation;
Here’s what you’re missing……
The Indians best position prospect is Yandy Diaz. He can hit, but has limited power. They already announced that he’ll be playing 3B next year, and that Rameriz will stay at 2B.
Inciarte is nice. But they already have a lead-off hitter. Greg Allen and Leonys Martin play a very good CF. They’re already signed for 2/3’rds of what Inciarte is due. The reason for shopping 2 aces is to get some payroll relief and bring in young, cheap, controllable players – particularly a power bat.
I won’t belabor this any more. At least 10 teams are looking at Kluber or Corrasco, both signed to team-friendly contracts. The Indians are dealing from strength. They are going to get what they’re after, or they’ll just hold onto the pitchers – who are not in a walk year and whose value will just increase in 2019 heading into the trade deadline.
I don’t think the Braves and Indians match up well.
SoCalBrave
Samuel is right, what the Indians need is what we don’t have, a power hitting corner outfielder or corner infielder.
southi
What is Austin Riley? Even after missing time with injury he hit 19 homeruns while playing in pitcher’s parks in AA and AAA.
tjd8686
Did Austin Riley die?
BasedBallGuru
If you followed prospects you would know Riley is a top young power bat. His ceiling is probably around .285 w 35+ homers. From people who’ve seen him anyway. He was drafted in the first round as a 3rd baseman, even though most teams saw him as a better pitching prospect. Which is probably why he is sneaking up on so many people. Hes developed very fast for a high schooler, not even counting he was pitching mostly in Hs.
Cardinals17
I agree with you about the cost for Kluber. However, Carrasco be a better long term.
UGA_Steve
Samuel, get used to the Inciarte trade scenarios from Braves fans. We see him for what he is .. a great glove but a terrible hitter (low OBP, no power, and gets caught stealing far too often). So, Braves fans try to include him in almost every deal, especially if the other team needs an OF.
Sadly, every GM in baseball sees what Ender is as well, so his value isn’t nearly as high as the hype. He is absolutely a solid player and classy, but you can see why Braves fans want him to be the piece they move.
RunDMC
You’re right – you won’t give the ball to any of them in the big game.

1) Trade Teheran & Camargo to the Diamondbacks for Grienke & 3B J Lamb
2) Trade M Foltynewicz & A Jackson to the Mariners for OF Mitch Haniger,
RP Alex Colome, & C Mike Zunino
Grienke, Newcomb, Gausman, Soroka/ Touki, Gohara/Fried
1) Inciarte. CF LH. 200 Hits 20 SB ?
2) Albies. 2B. SH. 20 HR, 40 2B ?
3) Acuna. LF. RH. 30/30 ?
4) Freeman 1B LH. MVP ?
5) Haniger. RF. RH. 30 HR 40 2B .280
6) Lamb. 3B. LH. 30 HR 80 RBI ?
7) Flowers/Zunino Best Def C combo in MLB ? Perfect for our young pitchers
8) Swanson. SS RH .270 15HR GG ?
Teheran 11M, Markakis 11M, Folty 5M
That makes Grienke much more affordable.
Grienke & Zunino & New pitching coach…great mentors for young pitchers !!
RunDMC
The same silly, silly trade scenarios. Yeah, let’s trade Folty and add Greinke. I love a scenario where you think Folty is so valuable that he gets Haniger, Colome and Zunino. They gave up on A-Jax once, and his play hasn’t changed their mind. There’s a reason they moved him off of the plate, so I wouldn’t expect he is their catcher of the future (trading Zunino). If M’s want any of their prospects back, I’d imagine Gohara would be the one — and even then, he’s coming off a down season so I couldn’t imagine ATL selling low.
Samuel
“The same silly, silly trade scenarios.”
lol
It happens all the time here, particularly in the off-season. On trades and with the name free agents. Fans of almost 20 teams think Harper or Machado are on their way. some think both are.
Realistic trade proposals and projected signings are fun. Not sure I’ve seen any here since about the time the WS started.
southi
Run was specifically referencing the SAME specific trade scenario proposed by the SAME poster. It has been repeatedly posted in threads for awhile now.
jkurk_22
I was okay with the first trade, but not with moving Folty. That second trade would be absolutely stupid on our part
RunDMC
I’m not. He doesn’t mention how much money would be included getting Greinke coming back, because if it’s nothing – I don’t want any part of that. I’m sorry but Greinke is 35 and still doesn’t deserve market rate, if we can avoid it. He also mentions Johan Camargo, presumably having Lamb take over at 3B. Look at Camargo’s age-24 season and Eugenio Suarez’s age-24 season and they’re very close. I don’t think Camargo will have his power, but I don’t think 30 is impossible in that ballpark. Not to mention Camargo’s glove keeps getting better. Lamb is a plus-defender but is not a contact hitter and is about to get expensive (because of his power).
