Braves To Sign Pedro Florimon

By Jeff Todd | December 3, 2018 at 7:29pm CDT

The Braves have reportedly agreed to a minor-league pact with veteran infielder Pedro Florimon. Roster Roundup had the news recently on Twitter, with Jon Heyman of Fancred tweeting today that a deal is in place.

Florimon, who’ll soon turn 32, has found his way onto a MLB roster in each of the past eight seasons. He has only twice reached triple-digit plate appearances, though, and hasn’t done so since a 2013 campaign in which he received semi-regular time with the twins — but hit just .221/.281/.330.

In the intervening years, Florimon has carved out a role as a handy depth infielder. He cracked the Opening Day roster of the Phillies last year, but missed much of the season with a broken foot. He doesn’t seem to have much of a path onto the Braves roster awaiting him in camp, though he could certainly be the first man up if a need arises in the infield.

Sure. Won’t be on the 40 man. Depth in the minors in case of injury.

      Swanson wrist
      Donaldson shoulder etc.
      And more..

Rather see them show more faith in INF of their farm. But really who cares. This should not make headlines. Must be dead in the winter to post this

He was second only to Andrelton Simmons in RngR (the number of runs above or below average a fielder is, determined by how the fielder is able to get to balls hit in his vicinity) in 2013.

paulnewman – Yes, it was a shame he could not hit at all as he was the Phillies best fielder last season too. 7 different positions in 2018 and only 2 errors at SS. Judging on who else was on our field, that was darn good LOL

We played the Braves 12 games before May 23. He was playing that whole time. He played against the Braves in most of those games before he broke his foot.

OH and then he pitched in 2 games and in one, gave up lots of runs against the Braves on March 31. That was all over MLB Network and Sport Center because Kapler forgot to warm people up and generally was incompetent that series (and for the remainder of the season)…

Apparently you are not as big of a baseball guy as you may think as that was against the Braves.

i dont think the braves need camargo and culberson for utility but we should not trade camargo

let him play OF and make serious upgrades to pen and rotation. Camargo has the arm and will look better with Inciarte and Acuna

Look at it this way, ATL got Donaldson to fill OF spot, substituting defense for power

Wright, Allard, and Lottery ticket, maybe more for Haniger. And I’d personally rather not trade a Gold Glove CF on a cheap contract for a 32 year old pitcher.

If AA is planning something blockbuster he better back off. You have inherited this farm system with Big arm talent and a few high ceiling studs. Don’t give them away because fellow Phillies and Mets did a boneheaded move. You struck first and didn’t mortgage the future. Let the teams call you except for Toronto.

How can you say in 1 post not too give up your Farm talent, but then say “Only accept a trade for Trout or Scherzer? ” Hell. It would take the Braves entire farm to get Trout plus Carmargo & Ender Inciarte

If AA gives any of the top arms to anything the mariners hang out their. Just dumb. Trout would take in my opinion Anderson, Wright, touki, Riley, Ender and Camargo. With his contract the angels should decide on trout this winter or else they just let him walk out the door. Rather it be a year or two with Braves than Yankees, or Phillies or better yet the Dodgers

Pedro Florimon is an easy guy to root for. He’s a tiny guy with almost no power, but he plays as hard as he can every second he’s on the diamond. He’s great with the glove, has great speed on the bases, and you can do a lot worse for a last guy on the bench.

Being honest,im a Phils fan. Not trolling. I hate braves but respect more than the New York teams so ill chat. Yous got an ok player in Florimon. Good guy,can field well, kunda clutch..
Ifhe sticks,he helps. Seriously, happy 4 him and yous. Him,Donaldson…good start.Dont thibk, however, youll get Jluber without SERIOUSLY overpaying. Teheran us a GOOD pitcher- why yrade him!??! Hell, ill take him in Philly! And we r gonna get Harper and Corbin too ( rumored here HOT) cuz, well,we r a bigger market. Plus owners are gonna OVERPAY. But,you guys are still a tad better rhan us right now. Couple signings,we shall see. Yous NEEDED Diaz..and we both hate mets so that sux. Yous oughta get Kimbrel. And,mebbe Greinke. Or Keuchel. Itll make yous better. May the hottest, smartest team win. Good luck.

6th IFers and 5th OFers have gone the way of the Hula Hoop with the advent of 13 man pitching staffs. But, since Pedro is both, and actually plays anywhere from excellent (IF) to above average (OF), has speed, and switch hits, he’ll always have a path to spend at least sometimes on a MLB roster.
A no brainer on a minor league deal.

Florimon is a great pickup. Late inning defensive replacement at many positions. Not much of an offensive player but I don’t really think the Braves need that. I feel for the last guy on the roster he is great.

Resign Markakis for 2 years to hold it down until Pache is ready. Markakis deserves to come back to see this thing thru. He is a valuable leader in the clubhouse and a great example for the young kids on how to be a professional. With the Donaldson acquisition he won’t be playing out of place and be asked to do to much. He is not a cleanup hitter but I feel a good 2 hole hitter.

TOR starter is going to be hard to come by. All the available either are going to cost to much money/years on free agent market or the ones via trade we don’t match up on what teams are looking for in returns.
MadBum to me is the best fit but I think it would take a huge overpay which I would be ok with. Or Greinke which would be taking on more than I think the Braves would be willing to pay on that contract. Kluber rhey don’t match up with the needs. But a name that I don’t hear about is Marcus Stromen. You would be buying low and I think with the infield defense behind him in Atlanta and the OF defense for that matter as well would good for him. I would think a package of Allard, Wentz & Izzy Wilson could get it done.

If Seattle tries to take the Braves to the cleaners for OF Mitch Haniger, another option just may be Wil Myers from the Padres.

Myers a RH hitter can be penciled in for
    .250, 30 2B, 25-30 HR & 20+SB.
In 2019 he will only be 28y/o (same as Haniger) and make 5M. Its the next 3 years he gets a bit pricey @ 22.5M.

The Padres have several young OF they want to play and w/ Hosmer @ 1B, Myers and his contract are a burden to them.

If the Padres were to throw in 15M and swap Myers for SP Julio Teheran, I feel that this could help both teams.
