Cardinals utilityman Brendan Donovan is drawing trade interest from the Dodgers, Yankees, and multiple other teams, The Athletic’s Katie Woo reports. St. Louis is open to listening to offers, yet a deal may be on the less likely side since Donovan is arbitration-controlled through 2027 and the Cardinals’ “asking price is sky-high” for the All-Star.
Along these same lines, the Cards are prioritizing moving pitchers, namely one of the multiple arms (Ryan Helsley, Phil Maton, Steven Matz, or Miles Mikolas) who are eligible for free agency after the season. Erick Fedde is also within that group but the righty is already on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. When it comes to moving position players, Woo writes that the Cards “will not part with one of their position players unless they are blown away by the offer, and their conversations have not progressed past initial check-ins.” This more limited type of trade discussion extends to Donovan and other position players like Ivan Herrera, Alec Burleson, and Lars Nootbaar, who are all “gathering varying levels of interest.”
This is far from the first time Donovan’s name has appeared in trade rumors, and the Yankees’ interest in his services dates back to at least the 2023-24 offseason. The Cardinals’ surplus of multi-positional middle infield types in recent years has naturally made rival teams curious about several of those players, and it was just a year ago at the trade deadline that St. Louis dealt from that group in moving Tommy Edman to the Dodgers. That three-team swap also involving the White Sox ended up being one of the most noteworthy trades of last year’s deadline, given how Edman and Michael Kopech ended up playing key roles in Los Angeles’ World Series championship.
Now in his fourth MLB season, Donovan made an immediate impact from the jump, finishing third in NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 and winning the first-ever utility Gold Glove. He has remained a consistently steady level of offense while playing primarily against right-handed pitching, and Donovan is batting .293/.360/.428 with nine homers over 423 plate appearances this season. These already solid numbers might not reflect his full offensive capability this year, as Donovan’s .363 xwOBA is better than his .344 wOBA. Donovan doesn’t make much solid contact, but he is one of the league’s harder players to strike out.
Beyond Donovan’s hitting, his ability to play multiple positions makes him particularly valuable to both the Cardinals and any possible trade suitors. The big majority of his playing time has come at second base and in left field, but Donovan has also logged innings at the other three infield positions and in right field.
This defensive versatility and Donovan’s left-handed bat make him more or less an ideal fit for the Dodgers’ needs, as The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya notes that L.A. would indeed like to add a left-handed hitting outfielder to its position-player mix. Donovan’s ability to play second base makes him even more attractive for the Dodgers purposes since if he was used at the keystone, Edman would be utilized more primarily as an outfielder, and Andy Pages would move from center to a corner outfield slot. Max Muncy could be returning from the injured list within a couple of weeks anyway, but Donovan could also help out at the third base position until Muncy is back in action.
Hypothetically, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see Los Angeles again try to land both a versatile position player and a reliever from the Cardinals, since Ardaya writes that the Dodgers are still prioritizing bullpen help as their main deadline need. This is pure speculation on my part, but since the Dodgers have also been linked to Helsley’s trade market, L.A. could possibly attempt to pry both Helsley and Donovan away at once. Addressing two needs in a single deal might make the Dodgers a little more open to putting one of their top prospects on the table, as Ardaya wrote earlier this week that L.A. is understandably wary about offering either Dalton Rushing or Alex Freeland in any trade.
New York’s past interest in Donovan notwithstanding, Woo notes that the Yankees may no longer have Donovan on the radar now that Ryan McMahon is wearing the pinstripes. The most recent supporting suggests that the Yankees are now looking to add a right-handed hitter in the wake of acquiring McMahon (a left-handed hitting third baseman) from the Rockies yesterday. It could be that Donovan might now be a luxury for the Yankees only if they were to make some other move in the name of lineup balance, though New York probably shouldn’t be entirely ruled out just because Donovan is still a broad upgrade to the roster as a whole.
Donovan and Nootbaar are both under team control through 2027, Burleson through 2028, and Herrera through 2029. It makes sense that the Cardinals are loath to part with any of these players who may contribute both in the future, and even for the rest of this season, as St. Louis is only 1.5 games back of a wild card slot. Trading an impending free agent pitcher to address another present need is the club’s preferred situation, as the Cards look to be both buying and selling before the July 31 deadline.