SoCalBrave
Billy mentioned on another post that we would take Greinke’s whole contract. Together with Lamb, that’s over 40 million next year. So we would essentially be paying 35 Million for 0.3 war increase (the difference between Folty and Greinke)
Syndergaarden Cop

I don’t understand why the Mariners wouldn’t trade Díaz. They could get a top prospect back for him. What’s the point of having your best player be a closer on a non contending team?
angelsfan4life
Dipsnot doesn’t trade for prospects. He only knows how to trade them.
SuperSinker
Ownership clearly signaled they wanted the Mariners to push the chips forward, he did what he could.

I don’t think that is a bad proposal and as a brave fan I do that deal in a minute
Ppl gotta get off the Kimbrel signing already
Sid Bream
“Ppl gotta get off the Kimbrel signing already”
Why?
RunDMC
Because it’s highly unlikely that it happens. If Kimbrel is trying for a record contract, he isn’t getting it from ATL – nor should he. Closer is the most venerable positions. It’d make more sense to use some of that prospect capital and get an upstart closer. Kirby Yates? Is Edwin Diaz really available?
bravesfan
Braves need to get more relievers than 1 closer. We need 2-3 shutdown arms in that bullpen.

Unfortunately, history is on your side. Preller has not shown any ability whatsoever in acquiring ML pitching and putting together a big league staff.
For all of those people who seem to think we’re going to flip a switch and win the World Series in 2020, it needs to start happening in 2019. That’s reality.
SDpadresFan
Sometimes not making a move is the best move to make. Padres were linked to chris archer last year. Tampa got top prospect austin meadows and former top prospect glasnow. Archers stats coming to the NL are slightly worse than his career stats. Tampa was trading him as a #1, Preller didnt make the move because he saw him as a #3 with numbers that are fading quickly.
Padres were also linked to Synderaarg who is a pretty big DL threat and i would imagine it would take quite the haul to snag him.
Just because preller hasnt acquired any ML ready pitching talent doesnt mean he is incapable of doing so. The team is building from the ground up (and letting their farm system grow and develop and show its worth to other ML teams) before jumping into the ML levels of trades
SDHotDawg
Being “linked” means nothing. It could be anything from a rumor to a single phone call.
You’re right, it doesn’t mean Preller is incapable of actually acquiring a decent SP. But, as I said, history – his track record – does not work in his favor.
And neither you nor I know if Preller saw Archer as a #1, #3, or even a #8. Making excuses for failure is still just making excuses. We’ll see what he can do this off season.
SDpadresFan
aye I agree with that, I am just hoping he doesn’t get taken advantage of as other Padre GMs have in the past.
nypadre66
Like the clown who extended Myers and signed Hosmer to 2x what he’s worth last year?
Wainofan
Cards need more than one piece in bullpen. Rather than $70 million for Kimbrel I’d prefer kelly and one of Miller/Britton for roughly same money. Miller, kelly, Hicks, Reyes would be core of great pen with no one as “set closer”
steelerbravenation
I can’t believe all the nostalgia for Kimbrell unless he would take a hometown discount why invest all that money in such a volatile spot
How many big money contracts for closers work out for the length of the deal ?
steelerbravenation
Surprised all the nostalgia seekers aren’t clamoring to bring back McCann
southi
Kimbrel has a legitimate chance to be one of the top 3 relievers of all time. The ONLY real reason anyone talks about Kimbrel having an “off year” is because he has set expectations so ridiculously high by consistently performing as one of the best relievers in history. Without a doubt I’d prefer to take the risk on him than anyone else coming close to his quality out of the pen.
Brian unfortunately was on the decline before he ever signed his big deal with the Yankees. As much as I’ve been a huge fan of his (almost since he was born, I was at UGA when his dad was an assistant) McCann is past his prime and isn’t a fit for Atlanta.
jkurk_22
Finally someone with a brain
SoCalBrave
more like half a brain. Kimbrel would be a bad signing that we would regret 2 years from now.
CardsNation5
I honestly feel like Hicks could benefit from going back to the minors to fine tune his pitches. Yes, he throws hard, but players were catching up to his fastball and his sinker was all over the place. It’ll be beneficial to him and the organization if they sent him back down.
Wainofan
Send down the best reliever on the team? Is he a work in progress? Yes. He’s 22. At end of year he was gassed and out of steam but he should be stronger this year and with bullpen help added he won’t have to throw quite as much of others can be relied upon. He’s developing a filthy slider. Cards are going for it next year and they need bullpen improvement so you don’t send down your best piece unless you’re rebuilding
hollidayfever
Hicks was a little above average this year with shaky peripherals and mostly terrible K/BB numbers. While it’s likely based on his fastball he should be pretty solid at repressing homeruns and running lower BABIP than average, he’s got to continue to develop that slider in order to become a legit late inning hammer. I think he also needs to get a 4 seamer to pitch more up in the zone to boost his empty swing count.
thelastonetodie
Agreed
pinstripes17
Are you serious? teams just don’t randomly send down their most talented and successful pitchers for no reason.
