Felix Pena Suffers Right Knee Sprain

By Dylan A. Chase | August 3, 2019 at 8:01pm CDT

In a 24-hour cycle that has seen big leaguers hitting the IL in droves, it may be time to declare the “dog days” as being officially upon us. Angels hurler Felix Pena–he of the emotionally charged combined no-hitter from earlier this season–is the latest athlete to endure an apparently serious injury, as the team announced via Twitter that Pena was removed from tonight’s game with a right knee sprain.

Given the events happening elsewhere in our nation this evening, it would be crass to make too much of a non-life-threatening injury sustained by an athlete on a baseball field. That said, when paired with the tragic loss of Tyler Skaggs earlier this year, Pena’s injury is just the latest episode in what has been a season from heck for Angels fans. The team in Anaheim has already seen injuries befall Andrew Heaney, Tommy La Stella, and several other contributors amidst a 56-55 campaign.

In addition to his part in that unforgettable no-hitter on July 12th, Pena has logged respectable numbers in his second Los Angeles season, with a 4.66 ERA that looks slightly worse than his solid 9.60 K/9 and 3.23 BB/9 markers. The 29-year-old had been working out of the rotation in tonight’s game with the Baltimore Orioles.

The fact he couldn’t put any pressure on it and he had to be carried by two people just sucks

Fire Ausmus please!! He can’t make a line up or manage a team to win!! 1st & 2nd no outs with #8 hitter up no bunt try, swinging away hits into DP

Unfortunately he will be the only FA signing Eppler made this year that won’t be DFA. He is absolutely terrible. I’m not sure why they even have a 3rd base coach. They don’t bunt, they don’t hit and run, they almost never steal and he holds every runner.

3rd base coach went to the dodgers. May as well put a stuffed rally monkey there now.

Not yet. If not for his drafting and trades, this team would be one of the worst in baseball with Trout. If Dipoto was the GM he would have already traded Trout and Ohtani for garbage and the Angels would be 5-7 years from being competitive

Angels need 5 extra SP for when the others get injured

He’s certainly not a fan of this franchise by any stretch. And when the club eventually rights the ship and starts winning, he doesn’t deserve to be around.

Proofread people. Angels are playing the Indians, not the O’s. Not the first I’ve seen of this type mistake. Previously they reported Marcus Stroman making his Mets debut against the Cubs. Wow.

it’s over. mail in the results. the season is history and we’ll finish in last place at 70-92. that’s really not too bad considering we don’t even have a pitching staff.