Keep Donnie, put him in left, Burly in Rt, and trade Walk
Why would a team in playoff contention want walker? And I doubt any team would give up much for Walker.
Anyone who wants Burleson playing more outfield in St. Louis of all places…. Probably can have their opinions be disregarded
Putting him in the least demanding OF spot defensively while putting surplus defenders in CF and other OF spot isn’t the worst idea on the planet esp if you’re trying to find ways to keep his bat in the lineup. When you have a go and get it CF Scott II it definitely helps make up for Burleson.
This isn’t little league, if you’re going to hide someone in the OF you hide them in LF. RF requires more defensive acumen across MLB.
Second, Busch is big enough that a quality defensive CF absolutely does not cover for slow footed plodders. If you played in Fenway or in Houston, sure, stuff him in LF and deal with it. But the whole point St. Louis being a pitchers park is that you have to have defenders who can go get the ball, which Burleson cannot.
Reminds me of the ridiculous Giants fans trying to convince everyone Wade Jr. could play outfield in SF and had trade value.
There is always the DH for those that cannot field, but can hit.
Burleson does grade out better in LF with both Fangraphs and BR. He’s an average outfielder in left this year. I’m more than happy playing him there to keep his and Herrera’s bats in the lineup.
St Louis actually grades out about average in terms of hitter vs pitcher park at .992 with over 1.000 being more hitter friendly and below 1.000 being more pitcher friendly. So idk where you get St. Louis is more pitcher friendly when it’s roughly average for both.
Does a swift footer CF make up for a butcher in LF? No. Does a swift footed CF and good defensive RF make up for a butcher in LF? Yes. More range RF can cover means less CF-RF the CF has to cover meaning they can focus more on CF-LF if anything. Which is why it’s important to have good defense in the other spots, not just one.
Wade Jr can play in the OF. Thats where the Angels are playing him, in RF. Idk if he’s good defensively but angels seem fine with him playing there. Angels grade more towards hitter friendly at 1.031 compared to St Louis at .992 but again thats pretty much average for hitters and pitchers.
Who said a playoff team?
Why would a team in playoff contention trade Donovan???
Why would a team in playoff contention (the Cardinals) trade Walker?
The Cardinals need right-handed outfielders. Donovan is a 2B. His defensive numbers in the outfield are negative both in OAA and DRS. Wetherholt isn’t just knocking on the door, he’s kicking the door down.
I love Donovan as a player, but the St. Louis roster is way out of balance with not enough quality outfielders and way too many infielders.
Either now or in the offseason Arenado or Donovan should be traded to clear some of the infield logjam. Arenado returns nothing and will cost ten to fifteen million to offload. That’s only if he approves the trade. Donovan can absolutely return a good right-handed right fielder with pop in a straight swap.
They wont give up on walker who is raking since coming back from the IL and is younger than most of the top prospects in AA. If he sucks the rest of the year and next year they’ll make a move.
Who? Who are the Cardinals getting for Donovan? Name someone.
That would be a truly silly game to play. Chaim Bloom starts calling other teams to find out who’s willing to make that trade and what they have available.
The team could just keep playing infielders in the outfield while hoping for the best. Better yet, we could move a catcher who can’t catch to the outfield and hope for the best.
Who?
If Spencer Jones is available I am listening. Who else?
Do you think it’s harder to find a second baseman who hits like Donovan or to find a corner outfielder who hits like Donovan? I’ll leave it there because I’m not into cooking up specific fan trades.
I only know the Cardinals are putting too many non outfielders in the outfield.
The Cardinals need an outfielder for sure. I dont see why they need to trade Donovan to get one.
He won’t have an infield position next year and he brings back a high quality outfielder.
Who? Who is this high quality outfielder teams are just waiting to trade?
I have zero interest in scouting the entire league. I’m simply stating what would make sense for the Cardinals. The Cardinals have a need which will not be filled by trading table scraps. They have only 3 valuable trade pieces in my opinion – Donovan, Burleson, and Herrera. Donovan brings the best return and can be backfilled by Wetherholt. Nootbaar has yet to prove he can be more than an average hitter in this league. He’s an average fielder at best.
I should have said Nootbaar has yet to prove he’s anything more than an average hitting corner outfielder. He is 10 to 15 % better than all league average hitters.
