The White Sox announced to reporters, including Scott Merkin of MLB.com, that they have outrighted right-hander Kyle Crick and outfielder Adam Haseley to Triple-A Charlotte.
Crick, turning 30 this month, has appeared in each of the past six seasons. He broke into the majors with the Giants before spending a few years with the Pirates. He signed a minor league deal with the White Sox and cracked the Opening Day roster here in 2022. He was optioned and recalled several times over the first few months of the season, throwing 15 2/3 MLB innings with a 4.02 ERA along with a 2.70 ERA in 6 2/3 Triple-A frames.
He was placed on the injured list in June with right elbow inflammation, eventually getting transferred to the 60-day IL and finishing the season there. Since there’s no injured list between the World Series and Spring Training, Crick would soon need to retake his roster spot. But it seems the White Sox put him on waivers instead, without Crick getting claimed. He has more than three years of MLB service time and therefore has the right to reject this outright assignment in favor of free agency.
Haseley, 26, was a first round draft pick of the Phillies back in 2017. He got scattered time in the big leagues starting in 2019 but never clicked and was traded to the White Sox prior to the 2022 season. He only got into 14 big league games for Chicago this year, spending most of his time in Triple-A. In 110 games for the Charlotte Knights, he hit just .239/.305/.411, wRC+ of 88. He should stick around the organization as outfield depth but without occupying a spot on the 40-man.
As mentioned earlier, the IL will soon go away until Spring Training rolls around again, meaning each team will see certain players added back to their 40-man roster. In addition to that, the deadline to add players in order to protect them from being selected in the Rule 5 draft is coming up on November 15. Given those factors, each team might have to make some tough choices by making cuts around the edges of their rosters, with Crick and Haseley apparently making up two of those for the Sox.

They won’t be missed. it’s nice to see Grifol not wasting any time putting his stamp on the 40 man roster.
John Kappel
Grifol does not make these decisions, Rick Hahn does.
avenger65
they make player decisions in conjunction with each other. Grifol might not want a player but Hahn will let him know the options: time left on contract, if there’s a player in the minors that could take that player’s spot for less money, things like that. If it was Hahn wanted a player back and Grifol didn’t, I’m sure they would come to a compromise.

Some people have no clue as to how baseball decisions are made and by who makes them

As a courtesy, at least… I am sure Grifol has some input so Hahn can later blame someone else if the roster moves don’t pan out .

Good news for Kyle. He is FOREVER GIANT

hahaha I’m sure there are fond memories. Him and Bryan Reynolds helped get the Giants half a year of McCutchen.

Cricks the one who punched that pedo right? Good Guy Crick

Just the beginning of a major roster churn. The White Sox need to activate all of their players on the 60-day IL and reinstate them to the 40-man roster (or not). They also need to decide which of their eligible prospects warrant protection from the Rule 5 Draft and then add them to the 40-man. Lastly, the front office will want a spot or three open for any potential free agents their frugal owner might allow them to sign above and beyond those they will be losing this offseason.
Samuel
Got a realistic trade for you Aaron.
Sox and Marlins……..
Marlins get Tim Anderson and Adam Engel.
Sox get Pablo Lopez and Miguel Rojas.
–
Sox dump Anderson – his attitude and poor defense. Replace that with a solid MLB defensive SS that has a few more years left. Get a solid TOR pitcher for 2 years that hopefully they’ll extend.
Marlins get an offensive lead-off hitter and have to live with his defense. (They want offense back for pitching; Anderson’s hot dogging will go over well in Miami.) While they aren’t getting hitting back in CF they’re getting a ball hawk that’s better than anything they have, and they can return the guys they’ve been playing out of position in CF to corner OF’s where they belong (LF, RF, DH) – they’ll get increased offense from this guys as they settle in.
Each team may want to add a player if they feel it’s a bit uneven. But again, the money will be bit higher for the Marlins which they can afford. The Sox begin to get their payroll down, and move in the right direction – better D, more discipline, more pitching.
Opens up both teams for more off-season moves.

That’s an interesting proposal. I like Tim Anderson but I don’t think he’s irreplaceable and Lopez would be a great addition to the rotation, especially if they can sign him long term.

