KBO’s NC Dinos Sign Logan Allen

By Steve Adams | December 18, 2024 at 10:04am CDT

The NC Dinos of the Korea Baseball Organization announced Wednesday that they’ve signed left-hander Logan S. Allen (not to be confused with current Guardians lefty Logan T. Allen) to a one-year contract (hat tip: Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net). Allen is represented by Roc Nation Sports. He’ll be guaranteed $700K between his salary and signing bonus, and he can earn another $300K worth of incentives.

It’ll be the first stint overseas for the 27-year-old Allen — a former top prospect who’s now bounced to seven different MLB organizations in his career, appearing in the majors with four of them. Allen spent the 2024 season with the Diamondbacks, pitching 28 innings of 5.46 ERA ball in the majors and adding another 96 1/3 frames at the Triple-A level.

Allen breezed through the lower minors and had a terrific season between Double-A and Triple-A as a 21-year-old back in 2018, but his results both in the majors and in Triple-A have generally been subpar since that time. He altered his repertoire this past season, however, debuting a new splitter that seems to have caught the Dinos’ attention. The pitch generated strong results and drew positive grades from both Statcast and Sports Info Solutions. The Dinos mentioned it in their press release, wherein GM Seon-nam Lim noted that Allen is expected to join their rotation.

Allen heads over the the KBO for his age-28 season, giving him plenty of time to potentially parlay a strong showing in Asia into a big league return. He’d hardly be the first player to do so. Because Allen debuted in the majors less than a month after his 22nd birthday, he’s perhaps younger than many fans might expect of a journeyman who’s been with seven MLB organizations over a nearly decade-long pro career. If he can make further gains with that new split-changeup, it’s feasible that he could garner a look from big league clubs in future offseasons.

This is the Logan Allen who was traded by the Red Sox to San Diego in November of 2015 with Manuel Margot, Javy Guerra and Carlos Asuaje for Craig Kimbrel.

And with how highly rated Logan Allen was at the time, the trade really favored Padres. Without looking it up, money had to be favorable to SD.

Allen was ridiculously awesome at AA/AAA before he imploded.

Check out his AAA stats after the trade – and realize this was PCL where pitcher stats are inflated on average.

I was under the impression that Kimbrel wasn’t happy in San Diego. Sportstalk radio made comments to that effect prior to the trade.

Preller liked to acquire anything that moved and didn’t consider chemistry for many acquisitions…

And now it’s coming out that Soto and Manny didn’t get along – but don’t they live next door to each other on 1st In Coronado?

If you move as many pieces in and out as Preller there is undoubtedly going to be a high risk of friction.

People are people but supposed to be professionals, etc.

Teams that have zero World Series championships (which the GMs have a hell of a lot to do with these outcomes….

        San Diego Padres 0-2
        Tampa Rays 0-2
        Milwaukee Brewers 0-1
        Colorado Rockies 0-1
Seattle Mariners 0-0 (have never been in a WS)

Of the teams listed SD has wasted more money than any of the others with their mismatched lineups and poor chemistry.

Long – there are only 30 GMs that have any affect on teams chances of winning….or are you too obtuse to under What his day job is?

Oh, you mean to limit your frame of reference to the current 30 GM’s and not like, the history of the game.

So, all of those GMs that are not currently employed that haven’t won a WS don’t count?

Ok, your narrative but if you want to throw around a word like “obtuse” maybe you shouldn’t be so obtuse in the way you think.

Logan blew his chance with the Dbacks to show off the Roger Beshens Football Slider, he threw it but like Hughes didn’t make the correct adjustments. If they never learn those key adjustments they won’t be around long. Wast of time with a split change up. That’s not the ticket.
These guys need to put their ego in the back pocket when information is presented.

It’s one thing for there to be two Logan Allens, but for both of them to have played for CLE makes it extra confusing.

Have to give Logan credit. He somehow bypassed the mandatory last stop in Pittsburgh that most players like him endure before heading to the Orient.

Logan Allen and Brandon Hughes just experienced the Brent Strom, Roger Beshens Football Slider learning curve and did not want to join the club.
Now that Brent’s in Pitt no reason for another season of the same.
