Michael Conforto Done For Season

By Connor Byrne | September 24, 2020 at 2:27pm CDT

The Mets have placed outfielder Michael Conforto on the injured list with hamstring tightness and recalled infielder Luis Guillorme, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com was among those to report. This will end Conforto’s season.

Plenty has gone wrong this year for the Mets, who entered the campaign with playoff aspirations but have since stumbled to a 25-31 record. But the Mets do boast one of the majors’ best offenses, ranking second in the league in wRC+ and 11th in runs, and Conforto’s a key reason for the success they’ve had at the plate. The 27-year-old was a quality hitter for the Mets from 2015-19, but he found another gear this season with a line of .322/.412/.515 (157 wRC+) and nine home runs across 233 plate appearances.

Conforto earned a prorated $9.7MM this season, and going forward, he has one more year of arbitration eligibility left. The Mets and soon-to-be team president Sandy Alderson will have to decide in the offseason whether to extend Conforto, who’s open to the possibility, trade him or let him play out his final year of team control.

Great season for Michael. Not so much for the Mets. Ready for a great offseason.

Hopefully just precautionary and he’ll be fine for next year. But still, ugh.

Great year, and most importantly he proved he can be consistent. No point playing him for thd final 3 games.

He’s 27, so it’ll be more like 7 or 8 years in the range of $200 million. You think Cohen won’t do some overpays to impress Mets fans?

I would expect Cohen to overpay for Realmoto.

I wonder how many players who are nicked up and have their batting averages up are going to sit the rest of the season, especially if they are on teams who have been eliminated. I noticed Simmons opted out of the rest of the season with his BA sitting near .300. Makes the baseball card look a whole lot better going into next year, especially for pending FA’s or arbitration eligible players. A bad week could tank their season and put them on the other end with no games to bring the numbers back up.

Shouldn’t this headline be….”Mets done for the season”. Why are they just singling out Conforto?
