Twins catcher Jose Godoy has cleared waivers and been assigned to Triple-A. The 27-year-old made his Major League debut last season with the Mariners, stepping to the plate 40 times and posting a .162/.225/.189 line. Of course, a catcher’s contribution to a club can hardly to counted solely through a batting line. Gary Sanchez and Ryan Jeffers figure to handle the bulk of the catching responsibilities in Minnesota, but Godoy will compete with Chance Sisco, David Banuelos, and Stevie Berman to be the first call-up. Elsewhere around the sport…
- Micker Adolfo has cleared waivers and been assigned to Triple-A Charlotte, per the White Sox. It’s just a little surprising that Adolfo wasn’t claimed, as there was thought to be some interest in the powerful righty bat. Adolfo displayed his typical power swing last year, slashing .245/.311/.520 in 405 plate appearances between Double-and-Triple-A. Health has been a bugaboo for Aldofo, so he will aim to stay in the lineup this year in Triple-A while awaiting an opportunity with the big league club.
- Eduard Bazardo has cleared waivers after being outrighted to Triple-A, per the Red Sox. The 26-year-old appeared in two games for the Red Sox last season, and he’ll head to Triple-A to serve as bullpen depth. Like Adolfo, Bazardo has been stung with the injury bug in recent years, dealing with a lat strain that shut him down for much of last season.

Glad Adolfo stayed.

I’d be curious to see if he was part of any possible dialog with the A’s or some other club (if there actually was any). With that being said, I’m glad that we didn’t lose him for nothing. He could still be a part of the WS outfield moving forward, but I certainly don’t want to be a jynx with the injury bugs that we’ve already had. With an already crowded outfield picture, I just don’t see a longterm fit for him though, especially with Cespedes waiting in the wings.
I think the best bet would be that he builds enough appeal heading towards the trade deadline. He can then be a part of a big deal to bolster the team for their playoff push.

Have to trade somebody, they have Cespedes, Oscar Colas and Adolfo in the minors, have Rutherford and Haseley too, both first round picks.
I think Rutherford is going to put it together this year.
Don’t know how any of them supplant Jimenez or Robert, and I don’t see how you can trade Vaughn. Pollock is off to a good start but that trade didn’t make any sense.
Letting Rodon go, what a screw up that was after trading Madrigal. Then you trade Zach Collins another mistake in my opinion.
Don’t know what the hell this guy is doing in the front office lately, he has made some epic bad trades. I think he is a damn mole from the Northside. It’s a conspiracy to destroy what could have been a multi year White Sox dynasty.
PutPeteinthehall
Rodon is someone waiting for his arm to fall off. He’s rested up and will throw for a few months before it happens. Glad they did not retain him. And as far as trades go you want to trade from the 30th ranked farm system. Good luck with that. How is Micker trade bait when he could have been claimed by the other 29 teams?
You Can Put It In The Books
This. Micker isn’t worth anything other than a throw-in after clearing waivers. It will be Cespedes and/or Colas or nobody will be trading with them.
bitteroldman
all you have to do is watch Sunday’s game and the performance behind the plate of Reese McGuire to realize that trading Collins was not a mistake. Collins is a bat looking for a position,
Palehosed85
McGuire did exactly what he was brought over to do, catch. He handled the pitching staff well and even caught Meadows stealing. He also scored a run. Collins is hardly sound defensively and, he just isn’t very good offensively either. It’s both amusing and sad that there are people that still think he’s got this dynamo-type potential, waiting to be unlocked. The Sox got tired of waiting as anyone in a results-driven business should. He hasn’t even appeared in a game yet for Toronto, so that shows that the Palehose weren’t alone in how they viewed him. I’ll take a defense-first catcher any day.
bwmiller
Their farm system is underrated if you ask me, Vera, Cespedes and Rodriguez all had good years.
Rodon had shoulder fatigue last season, he hasn’t pitched a full season since 2016 and is only 29 years old, it makes sense to me that he’d have some fatigue but his arm don’t have a lot of innings on it, he’ll get stronger and won’t hit the wall like he did last season.
bwmiller
I didn’t see Reese McGuire behind the plate but Collins was a serviceable catcher behind Grandal but fair point to prioritize defense when you have the bats the Sox have in the lineup. I’d start Yermin at catcher, he hits a ton and can catch the ball 99% of the time.
#1WhiteSoxFan
Reese is now Michael Kopech’s personal catcher.
socalsoxfan78
Collins sucks. He’s not coachable, cannot/will not get rid of his hitch, and cannot hit fastballs with authority. He lost so many strikes for Sox pitching too last year. I’m glad he’s gone. Good riddance.
Prunella Vulgaris
Thank goodness. I want to see what Adolfo is capable of in the majors. Next time an outfielder is injured, I hope they give him a chance.
drtymike0509
Suprised he cleared. Had good numbers pre-covid, limited the long ball.