I Believe We Can Win
Kirby Yates- Hunter Renfroe- Craig Stammen for 1 of Allard or Fried or Newcomb- Teheran- Swanson
Braves get their pen help in yates and stammen, OF power bat in renfroe to pair with Acuna. Part with some pitching but keep touissant Newcomb soroka wright Anderson Folty.
Padres get an immediate rotation arm, reclamation project in Teheran and Swanson to see if he can tap into his potential.
Friarfaithful117
No way Atlanta is letting Swanson go for that. I believe in Renfroe but he is not really valued around the league. The other two relievers are good maybe even great last year but with limited years of control are unlikely to bring back significant haul.
I Believe We Can Win
I think Swanson has-run his course in Atlanta. Camargo at ss Riley at 3rd or maybe they splurge on machado at ss given their rotation cost is super cheap.
Either way Swanson on a learming.curve on a contender is a liability.
Renfroe is a cheap power bat that hasn’t hit arb yet and keeps cost dowm while dealing from a surplus.
Machado doesnt cost a draft pick which im sure holds appeal to Atlanta though the price may not.
SoCalBrave
Swanson took a huge step forward last year, specially defensively and offensively also, although to a lesser extent. If anything, he solidified his position within the organization. In no way he’s gonna be a throwaway or reclamation project for another team. The Braves will not sign Machado, even if Swanson or Camargo were to be traded.
bleacherbum
As a Padre fan I don’t like that trade proposal.
For one, I believe trading Renfroe at this point in his career could turn out to be Anthony Rizzo 2.0- I’m not willing to risk that.
For two, why bring in Swanson who is still young/controllable/etc. when our SS of the future is less than half a season or so away from taking that job for the long run? I think a trade like this would make things messy.
I like the Yates idea to ATL however, AA came out and said they want a closer. SD has two years of solid production from him, moving him now makes sense. Also he is 31 and SD has in-house options for Closer- Stammen, Castillo, Stock, Wingenter, Wieck, Possibly Strahm if he doesn’t crack the rotation as well.
Something like RHP-Kirby Yates, UTL Corey Spangenberg, OF Travis Jankowski for 3B- Austin Riley.
Just like Hand plus Cimber for Mejia. It takes quantity to get young quality, in terms of top prospects. SD cashes in on 2 years of a high-level performance by Yates, also get OF depth in Jankowski and infield depth in Spangenberg, he can help ATL in a similar way that Culberson does, but can hit left handed.
San Diego gets a 3B of the future to partner with Tatis Jr.
SDHotDawg
Good post. But I reaaly cringe every time I hear player “of the future” as if it’s a guarantee.
Totally agree on Renfroe. I have really high expectations for him. I think a good return could be had for Margot, especially in terms of landing a quality SP. Thankfully, nobody’s talking about trying to land Folty, as I’m just not convinced he’ll ever be any better than what we saw in 2018.
Friarfaithful117
I would take that deal in a heartbeat but I don’t think it’s going to land Riley. Maybe moving Yates at the deadline could bring back a good prospect but right now the reliever market has too many options. Maybe we could grab Riley in a Myers deal or one of the controllable RP’s.
Tenn Braves
Add in Austin Hedges and you may be on to something.
DanUgglashoe
Ok I know a closer isn’t involved but how about this idea that I think both sides could argue for it being better:
Braves get Madison Bumgardner and Joey Bart. Giants get Mike Soroka, Kolby Allard, and William Contreras
Braves get an experienced arm and a very promising catcher for the future.
Giants get to buff up their system by adding two top 100 pitching prospects that could be called up and start gaining experience now, and they get a potential everyday catcher for down the line still..
Friarfaithful117
It makes no sense for the Giants to part with Bart. Maybe that deal would work just minus Bart, otherwise the return is very light. I don’t think the Giants are going to sell anyway.
JFactor
Ideally, the Cards land Donaldson, and two of Miller/Britton/Allen/Ottavino/Kimbrel
If only one of the above, then trade for the opposite hand with two of J Martinez/Gyroko/Munoz/additional specs
Really need relief help and Donaldson this off-season.
Will help getting Reyes back, and into the pen
Cardinals17
I can’t believe they didn’t offer multi millions For John Mozeliak of the Cardinals!!!!
Erie4312
Braves sign Brantley for a couple of years for around 13 mil a year.
