Changes Made To Red Sox Coaching Staff

By TC Zencka | October 12, 2020 at 10:34am CDT

The Boston Red Sox announced a couple of changes to their coaching staff. Bench coach Jerry Narron and bullpen coach Craig Bjornson will not be returning in 2021, per WEEI’s Rob Bradford and others (via Twitter).

The Red Sox will bring in a new manager at some point this winter after announcing the dismissal of Ron Roenicke in September. Roenicke was promoted from bench coach when Alex Cora was fired following MLB’s investigation into the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. There have been rumblings that Cora could come back to resume his role as Red Sox manager, with MLB Insider Jon Heyman going so far as to say he is the favorite for the role.

In the meantime, many other members of the coaching staff appear to be returning in 2021 regardless of who takes the top job. Hitting coach Tim Hyers, assistant hitting coach Peter Fatse, pitching coach Dave Bush, assistant pitching coach Kevin Walker, third-base coach Carlos Febles, first-base coach Tom Goodwin, and coach Ramon Vazquez are all said to be returning, per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe (via Twitter). It’s still certainly possible that more changes could come whenever the manager role is filled.

Ha. Normally, I don’t care about grammar issues here and there, but a title should not be where one occurs lol.

This title is perfect as is! “Changes” is the subject / noun of this sentence “Changed” is a verb in the past tense which can not obviously be used here as the subject.. Enough said about correct grammar!

Jose – agree 100 percent! The people complaining about grammar were incorrect in their changes! Pun intended…

I hope Cora returns but it would not surprise me one bit if Bloom did not bring him back. I also wish the Brockstar would return, but I know that’s a pipe dream.

Yeah I think Cora deserves to come back and was prob the best fit for the Boston market next to Tito but Bloom prob wants to pick his own guy.
My worry is that the success of the Rays in the postseason is getting heavily attributed to Bloom which will give him more power to turn
the Sox into Tampa Bay North, so get ready for another Ivy League-like double talk egghead to manage the team.

I would love a Cora return. The team was so much more engaged with him at the helm, just fun to watch

I’m at the other end. Rehiring a cheater so soon sends the wrong message. I hope I’m wrong but with most coaches returning, he is coming back. If he wasn’t, the new manager would have “a little” input in his staff. Don’t you think?

I don’t think Bloom will get much credit for the Ray’s. That’s Silverman. Bloom hasn’t made impact moves with us yet.

Give Bloom a chance. Between the messes he inherited (financial) and had no control over (pandemic). He’s been in my view better than advertised although in fairness both ways, the sample sizes for everyone including Verdugo is small. Given everyone’s in the same boat, I actually like the person with the oars. And I was one of DD’s biggest supporters when he left.

Not with the money involved. Sox generate so much more revenue when they win and players have financial incentives to win. Big issue though is the overtaxation in the use of pitchers who play in October.

It would be horrible for the Red Sox to be like TB north. Imagine playing fundamental baseball with quality pitching and defense with a system loaded with talent. I only hope that the Angels become TB West.

Rick Renteria is now available for some reason. He brings the added plus of not having to change the monogram template.

If would be so typical of Red Sox to bring back the cheating scumbag Cora. He can help manage them to 4th place again.

I’m in the minority but I believe while he made some mistakes, much of what he did was authorized by ownership who I’ve lost a lot of respect for.

In Bloom we trust….8 of the top 20 prospects have been acquired since he arrived. Six of those by trade. He is building the team to sustain success and part of that is through controllability. I am sure he will pick an appropriate manager to go with the team he is building (highly, highly doubt it is Cora unless mandated by ownership)

If he doesn’t get to pick the coaches (with input from the manager normally), he has no say in the next manager either. Does anyone believe Cora is his choice?

He has say in his bench coach. The manager usually does not pick all of his own coaches.

        No way it’s Cora

Hiring Cora would taint anything and everything the team accomplishes. Give Bo Porter a call. At least interview him.

Bloom is doing a great job so far. It will an interesting pick for manager that’s for sure. The pitching needs a serious rebuilding and some is dependent on Sale and Erod returning to the rotation. The starters actually looked good at the end of the season. There’s a lot of work to do in the bullpen and a few questions in the lineup. This team has a much better future with Bloom.

The new Manager should be able to choose his coaching staff. If he wants to retain any of the coaches fine, if not than change them. Might be better to move on from Cora’s coaching staff anyway

Two words – Convicted Cheater. Cora, Hinch and Beltran should have been punished more severely for the magnitude of their crime and Cora doubled down by bringing it to Boston and lucked out that the Houston situation forced players to clam up so the truth will never be public.

Let Bloom start fresh with his own guy and let him be accountable for the future success of the team. That way if he stays or gets fired it’s because of things he’s done not directives from ownership.
