Orioles Re-Sign Wade LeBlanc To Minor League Contract

By Connor Byrne | February 2, 2021 at 8:42pm CDT

The Orioles have re-signed left-hander Wade LeBlanc to a minor league contract with an invitation to MLB camp, Jon Morosi of MLB.com tweets. LeBlanc will earn a $700K salary if he makes it to the majors this year.

The Orioles signed LeBlanc to a minors pact last offseason, and while he did ultimately earn a roster spot, he didn’t perform especially well or stay healthy. The journeyman ended up posting an 8.06 ERA/5.77 SIERA in 22 1/3 innings and six starts. LeBlanc’s season concluded near the end of August because of a stress fracture in his pitching elbow.

Although the soft-tossing LeBlanc wasn’t effective in 2020, Baltimore is still willing to take a low-risk chance on him again. The 36-year-old swingman does own a useful 4.55 ERA in 882 1/3 innings since he debuted in 2008, and the Orioles could use a veteran option – particularly if their potential Alex Cobb trade with the Angels goes through.

Oh the Orioles idea of veteran leadership….. Marvelous

They do very much need a veteran and guys like Milone and LeBlanc hardly seem capable of filling the void—certainly not for a full season.

I like the Cobb trade but it’s too early to lean on the young pitching talent.

Have to give the guy credit. 13 year MLB career is an accomplishment. Wonder if there is anyone else in the league who as played as long but w/ at little MLB results?

“Orioles Just Suck” would also have been an acceptable headline for this particular bit of confirmatory news.

That’s pretty funny. Have you considered a career in comedy?

If he makes the team , will be the highest paid player on Orioles without the last name Davis

Might as well let Chris Davis do some pitching this year.

        Mancini 4.75 mil
Santander either 2.1 or 2.5 arbitration
        Severino 1.8
        Galvis 1.5
        Trumbo 1.5
        O’Day 1.5
        Cashner 1.0

I remember him with the Pads. Loved the guy. When he’s on he’ll go deep into games with deceptive stuff.

Cobb’s replacement. If he’s healthy he is in the Orioles opening day rotation

Lot of people bad mouthing every Orioles offseason move. Granted this is not the signing I would have liked also but Leblanc is not getting paid for wins but leadership. The Orioles are banking on their young arms.

Yes they might win only 70 to 75 games this year but they are trying to find out exactly what they have and haven’t.

The Orioles were very competitive last year and a lot of teams didn’t want to play them. Plus they didn’t finish last in their division.