*Bazardo

Did you use bugaboo in writing? That’s amazing
Aaron Sapoznik
I’m very surprised and happy the White Sox were able to retain Micker Adolfo, at least for now. I was certain he would either be traded or claimed following his DFA, something that could still occur. Adolfo also gives the White Sox a solid insurance option at AAA in case of an injury to any of their outfielders.
xfloydsterx
Is anyone else dying to see bazardo and luzardo pitch against each other?
ohyeadam
I thought with expanded rosters Godoy, or maybe even Sisco, might get a chance due to Sanchez not being much of a catcher
The Einheri
Glad to see that Jose Godoy cleared. I suspect the Twins will need him this season.
Dorothy_Mantooth
Boston was lucky that Bazardo cleared waivers. Unless he has a long term injury, I’d expect Bazardo to contribute to the major league roster sometime this season. This just makes it a little more difficult to promote him.
Jeff Zanghi
Yes, this seems odd to me. even the fact the designated him in the first place. However he apparently hasn’t been Pitching lately so maybe there is some injury or personal issue going on that hasn’t been publicly announce yet but explains this situation. Going into spring training… he was expected to, at some point this season, be a candidate for ‘high leverage’ relief innings. So seems strange he’s fallen so far unless there’s something else to it.
JoeBrady
It feels like the lack of a 2020 minor league season screwed up plans for a lot of the AAAA types. I thought he’d make our BP out of ST, but we have a fair amount of AAAA RPs.
positively_broad_st
Timing is everything. Adolfo cleared because OD rosters were set and no major injuries occurred where a team could move a player to the 60 Day IL. Only way to add him would be to cut someone, and that generally doesn’t happen in the first week of the season…
You Can Put It In The Books
Or, he’s just not that good.
msqboxer
You are absolutely correct…there is a reason why they did this move at that time. Other teams were handcuffed.
Jacksson13
The mere fact that Eduard was able to clear waivers is BAZARDO !!
BeansforJesus
I know I said Adolfo was Soler Jr pre-spring training, and I still feel that way. But, how could a team not claim him after that spring?
That profile still plays and “it’s free real estate”
Kelly Wunsch N' Munch
Surprised no one took a flyer on Adolfo. His strikeout rate is horrendous to be fair. Glad he cleared waivers though. Maybe his trials and tribulations throughout all these years can pay off. He still has elite power, and a great arm.
Carlos May's Thumb
Best of luck and more importantly good health to Miker. The kids unfortunate bad luck (injuries) is what really hurt him over the years. Now the Sox have too much talent to make room for him.
sportingdissent
I’m surprised a non-contender wouldn’t give Adolfo a flyer.
Idioms for Idiots
I am stunned that Adolfo didn’t get claimed. I can’t believe that teams like the O’s and Pirates are so loaded in the OF that they wouldn’t take a flyer on Adolfo. I’m glad they didn’t.
No idea if Adolfo will ever amount to anything, but I’d rather he bust for the Sox than finally figuring it out and take off like a rocket with another team, with nothing to show in return for the Sox.
