Brewers, Jace Peterson Agree To Minor League Deal

By Steve Adams | January 13, 2021 at 10:09am CDT

The Brewers are in agreement with utilityman Jace Peterson on a minor league contract, reports Adam McCalvy of MLB.com (via Twitter). The team has since announced the signing. Peterson, an ISE Baseball client, will be invited to Major League Spring Training.

Peterson, 30, spent the 2020 season with the Brewers organization as well, appearing in 26 games and tallying 61 plate appearances. He went just 9-for-45 in that time but also drew a whopping 15 walks and slugged a couple of home runs, resulting in a .200/.393/.356 batting line. Peterson saw time at second base, third base, first base and in both outfield corners with Milwaukee but was non-tendered earlier this winter.

The Brewers were Peterson’s fifth organization, and he’ll have the opportunity to earn a bench role with them once again in 2021. He becomes the second utility option added by Milwaukee in as many days after yesterday’s signing of Daniel Robertson to a non-guaranteed, Major League contract. Peterson is a career .227/.317/.331 hitter in just shy of 1700 plate appearances split between the Braves, Orioles, Padres, Yankees and Brewers.

No he doesn’t. He just can’t get anyone to laugh at him or give him attention in real life. So he wants someone on here to say “gosh you are so funny”. But no one ever does. Because no one cares, and it’s never funny.

He’s not a kid, he’s a highly educated, 48yr old male stripper from Shanghai who came to this country in search of a better life for him & his two Shetland ponies. I should know since we go crayfish hunting together at least a twice a month. Sure he’s a little off -who isn’t – but you should see him in a thong, Wowzer!!

More quantity than quality from Stearns and company

There is a lot of uncertainty about the season and things are slow rolling for most teams not in San Diego. My hope is Stearns has some “quality” FA and trade targets in sight. In the meantime he is adding some pieces they need.

Brewers loving the utilities guys . How about working on the pitching ?

The problem really isn’t the pitching. They have Burnes and Woodruff coming back. They also have guys like Adrian Houser, Freddy Perelta, and Eric Lauer. These guys might see the rotation. I expect the Brewers to get a cheap pitcher though. As for the bullpen, they have had one of the best bullpens for a while. They have no names pitching and they have career years. They have Devin Williams and Josh Hader both coming back which would be a tough 1 2 punch.

The pitching isn’t horrible on paper if guys stay healthy. Could still use another starter of course, but the pitching market hasn’t even begun to take shape. They obviously won’t get Bauer, and the next tier of pitchers all seem to be waiting on that pin to fall before moving forward.

At least Stearns isn’t overpaying guys like last offseason. Too bad he’s wasting another year of Yelich and good pitching. Only thing that will save the Brewers is the weakening of the AL Central. Quite possibly the weakest division in recent memory.

At least to me, but it seems like every team in the NL Central is purposely tanking. Stupidly (maybe) I like the signing of Jace Peterson, as long as the Brewers use him as a utility guy and not give him too many starts. He’s capable of playing multiple positions, though not at the same time. And he did walk 15 times in 61 PA’s for the Brew Crew in ’20. So, there is that! And with the Braves in 2015 Peterson found his to the plate for 528 AB. He did score 55 runs with 52 RBI, 56 walks, 13 SB (12 CS), and a .649 OPS. He also stole 13 bags for the O’s in 2018. Not to forget, it’s a minor league deal.
