Does Adams have any idea of the Cubs roster – or what players have earned a spot on it, next year. For him to say ‘there are always some 1B and 2B that squeeze through’, just makes no sense. The Cubs have Madrigal and Hoerner to fill 2B, and Frank Schwindel has earned the expectation of starting 2022 as the 1B starter.
It’s the other side of the infield that needs help.

Schwindel might not be able to repeat his success. Same with Wisdom and Ortega. Cubs should definitely pick up a cheap 1B as as Plan B, along with options for the others.
Hopefully, they’ll spend big on pitching, and pick up some cheap understudies fo the (maybe) 4A players.

If you think guys like Frank the Tank should be penciled in as starters next year, then you haven’t been paying attention. In fact the Cubs have had guys in that 28 – 30 age range that have looked great for short stretches and then failed. Lahair says hello.

How many more seasons do the Angels have to go without making the playoffs before Mike Trout finally requests a trade?
cards81
I think the Angels should trade Trout and Ohtani and lose a couple years and stock that farm and then spend big on pitching or whatever need
rememberthecoop
No – they just need to find some damn pitching! I know it’s easier said than done; but cmon now, how man years have we been saying that? Meanwhile, guys like Flexen, Rodon and Gausman keep getting signed and succeeding. It can be done. But you need depth too.
Rsox
I don’t think he does. He’s been with the Angels far long enough, he signed his contract full well knowing what they are and how they operate.
The Hall of Fame is full of players that stayed with one team their whole career and never won a championship.

Why is Wheeler deserving of more love “after a shortened pandemic season” than anyone else having a great year this year? Was his pandemic shortened season shorter than everyone else’s? Sounds like Mets22
Jean Matrac
You’ve obviously misunderstood. They’re talking about the toll of a full 2021 season after the short 2020 pandemic season. In case you hadn’t noticed, the full season, on the heels of a shortened one, has produced unprecedented levels of injuries and IL stints.
Steve was giving deserved credit to Wheeler for his big lead in IP, which he explained is even more valuable now since most pitchers aren’t making it through this full season. Being 1st in WAR, and Ks, as well as being there for his scheduled starts, eating innings, makes him worthy of CY consideration.
Phanatic 2022
I didn’t misunderstand. Read the question again than answer mine: why is WHEELER more more deserving of love for having a Great season after a shortened 2020 season than anybody else having a great season? Did everyone else secretly play 162 games to Wheelers 60?
Jean Matrac
Well, yes you did misunderstand. Your question: “why is WHEELER more more (sic) deserving…” shows that you didn’t understand. No one said Wheeler was “more deserving”.
What was said was that Wheeler deserves recognition for his numbers, being first in IPs, WAR, and Ks, plus his durability. He also has a 2.78 ERA, and a 149 ERA+. This is in the context of Wheeler probably not getting CY consideration.
He’s thrown 48 more innings than Burnes, 34 more than Scherzer and Woodruff. Buehler also made all his starts and threw only about 11 innings fewer, but he will get more CY consideration than Wheeler.
Wheeler deserves recognition for having a great year, which was a trying one for all pitchers, because that recognition won’t be shown in the awards. It’s like you were trying hard to find something to complain about, when all it was about was showing appreciation for a guy’s great year.

“they have to convince teams they are ready to win right now” Or, just offer the most $$ / # years.

Thought Steve’s assessment of the 2022 Guardians was off. He listed Ramirez and five pitchers. Sure good pitching beats good hitters but if you have only two or three good bats in the lineup the team will lose more than win.
Rsox
Ramirez, Franmil Reyes, and Bobby Bradley are decent 3-5 in the lineup. Rosario has been solid but i wonder if they trade him and let Gimenez play SS. The OF still needs work. Straw, Mercado, Zimmer, and Harold Ramirez are all basically 4th Outfielders playing everyday, this lineup could use a big OF bat
