The Mariners announced yesterday they have placed reliever Brandon Brennan on the 45-day injured list with a left oblique strain. The right-hander got into one game before the injury.
Brennan stuck with Seattle as a Rule V pick out of the Rockies organization last season. While he only managed a 4.56 ERA in 47.1 innings as a rookie, he also showed some intriguing swing-and-miss stuff. Brennan’s 15.1% swinging strike rate dwarfed the 11.1% league average and had positioned him as a likely key piece in a shaky Seattle bullpen.
Instead, he’ll be out for an extended period of time. The Mariners didn’t immediately make a 40-man roster addition, suggesting they simply had no expectation Brennan would be in position to return anytime soon.

Brennan was actually a Rule 5 pick out of the Rockies organization. He had signed a minor league deal with Colorado before he was picked by the M’s.

Corrected, thanks!

Hopefully they’ll add Delaplane or Gerber onto the 40 man and give them a shot over Shaw

I was disappointed Sam D and Joey Gerber didn’t make the team, I hope you’re right because Shaw is rubbish. If we had a half decent BP and better defense I really think we’d be over .500 by now.

They need to get rid of one, or both, of Marmo and Vogey. Even though they’ve struggled previously, the should be playing at least one of Bishop or Fraley. Lopes should be playing every day
Pitching wise, Shaw is a waste of a roster space. They need to be getting the younger arms in the bullpen time. I’d like to see both Delaplane and Gerber with the team getting experience.

I have never been a fan of fat Danny. He looks and swings like a beer league first baseman. Pitchers figured out after the AS game how to pitch him and he is continuing his after the AS break numbers. I thought it was sad that he was our pick for the AS Team. It shows how poor our team was.
There has to be a player they could bring up. DH could be an as a committee position and play who they bring up. They might just keep him for the year and see if he can figure out how to hit a ball so he has a tiny bit of trade value. We shall see he is just lost at the plate.

It’s 2020 and people are still name-calling like 1950’s school children? Seriously!? Let’s ditch the insults and talk about the issue(s) at hand, shall we?
Daniel Vogelbach’s problem has mostly been mental.. He’s not aggressive when he needs to be, too aggressive when he shouldn’t. be. Mariner coaches believed he was further hurting himself with something in his stance and/or approach, which was he was out of the lineup for a while. This is a season to get a look and assess what you have. Dan perfectly fits into that group, as does Sheffield, Dunn, and a number of other players and relievers.
That said, DH’s with little or no proven track record don’t have trade value. If he doesn’t cut it with Seattle, he’s more likely to be DFAd.

The name-calling has probably gotten worse in the last four years.

Wow aren’t we just the uppity perfect man? It is a freaking joke get off your high horse and relax a little.
Daniel ride a high when the whole team was playing above themselves. He started to slow down when the rest of the team did. He hit a little longer but no where near what he did early. It was sad like I said that he represented the team at the AS game. It is what you get when it is mandatory for each team to be represented.
I have been totally serious about his beer league swing. He stops his swing about 3/4 of the way through and the bat ends up straight up in front of his face. It is the swing of a fat out of shape beer league softball player that has no flexibility. Not sure if you been to one of the games or if you are old enough. They outlawed beer in the dugout from what I am told now. He would have fit right in the pack.
I think more than him having a problem with his stance or whatever excuse they want to give pitchers have figured out how to pitch him. Down on the offside then up and away with a breaking ball off the plate. The great eye he was supposed to have has left him. He does the same thing when he disagrees with a strike call. Steps out turns his back to the ump and smiles or shakes his head. The ball was waist high middle in but he thinks it is a ball.
As for trade value unless he goes on a tear will have little. He is cheap and could be a piece on a trade. Every coach thinks they can fix a guy if they had the chance. He could be the difference between a trade going through or not.
I really almost apologize if I have hurt your feelings. I kinda almost don’t really care. If you can’t take the levity of something someone writes that is on you. I read your stuff and agree most of the time. You must be an engineer because you have that attitude. You go on writing what you want and I will continue to try and break up the dry monotone posts with some levity. I guess if you don’t like it don’t read my posts. Peace out and smile a little.

If you want me or anyone else who interacts respectfully to take you seriously, you’ll forget the name calling and focus on facts. There’s no need to take offense over what I said and I certainly wasn’t offended over your remark(s). Just a little disappointed, because you’re a Mariner fan like me, which is why I read your comments.

The question is when Seattle wants to start the clock on those guys.
Delaplane will be Rule-5 eligible, so he might be a late call up. But Gerber… easy to see them waiting til May or June. Gilbert and Kelenic won’t like be debuting this year, either. They might be in that same timeline.
They have plenty of other young arms they should be looking at first, anyway. Swanson, who was just called up, Warren, and Guilbeau are a few. Adams and Bautusta will need opportunities when (if) they return from injury as well.
There’s no rush right now.

Does a clock even matter when no one really knows what form service time will even exist in by 2026? Or even if Major League Baseball will exist by then.
Stevil
Of course it does.
The new CBA won’t be in place until after the 2021 season and those players will all likely be up at some point before then.
If there are any changes regarding service time to prevent manipulation, it would more likely apply to players further out, like Rodriguez, Hancock, Kirby, Williamson, Marte, DeLoach, etc.
Stevil
And just like that, Gerber gets the call. So, the answer to the question is “now”. They’re willing to start the clock to get him immediate experience.
Could be a sign that they intend to groom him for closing duties. Could also suggest Hirano isn’t expected back anytime soon.
Delaplane and Mills should be next in line.
