If Hahn trades for Bumgarner or someone like that when the White Sox are out of the race cuz he thinks he’ll be able to extend/re-sign him he needs to be fired.

100% correct. That would be a god awful move.
On the other hand, someone under team control and just in their prime like Mancini intrigues me (cost dependent, obviously). Pitching is clearly a bigger need at the moment if they want to make a splash though. So I guess my wishful thinking plan is to go get Mancini, pay Cole in the off-season, move Eloy to 1B or DH, and hope Luis Robert can stay healthy. Oh yeah, and have Rutschman drop to third in the draft. Then have Reinsdorf sell the team. Then move the team to Vegas. Then win multiple championships and watch the profits roll in.

What’s wrong with “average”? By definition there are a lot worse managers than him in the bigs then.
by definition average is also extremely easy to find. And as a general rule in a competitive context you kind of want better.
personally i woudn’t even rate Mattingly that high, to be honest.
I ment to also ask him what he thought of the odds of Ozzie Albies or Ronald Acuna Jr getting picked to take place in the Home Run Derby this year?
The home run derby is now more about who’s willing to do it, rather than who wants to.