I can’t name a particular player. As I said before they might be able to get a setup reliever at best. King of Cards I’m glad you and others realize that you can’t get much for an often injured corner outfielder that is hitting league average at the trade deadline.
I’d like Chase Delauter from Cleveland or Lazaro Montes from Seattle. Brayden Montgomery from the White Sox. Those are three off the top of my head I’d love to see returns back to STL in a Donovan trade. Delauter and Montgomery would take more than just Donovan and the White Sox aren’t an option either way. Montes has a lot of strike out in his game so a more likely smaller deal.
Donovan’s hitting would probably play well in Seattle since he has good doubles power rather than relying on home runs. If the club is willing to take another left-handed outfielder, several clubs who can use a better second baseman have good candidates. LA has two in the top 10.
St Louis could throw in one of our own lesser regarded outfield prospects. Surprising that every top ten outfield prospect is a lefty.
I wish people would stop calling him Donnie. He’s not in the little leagues.
I hate how the call Eugenio Suarez “Geno” as well. All nicknames are stupid at any age.
Wonder why Cashman opted for McMahon over Donovan……..with the Cards looking to deal pitching also,,,,might have been a better fit…..even though he’s a lefty hitter…
Not like Donovan was even being shopped. they probably didnt want to offer up there stud prospects . Mcmahon was available. and cheap.
What stud prospects, the Yankees have the weakest Farm in Baseball and only a single top100 player… lmao 😆
Not a single truth in this comment. Well done
The 6’7″ guy thats raking 30 homers in AAA that everyone wants
Because the 2 pitching prospects that Cashman gave up for McMahon weren’t top prospects. I would hope Bloom and/or Mo could get more than that for Donovan .
Not true from what I’ve read….at least one of them was the Yankees #8 and moving up fast…..the other a middling guy…….of course, the acquiring team has to agree with their value….we really don’t know whether the Yankees checked in with the Cards first or not……
rocky7 where did you read that? I just checked the Yankees prospects page and Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz aren’t listed on their top 30 prospects.
Jimmy, that’s because after the trade they are already moved on the prospects list to the new team. One was #17 on the Yankees while the other was outside the top 30. Now for the Rockies you can check mlb prospects and one of those pitchers is now their #4z
Herring. #5 on the Rockies list not #4. My bad.
Thanks for clearing that up. My bad. I still wouldn’t of gave up Donovan for those two. I would definitely want at least one starter that would be a starting pitcher next year.
Donovan is better and cheaper so he’d cost quite a bit more
*way better and way cheaper.
I’m cautiously optimistic about how mcmahon will perform in NY. By all accounts he’s a leader and great teammate a high baseball IQ guy. I’m not by any stretch saying he’s better than donovan but i wouldn’t be absolutely shocked if he outperformed his past numbers
Cashman doesn’t have the stomach for this trade. It’s one reason (out of many) why our beloved Yankees are repeatedly trying to fill black holes every single trade deadline. Cashman always tries to acquire cheaper versions of the guy we need, by getting guys with good underlying metrics, like hard hit rate.
It’s also why he has a $300MM payroll and can’t win the whole show. And it demonstrates why computers shouldn’t run a baseball team.
Metrics/Analytics are killing teams especially the Yankees….totally agree that Cash is always shopping in Target instead of Bloomingdales when the team has needs…..your comment is spot on……
They needed a 3b who was cheap
Thinking Donovan is probably a lot more expensive then McMahon at this point. Cardinals are probably asking for Schittler back. Doubt that’s happening. Unless the Yankees get the closer back also.
Trading starting pitching, especially young/cheap pitching like Schittler for pitching is a bad formula considering Cash probably wouldn’t go get their closer because it would make his acquisition of Devin look even worse than it really is……so a question…..why did Cash think that a pitcher, who had somewhat of a questionable success in his last year in Mil….trade for a guy giving up starting pitching (Nestor) and an infield prospect who now is their starting 3rd baseman and who’s best pitch is a change when he had Khanle who’s best pitch was a change (and was totally overworked in the WS with LA) and let Khanle walk away and sign our bum…….think about that for a minute and you might have the crux of the Yankees problems in the front office……LOL
I don’t k kw what you’re going on about but Devin Williams is the least of their problems. You’re probably someone who think acquiring a modern day for Mariano Rivera is easy
Go get the top minor league starting pitchers from anyone anywhere
If the Cardinals can get a cost controlled mid rotation starter for Donovan and some prospects then trade him and set him free to perform in the playoffs. If all they can get are position prospects with limited power potential then they should keep him.