I agree that the Sox match up with the Marlins but don’t agree with your suggested players. I think it’s going to be Vaughn for left handed pitching. The deal could be expanded. They are cheap so I don’t think they want to pay Anderson.
Aaron Sapoznik
The White Sox and Marlins seem to be a good fit for many potential trades. Your proposal could work.
A trade involving a White Sox Cuban national or three might also be something the Marlins might want to pursue to augment their roster AND for marketing purposes. At this point, I’d listen to the fish front office on any proposal that excluded Luis Robert and Oscar Colas.

If you can sign Andrus to a team friendly 1 year deal, trading Anderson isn’t out of the question with Montgomery a possible call up in ’24.
But I like TA, I think he is an important part of the team, one of the team captains – unsure if Pablo Lopez is the right guy, now Sixto Sanchez might open up talks. I’d make the trade if it was Luzardo or Sanchez.
realsox
What’s wrong with Anderson’s attitude, Samuel?
avenger65
why would the Sox trade Vaughn? he’s their best hr/rbi man. and, according to Hof Jim Thome who has worked Vaughn the last two years, he’s going to get even better.
Dumpster Divin Theo
Samuel just making chit up as usual. TA is one of the team leaders, a fan favorite and uniformly positive. Also has been clutch in the postseason.
avenger65
the Sox signing free agents? that’s a good joke.

Those 2 were obvious moves.
No news yet.

A pair of former first round picks, Haseley was a top ten pick, and he had a good year last year.
Haseley stole close to 20 bases so he has some speed which always plays well in the outfield.
He ain’t ripping the cover off the ball but he has a little power too. Haseley might not be Mike Trout but he could be Christian Yelich, who hit .250/.350 with 15 HRs and 20 SBs. Nobody is sending Yelich to the minors.
Haseley is five years younger.
Crick, in a small sample size, had his best season to date, sinker / slider pitcher, could still have some potential to develop.
Uncertain about their rule 5 status, assuming since both are not on the 40 man roster that both will be eligible to be drafted, which is a mistake when it comes to Haseley. I’d waive Engel before I let Haseley walk.

Please explain:
WHY is there no injured list between the World Series and Spring Training?
Do player injuries go away AFTER the World Series and reappear at the beginning of Spring Training?:
Seems like a moronic, antiquated, short-sighted system that would encourage players to try to return from injuries too soon, just to ensure they have a roster spot.
cjb1125
Wait, are you serious? If this wasn’t a rule teams would just add as many players as they wanted to in the offseason and put their whole roster on the 60 day IL – not like they’re missing any games…
Y2KAK
Do you are is dumb @Jacksson13

Kinda hope the Brewers will pick up Crick. I think they have room for him once they take off the free agents off the 40 man

“The White Sox announced to reporters, including Scott Merkin of MLB.com…”
Announced it to them where? Did they call a press conference for these moves?
Aaron Sapoznik
Perhaps they issued a heads-up press release to the Chicago beat writers. I’ve yet to see a press release or transaction listed on their MLB website as of this post. Press releases and transaction listings on mlb.com/whitesox typically lag well behind any actual ‘breaking’ news.

Crick pitched well when healthy. Haseley may be a late bloomer. . Neither making any money. Dont see the point in dumping them.
Backup Catcher to the Backup Catcher
Saw Haseley play in Reading in 2019. That night, the #8 overall pick in the 2017 draft, looked like the best player on the field for either side (Harrisburg). Not sure what happened to him after that, and never did find out what personal issues forced him to take a sabbatical. But I guess that’s why they call them “Personal issues”.
Would be a nice feel-good story in 2023 if he got a chance. JMHO, but going forward, I suspect he won’t be part of the ChiSox, so that aforementioned chance will have to come with another team. I could see a place for him with the Royals, and if the Brewers are still searching for a CF when ST opens up, Haseley might be a nice fit there.

So I was waiting in line to get food at Maxwell street depot in Bridgeport. Had a taste for a pork chop sandwich which can be very tasty. So as I’m waiting to place my order, I glanced at the guy behind me and it’s Kyle Crick ! So we engage in small talk about baseball and as I’m about to leave he asked if Maxwells was hiring. True story . I didn’t know this but apparently J.J. Putz, Brent Lillibridge, and Mark Teahen moonlight here on the weekends. So autograph seekers here you go! You heard it here first ! By the way the pork chop sandwich had too many onions on it this time
