I wonder if the balanced schedule hurts the Cards next year, as they won’t be feasting on the Pirates, Reds and Cubs. Don’t get me wrong, the NLC has been great in the past, but 2022 was pretty ugly.

@ Von NLC and ALC will face tougher schedules in 2023, but I’m not sure strategy changes, win the division and get a 3 seed. Just play better than your division rivals ……congrats on the Phils, amazing!

First off, thank you kindly Wampum. And good points.

It seems odd that divisions are still a thing with the new schedule. With a balanced schedule technically they can just pick the best records. I always thought division winners were a bit silly when the division was really bad. Not picking on the NLC here. The 2021 NLE was awful.

Anyway, I fully expect the Cards to be in the thick of it like always. Lots of talent even with the old guard moving on.

Question for STL fans: If SD shopped Tatis, would you guys want him?

Every team would want him… at what cost is the question.

I’ll answer for them because they are simple people. No. They will come up with a bounty of excuses just like they did when the discussion was signing Machado and Harper. In those excuses are clubhouse guys, too much money, blah blah blah. They only like the scrappy white guys in St Louis

That’s just wrong! His Dad played for the Cardinals. Why wouldn’t they want him?

Yeah, because Pujols and Molina were such scrappy white guys. Same with Ozzie Smith, Lou Brock, and Bob Gibson. Come on dude.

Or, maybe, we wouldn’t be interested in a dude coming off of a PED suspension? Pretty reasonable to me.

A SS coming off a PED suspension and landing with the cardinals seems familiar. Hmm. Let me think. Oh yeah, Jhonny Peralta

Since when has Yepez, Molna, Pujols, Cabrerra, Gallegos, Quintana, Reyes, Herrera been white?

Nope. The balance of talent vs. cost/headaches doesn’t work.

The National League Central was the weakest division, and the American League Central was the weakest division, so both division winners (STL & Cleveland) knocked out in first round of playoffs without a win between both of them. No big surprise imo

Cleveland won the wild card round 2 games to none over Tampa Bay. They lost round 2 3 game to 2. to New York. Your comment is just very incorrect.

Need a catcher?! Looks like Carson Kelly is on the outs in Arizona. Bring him back?

I’d say that’s far more likely than Contreras or Murphy. I still like Omar Narvaez, but they could actually sign both and let them battle it out in the spring with Knizner.

Omar and Carson. Hmm. One bats left, the other right. Both are kinda at super sub status just a hare below everyday in their careers. And it looks like under 10 mil gets ya both. Interesting.

Liked the pitch clock question. Because, personally, don’t like it. Don’t like any of these rule changes that artificially speed up the game. Quality not length of game is why I watch. Love watching the gamesmanship between a hitter and pitcher in between each pitch. Strategery at it’s purest. The game within the game. Bummed to see it going away.

Actually speeding up the game was only one of the desired outcomes of the pitch clock, and arguably not the most important one. The bigger one (imo) is the reduced recovery time for max-effort high velocity pitchers, especially relievers. It’s going to become much harder to go out there and fire 99 for 20 pitches if your time between pitches is a couple seconds shorter. If you watch the minor leagues where they had the clock this year, it was very noticeable. Max-out relievers were rare and there were a lot of late big innings. Makes for much more exciting baseball.

The decline of this franchise is imminent. Weak farm system, best two players were developed by other teams, two other best were fossils that are now retired. They haven’t been able to hack into any other team’s database lately, and they traded their best outfielder to the Yankees. An inability to develop their own stars is showing. Flaherty can’t wait to get out of town. Decline on the way

I’m excited for Joshua Beaz… Juan Yepez… Nolan Gorman… and have you heard the sound the ball makes when it comes off Jordan Walkers bat? They have a talented young core on its way, the question is will they develop or swing trades for starting pitching to supplement it? Flaherty has really been almost a let down since 2019? Health issues have kept him from showing tjat dominate form we saw in the second half of 2019. Yeah maybe decline is on its way? The Cardinals had a really good run from 2000-2015

The Cardinals farm system is trending upwards, not downwards. They are ranked the highest they’ve been since 2016 and the expectation is they move into the top ten as early as next year. They have SIX top 100 prospects, including Walker who is already being tabbed as a bonafide star. They have the money to address the holes in their roster left with Molina/Pujols retirements.

Is a decline possible? Yes, prospects don’t pan out and stars get injured all of the time. But imminent? It’s much more likely they continue to land at the top of the Central for years to come.