I dont think a mid rotation arm is a good trade. I would need someone with top of the rotation potential even if a couple years away. Donny is much harder to find than a mid rotation arm.
I would normally agree with you SimbaHOF2019. Next year the Cardinals rotation is 36 year old Sonny Gray, Liberatore, Pallante and Mcgreevy and both of those guys have a lot to prove. In the minors they have Roby and Hence who are hurt and likely will be relievers because they are too injury prone and there best hope Quinn Mathews who has yet to perform well in AAA. They need at least 2 starters for next year and if they don’t get one via trade then we will be watching Lynn/Gibson 2.0.
I think noot and someone could get us a mid rotation arm. We have alot of money coming off the books. next years payroll even with raises and eating half or more of Arenados money in a trade comes to about 90 mil. we can afford a free agent pitcher and get another in trade, We have Doyle coming for sure next year barring injury. he could be in the bullpen this year if we really needed him. Likley at least one of Roby, Mathews or Hence makes the rotation as well.
SimbaHOF2019 there is absolutely no way the Cardinals can pencil in any of those pitchers next year. Roby and Hence are hurt and Mathews isn’t pitching well at AAA this year. It would be foolish to rush Doyle like they did V Scott and Jordon Walker. Noot will have to vastly improve to bring a mid rotation arm.
Here we go again Lynn/Gibson 2.0 can’t wait.
Im not saying pencil in. Im saying at least one of them should make it as they are all knocking on the door and have talent.. They wont rush Doyle but he is projected to be in the rotation by mid to the end of next year. Sometimes guys force there way in. Also many of the top draft picks make it in there first year now, one of them had 4 homers and 19 total bases last night.
SimbaHOF2019 please name the 5 starters that you think will be on the Cardinals opening roster next year? Keep in mind that that teams need at least 6 starters on opening day to make ot through a season and I would consider Mcgreevy and Pallante the 5 and 6 starters so please give me 3 more.
Can afford. They can afford anything right now. But they won’t. There is a reason money is coming off the books just as Bloom is coming in. That money will not be allocated back to the big league club.
Sonny
Liberatore
Pallante
Mcgreevy
Free Agent
Trade Pitcher
Leahy ( they want to make him a starter again)
Hold on….Donovan seems to be a good player getting better but we’re not talking about Babe Ruth here…..multiple prospects and a #3-4 might be a bit high unless you find a team that believes they can and will go for it in the playoffs….but then again that type of team probably wouldn’t trade mid-rotation pitching for an infielder/outfielder type like Donovan even if he is an ascending type of player……
I don’t see how trading a proven core position player can improve the team. Thinking a solid starter is a worthy substitute is a Vegas style gamble.
Why would a team trade a solid starter? They aren’t charitable. And name one team that has a rotation surplus.
The Brewers…
The Dodgers have prospects in the minors and they have pitchers on the IL.that could help the Cardinals next year when they will need at least two starters that they don’t have at this time. There is a slim possibility that Quinn Mathews could make the team out of Spring training and even a slimmer possibility that Liam Doyle could make it up next year.
It seems the ask is a top of the rotation starter, not a mid-rotation arm. Few teams seem likely to trade such a player with 3years or more of control for a very good utility player. High end controllable pitching is more scarce & expensive. The Brewers seemingly “available” pitching is mid to back of the rotation type of pitchers.
Mariners… jus sayin 🤷
Detroit
The Mariners covet their higher quality young pitching; I don’t see them trading that away for Donovan. It’s much tougher to find.
With the Amount of non hitting All Starrs we have on the Mariners I’d beg to differ… Cheap All Star Hitters seem to elude us every year… hahaha
Isa408 the Vegas style gamble is going into next year without enough starting pitchers. I’ve lost hope for this year because they don’t have enough starting pitching.
Megill plus Mauricio for Donovan.
Nootbaar might be the odd man out. Trading him or Burleson would clear some of the LH outfield logjam. I think Baez will be up by next year and being RH helps balance things. Nathan Church is playing well in Memphis but is also a lefty. As much as I don’t want to see these players gone, it could help next year’s team.
