Marlins need proven young bats. Anyone open to a trade/blockbuster?
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Let me pretend to be Chris Young. Duran, Smith, maybe 2 of Leiter/Rocker/Porter, Garcia, Tavares, Huff, Owen White/Cole Winn, and Blaine Crim for Alcantara. Or, Tavares, Dunning, Duran, Huff, and maybe Orneleas for Lopez. If they blow away Miami, I am sure Miami trades him. Texas may want some outfielders, though. Obviously, some of the value has to come from pitching here and not just bats. I consider Garcia a proven bat.

Why would the Rangers empty their farm system for a starting pitcher ehen they too need another bat (preferably a LF)?
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Long term, they don’t have too many good controllable aces.
Rsox
Maybe but it would seem like giving up on Leiter and Rocker too soon
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
They have potential for sure. I just don’t trust the Rangers to develop pitchers. This guy Kip Fa + gg is in charge of player development, and he sucks big time. As long as that fool is still here, I’d assume pitchers have half the potential value to Texas as they do to other organizations. Thus, the trade suggestion.

Oriole’s Mountcastle to the Fish? Young with power; had an off year in 22. IMHO, his launch angle swing with violent bat speed approach to hitting doesn’t jive with the new deeper left field fence dimension. Needs a change of scenery?
Lopez for him straight up? If Ng insists on more, Elias goes with a top 30 org prospect not top 10?
Caveat: If Boras doesn’t throw a fit, get the 6’3″ Henderson a 1st baseman mit and get this HITTER a full season of at bats. Cheers
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Given their outlandish ask for Pablo Lopez, they would likely want way more than Mountcastle. Maybe Mullins or Adley would suffice. Other than that, the Yankees were scared away by their absurd ask.
In Seager/Hader We Trust > the 70 MM DH Ohtani
Or, how about all 4 of Leiter, Rocker, Porter, and Owen White and maybe deal some for hitting. Maybe even add in Cole Winn if needed for maybe some $ going to Texas. It may be a more creative approach to getting him. I mean all 5 either were or are top 100 prospects, except for Rocker, who is very close to it.

Getting the likes of an Alcantara (really possible?) for any prospect package will not upset Chris Young’s former boss / current underling.
Bochy is not there for the long haul. Win now. There are some pieces in place but not enough.

