Notifications Fixed For Trade Rumors Android App

By Tim Dierkes | December 19, 2024 at 9:47pm CDT

As you may know, we have a free Trade Rumors app for both iOS and Android.  The app allows you to set up custom feeds and notifications for any combination of sports, teams, and players across MLB Trade Rumors, Hoops Rumors, Pro Football Rumors, and Pro Hockey Rumors.

Just to be clear, the app is something you download from Apple or Google’s app store and it puts an icon on your phone, similar to how you might have the Uber or Instagram apps on your phone.  But we also have a good mobile website, for the many people who simply type mlbtraderumors.com into their phone’s browser (such as Safari).  The mobile website is easier for our developers to update, which is why it has steadily progressed over the last ten years.

Anyway, back to the apps.  A few months ago, notifications somehow broke on the Android app.  Today, we put out an update that fixes that.  If you’re an Android app user, please download that update from the Google Play store.  I want to give a shoutout to Dan B. and the many other Android power users who have written in about this issue and responded to my emails to verify notifications are now working!

Aside from the notifications, the app allows for easy scrolling and swiping between articles.  You can create a multi-sport experience tailored to your specific interests, or you can limit your app entirely to one sport by removing the others.

Seeing as how we initially released this app a decade ago, it’s time for a revamp.  A lot of that has to do with the coding and is beyond my understanding.  We’ll also spruce up the graphics and make other improvements.

Our developers are in the process of putting together a quote for this project, and all I can say for a projected timeline is that we expect it to be finished in 2025.

It’s been ten years since we came up with the basics of this app.  If you’ve used it and have ideas that you’d like to see implemented, they’re welcome in the comments!

Are you even a real MLBTradeRumors/MLB fan if this site isn’t the very first bookmark on your phone?

Is it possible that your phone is too old? What do you have?

Sometimes cached app data can cause issues, so try deleting the app and re-downloading it. If you can’t download the app at all, you might need to update Android.

That happens when you click any link? I’m planning to buy a basic Android phone soon for testing, I really need to be able to mess around with it myself and ensure the basics work.

Tim, have you looked at existing CMPs out there? I’d bypass the custom shop. Credit Unions are known for leveraging the exact same platform/layout – the paint job is the differentiator. Downside is security – if one fails then you know the others can as well, but you don’t carry PII or PCI-DSS.

Just a thought. Been reading the site back when you were still in IT and announced you were taking the big jump. I’m sure it’ll turn out well. Best of luck.

Hope to see a revamped app that’s as easy to navigate as the website.

Maybe I haven’t spent enough time in the app, but the webpage is much better, visually, in my opinion.

How do I clear the notifications on the mobile website? I use my phone to access various ___rumors website but on the NHL one it says I have 9+ notifications but cannot see any I haven’t cleared. It also logged me out of the nfl site and I can’t get back in but I’m fine on the NHL and MLB ones.

Thanks for getting notifications working again. This is my preferred app for sports related news and it was a rough four months without notifications.

Tim can you please fix the Guardians team page, the team feed only shows info from 6 years ago. Definitely love the fact that the notification bar thing is fixed

Tim, with that now out of the way, next could you please install a salary cap & floor with a narrow corridor between the two? No rush. Monday morning will be fine. You’re the best!

I exclusively use the app (iOS) to access the site. The original implementation was excellent and rock solid. Understandably, a few bugs have developed in later years, but it’s amazing it’s kept going without major revamps. I know choosing where to spend resources is critical, trying to find a balance between content and the tech platform. I’m a Front Office subscriber as a way to contribute a bit more. I wonder if there’s a way for readers to do a one-time contribution for the spp upgrades in 2025?