STL could find themselves in better position than the some of the current WC placeholders by Thursday
They could. Unless, of course, they don’t.
They are the next 2 games away from passing the Padres in the standings. 1.5 games out of the wildcard. This isnt a team ready to sell despite what this site wants to happen.
Several teams are thanking the Padres who really know how to keep a party going right up to the very end
King: “This site” collectively doesn’t desire any specific outcome.
But individual opinions are like arseholes. Everybody has one.
Yanks can offer Jazz and rh outfield prospect Everson Periera plus one pitching prospect like Clayton Beeter for Donovan and two veteran bullpen arms. Donovan can replace Jazz in lineup and brings similar glove but a more consistent less strikeout prone bat.
lol you must be from NY.
Beeter, A soon to be 27 year old in AAA and Periera with 1600 minor league at bats and still can’t make it to the show …. For an all star with 2 1/2 years of control left on his contract …. lol and you want the Cardinals to add in bullpen arms even on top of that
Agree with you but everything we’ve read in MLB Traderumors has indicated that the Cards are desperate to trade off some of their talent so expect commenters to propose value in descending order…..why offer up your top talent in a proposal when you can start low and expand depending on who the Cards might include….one mans garbage is another’s treasure…….and that is totally true in baseball…..
Cards aren’t desperate to move any of their talent. Anyone that they will move are on expiring contracts. To say they are desperate is funny.
That is the problem. They very much should be
I live in St. Louis and follow the cards regularly… they aren’t desperate they knew they wouldn’t be great this year… THE ONLY way Donnie is moving is if the team getting him is giving up at least two possibly 3 of they’re top prospects
They should be desperate. They should have been desperate for several years now. That’s the problem. They got fat and forgot what it’s like to be hungry. They are so far away from being a winning team and they refuse to admit it.
Hey, remember you’re talking to the Yankee fan base here. The most delusional fans in all of sports.
Haha
Not even close to enough…
Imho, the Cards wouldn’t even begin to consider trading Donovan to the Yankees unless Spencer Jones and another top prospect were the centerpieces. I could see a discussion occurring if the Yankees threw out Jones and Schlittler, or similarly situated guys.
You’re very generous there Clipper…..are we seeking about Donovan as if he was a generational player like Mantle or Gehrig……he’s good but not that good……I could see Jones and a middling prospect but not Schlittler and Jones…..way…way…too much but that would be typical Cashman and then Boone would platoon Donovan…LOL
Never happen. Cards would not want Jazz. And those prospects don’t help at all. They both are meh
Agreed , Noot has to go and could bring a decent pitcher back that we desperately need.. LF needs to open up as well as 3B
You might get a setup relief pitcher for Noot. The problem is that the Cardinals are in need of starting pitchers.
Noot need s to play well the rest of the season and be traded in the winter. hes hurt right now. Hes still asked about by other teams. if hes healthy and performing as usual hell get a decent starting pitching prospect or more,
I agree if Noot plays well and gets his OPS above 800 then there is a possibility he could be a centerpiece on a trade for a starting pitcher. I just think that is a big if.
His career ops is .760 and that’s heavily inflated by his high walk %. He has right at league average Slugging %. He’s defense is passable. He’s the definition of a replacement level player. You fetch anything but relief pitcher and a farm depth position player.
If the Cardinals win the next two games, they will be in the third Wild Card Spot. Why would they sell?
Next week, the Cardinals travel to SD, LA, then play the Rockies (who they just two out of three to) and then the Cubs.
In two weeks time, they’ll be buried.
Even if they were to find their way into the wild card, they’ll likely wouldn’t win a single game. They’d be better off building for next year by selling off some of the above mentioned players.
Agree
Dodgers and Padres are playing poorly, while Rockies are still the Rockies… There is no reason why the Cards can’t win 6 of 9 games vs. those three teams. At that point, they are into August and in a playoff position. To make a legit run, they would have to buy a bit though. They could do a bit of both.