When did Jon Daniel’s start working under Chris Young? I saw JD signed with Tampa Bay.
Rsox
Someone mentioned the Padres DH situation and I’m surprised Anthony forgot to mention they signed Matt Carpenter, who most likely takes the lions share of DH AB’s next season
Longtimecoming
At this point MC is probably slotted into 1B more than DH. You are correct thst they should have mentioned him in the reply though. It could change with a possible Mancini signing and then yeah, MC probably gets the most DH ABs of anyone.
Rsox
Unless Kim is traded Cronenworth likely slots in at 1B more often than not. However both Carpenter and Cronenworth could see time in the OF while Tatis finishes serving his suspension
Pads Fans
Azocar will get most of those starts. Tatis is back 4/20.
Longtimecoming
Or Dahl – don’t forget him and Dixon and Batten.
Pads Fans
Dahl isn’t on the 40 man roster, so barring an outstanding spring, I would think Azocar gets another shot at starting those 17 games.
Longtimecoming
Yeah but there is ST where a lot of guys get a shot and there is an extra 40 spot currently.
I don’t think Azocar has the 20 games in the bag is all I’m saying. A hot ST by a guy with some pop can easily override what Azocar has to offer.
If none take a step then yeah, I’d say Azocar will hold down the spot for 20 games.
Then there is that Profar guy still unsigned thst could come back!
Pads Fans
Carpenter was signed to be the DH with Cronenworth slotted in at 1B. Unless Kim or Cronenworth is traded, and you can never count that possibility out with Preller, then Carpenter will get most of his PA at DH.
Longtimecoming
Disagree but yes, Cro will play some 1B and yes, he has played well there. That said, Kim will play almost everyday until Tatis comes back by keeping everyone fresh in infield.
Yes, Kim could be traded but playing 4 days a week – at SS, 3B, 2B and DH keeps everyone fresh and active at the same time.
Could also be a little platoon at 1b factoring into the mix.
This one belongs to the Reds
I guess if he is traded, that answers the question “how much is the Cronenworth?”
Longtimecoming
Yeah there are rumors but at the salary comparison I’d trade Kim – he is GG caliber SS and improving with bat.
Boston wants to trade Sale and needs SS so, there is that out there.
Pads Fans
If the Red Sox wanted to include Sale in a trade for Kim they would have to give all 3 of Mayer, Rafaela and Casas. 🙂
Pads Fans
Kim will play everyday. So will Bogaerts. So will Cronenworth who plays GG caliber defense at 1B.
Longtimecoming
Works for me. I’m not pushing for a Kim trade just saying he could be a 7 mil surplus SS as of opening day and even more so as of 4/20. I like him and won’t mind him staying.
How about this: how long can Preller go without making a trade?
Longtimecoming
Don’t move a GG caliber 2b over to 1b just because.
You can find a Matt Carpenter or Voit or Mancini to play 1B.
With no shift Cro at 2B will be even more needed.
Longtimecoming
I said Kim will play – just not at some position every day – revolving door at DH with an infielder getting a DH rest everyday.
Brew’88
Even with Tatis playing every day in RF (big if),I think the present Padre roster is thin, including the IF. Is Grisham and his .184 BA really everyday in CF? Is Crone a 1b bat? Kim at 2B, Bogaerts at SS and Crone at 1b isn’t necessarily an improvement defensively. MC helps some at 1b but will most likely slot in at DH because there are no other DH bats of quality. If they really are going to roll with Azocar/Dixon/Batten then well, that’s a weak inexperienced group.
I was expecting them to add another flex guy, a vet who is mainly an OF who can also play 1b
Longtimecoming
Brew – that player sounds like Profar at this point and I picked him to return. Wouldn’t be surprised at all.
No they don’t have a traditional DH but the idea that Kim rotates between 3b, SS, 2b 3-4 times a week allows Manny, Bog, Cro and then MC with a Cro at 1b does work.
Brew’88
@ longtime. I’ve heard that Profar doesn’t want to come back if he doesn’t start (presumably in LF), and he’s likely to get offers from other teams to start.
Longtimecoming
I’d say you are correct as to his preference to start. Now, I haven’t seen his name linked to any team really, maybe NYY who needs a LF improvement bad. No, I don’t think he is starting beyond 4/20/23 on Padres.
I prefer to let him go elsewhere and spend the same /approx money on Wacha or Cueto personally.
He wasn’t bad last year and I was in his camp but a WS team needs a better LFer when Grisham isn’t producing in CF.
Preller does love him though.
Brew’88
Agreed on priorities. As much as they could use a veteran OF, they could use another good SP more.
Champs64
I could see Carpenter having a good season as DH with the ending of the defensive shift and batting behind the meat of the order. Though not a Padres fan I wish him well.
PhanaticDuck26
For Yanks LF:
“I’d guess a veteran stopgap type like David Peralta or Ben Gamel”
Gamel would be nice, but he’d probably late to spring training as it would take him four months to shave off all that hair.
Rsox
Peralta makes sense for the Yankees. Granted he did not hit after being traded to the Rays last season but as a LH hitter he would probably thrive at Yankee Stadium (he is 7-26 in his career there against the Yankees)
Joe says...
If he could be had on a two year deal (preferably one year) I’d rather have Profar than Peralta.
Longtimecoming
Profar had 1 year left on his deal for 10 (I think it was). He opted out to get at least a 2 year deal maybe 20. With his production in 2022 as a guide he justified that ask whether you want him or an upgrade is the question.
I actually just commented above that NYY is the best fit / likely landing spot for him with a possible return to SD as a back up.

It appears the Cardinals Front Office and Ownership are falling extremely short of the statement they were increase payroll & build with impact players toward a National League Championship.
Either Ownership won’t spend the money it takes, or either their Front office can’t handle that task.

Welcome to the club. Seems to be an NL Central thing.

17dizzy;
Trades can happen, but I’ve never been big on Mo…in fact, stopped watching the Cardinals because of him.
I may turn out to be wrong, but feel the Cards can be had in 2023….no matter what additional moves they make. Yadi and Albert are going to be missed; and that pitching staff – which is not that good to begin with – is going to find it tough going without Yadi…..made even worse by who they brought in to replace him. And I think the manager’s over his head as well.
The Cubs and Brewers both have a real shot at the NL Central this year.
Champs64
Dizzy, MO approaches free agency like someone who was snake bit and entering the reptile house at the zoo.

Dude thinks Reds not getting Cueto (or Wacha). Hope he’s wrong. Payroll ridiculous at this point.