Not to mention that they can’t hit and their ace has around 5 ERA right now 🙁
It seems like the Phillies, Mets, Brewers, Cubs, and Dodgers are locks for the postseason. Ask yourself, do the Cardinals match up well in a series against any of those teams? Then you’ll have your answer
Also, Sonny is falling apart, Liberatore is reaching his innings limit and is obviously pitching worse, Pallante is also reaching innings limit and is spotty lately, Mikolas is not enough. They cant survive the gauntlet coming with this rotation.
SimbaHOF2019 I agree and that is why the Cardinals need to strike now while Donovan is at his peak value and get a cost controlled starter.
They don’t just leapfrog the giants and reds if the sweep padres. They could just move up one spot to the 5th place wild card team as well. They are 11 games over .500 at home and 8 games under on the road. Any gains during this home stand will be washed away as soon as they board the next plane.
Demands from Yankees: George Lombard, Spencer Jones, Cam Schittler and another prospect
What Cards will get from Dodgers: LA’s 9th, 17th and 28th best prospects
Yankees should knock on the Royals door and ask about M Garcia
He’s one of 3 hitters in KC. He’s one of 3 position players they would never trade.
You’re living in the 1950s when KC was basically the Yankees farm system.
Hurdy Gurday Man.
Why would the Yanks want Donovan another lefty? and where would he play? unless they are going to trade Jason and or Ben, that would be foolish. I would trade for those pitchers
His trade proposal included Jazz, so Donovan would play 2B.
The Cardinals will not want to add an infielder with Wetherholt knocking on the door.
trade Jazz?, we just got him last season. He’s hitting .273 this month and has 18 home runs. Is this just an idea to save some money in the short term? Yanks need relief pitching. Their bullpen has an ERA of 5 and they are at the bottom
Jazz playing in STL is pure theatre.
Donovan is the heart of this team. Mo would be nuts to trade him, especially to the Dodgers who always try to lowball.
Mo is nuts.
Adolis Garcia
Arozarena
Sandy Alcantara
Zac Gallen
And so on…
Bloom is pulling the strings at the deadline. Mo is the fall guy
How many of the players on that list have been DFA’d or aren’t playing well?
The next few games are crucial for the Cards. If they move closer in the wild card race or actually move into a wild card slot, I think all the seller talk vanishes. If the team goes backward, then lots of guys might go on July 31. The Cardinals are the ultimate bubble team right now.
This little winning home series against San Diego is the worst thing to happen to this club. The Cardinals need to sell. Dreaming on a wild card spot is going to leave St. Louis with nothing in return for all these expired contracts.
Cardinals could be a one stop shop for the padres
They have catching depth in Herrera Pozo Pages
They have OF options
They have SP options
No effing way
Can he play SS?
Not really.
Throwing arm surgeries and minimal slug. He’s a 2B.
Wrong Ivan Herrera linked
This is your time to shine Dipoto, get on the Horn and get Donovan… No Sloan, No arroyo,No Montes… but truthfully I’d give them Evans in a Heartbeat and maybe 2 out of the Top20 for him yesterday… he can play 3rd in a Jam and switch to RF if you want to put Ben in as a defensive replacement late and can give Youbg a day off and also fill in for Polo at DH if he Cools back down albeit he’s been in fire 🔥 for the last 15 games… Mariners woukd still need a Minimum of one Hugh leverage Bullpen ARM but that 😳 makes a nice lineup with the addition of Naylor…
I’d try to give Celestine before Evans and maybe Sundstrum and a Bullpen ARM like Mcgraw but I’ve liked Donovan and he killed the Mariners…
Seattle matches up well with the cards. Seattle has what the cards need and the cards have what they need. Could make for a great trade with lots of moving pieces
Yep, and they have the positional Players to make it happen only questions is will Cards want guys closer to the Bigs? 🤔
The cards probably will, but I’m a realist. I hope they go all in on a rebuild. They need a bunch of pieces to be a real threat. Winn and weatherholt are the only keepers who are building blocks. I’d be looking for triple A or double A talent. In 2 years cards have next to nothing in payroll obligations. I say you play for 2027 if you are the cards.
I don’t know. They’d take a top prospect in A-ball as part of a package if its the right guy.
The asking price for Donovan will make the other team puke or Mo won’t do it.
M’s and Cards also play in different leagues, so it’s less likely that a trade would haunt either team. If Donovan were made available to the M’s, it might take Evans, who’s had a pretty good rookie season, along with one of the 8 top-100 prospects and someone doing well with the big club, like Dom Canzone.
Dom Canzone has 35HR power of he makes contact that deal won’t get done…
Raley is fine in RF and hits from the same side. And while I’m loving how well Canzone is doing, he’s still a question mark until he’s done it consistently (years, not weeks). Gotta give up something to get something. I’d try to hold on to Evans, however, because Hancock is doing so poorly. Unless they’re in the Mitch Keller sweepstakes, which wouldn’t make me mad at all.
Evans? No thank you.
Evans is #5 Starter without a Top end Fastball and pitches to contact… he’s only getting ran out there because Miller is Hurt… his road home splits will be bad if he pitched all year… he’s a decent little pitcher but will never become a #3 or higher rotation guy… Hancock if he puts it together has much more upside TBH
Well, with judge having his elbow x-rayed and a possibility that he is seriously injured the Yankees might want to wait to see what’s going on with that before they make any moves because let’s face it if he’s out long-term, they might as well just sit this deadline out, cause they’re not going anywhere.
A No top end fastball, pitch to contact type of pitcher with nothing but backend rotation upside sounds like John Mozalak’s dream acquisition to be a number 2 guy in Saint Louis.
Maybe they’d take Mike Morales, Farmelo, and Mcgraw?
This is a Much Cheaper alternative 🤔 to the GENO rental Circus and gets you a Controllable Player making decent money… Celestine or Farmelo can headline the pkg or bow out and go get the 2 relievers needed and run with the Lineup we have… Go M’s
Perdomo is a very interesting player…
Side note, everyone thinks the Cards should get more and more pitching but I think the glaring weakness that is possibly worse is our poor offensive numbers and they only have Weatherholt in the immediate pipeline … They need to be in the market for a top tier bat or two just as much or even more than pitching.
On top of that, Our last two drafts have been 90% pitching….
They’re going to have to give up on someone to get a bat. Mo doesn’t have the balls to do it. I think the “big right-handed bat” will have to be on Bloom’s wishlist.
Who on the Dodgers would Donovan replace? Conforto has been league average or better for a few weeks now–the time for cutting him has passed. Muncy is supposed to returning well before the end of the season. Kike’ is on the DL, but they’ll never give up on him. They must be planning on sending Kim back to the minors, or Kike’ is injured far worse than they are letting on.
Maybe you’re right with Kike i could see that or maybe the situation with Mookie might linger on for the rest of the season
Enough of the Donovan rumors already. The Cardinals have repeatedly said that they don’t want to trade him and nothing has changed. Can’t these writers find anything real to discuss?
Cards are not trading Donovan. Wasteful article.
Cardinals and Yankees do not match up on this trade imo. Donovan stays, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Noot or Burleson go if they actually do sell. The team is playing itself into a difficult position for the FO. 75% of the fans here think they should be sellers regardless, but get rid of Donovan and others 90% of the fans that don’t visit these types of sites are going to be upset that the FO is throwing in the towel when we’re in a race for a playoff spot. That’s a really tough position to be in, and I do not envy them at all.
75% of the fans are front runners with no spine.
Donovan is the type of hitter the Yankees actually need vs the strikeout or homer McMahon. But he’s mostly a 2B so it’s interesting the Yankees are in on him.
Donovan literally won the Utility Gold Glove. It’s in the article. He can play other positions quite well. Also not going to be traded.
He literally has only played 2B with some LF this year. Literally.
All of you Yankee haters that claim they have no real prospects to trade are completely delusional. They like any other MLB farm system have prospects that other teams covet, and all the reports of these organizations scouting then Yankees farm system right now can’t be fake, can they? More trades are incoming by the Yankeees. They have assets like any other team!
Hate to be the One to tell you this but when you have 1 player in top100 you have a yucky Farm system… and all the Scouts League wide know it…
Quick, check the top100 you had 2 enter at the bottom right before they add this year’s draft and they drop right back out… I do like the 2nd baseman tho 👍 Mariners Win Championships in EVERY league and level of the Minors… no coincidence tho
How’s that working out for your major league team. You have how many titles? We’ll wait.
300M payroll how many Y’all got last 10years?
So what I’m reading is that John Mozoliak is once again over valuing his players and won’t move anyone because no one is meeting his situational expected return. Let’s not forget he passed on Soto. He will wait until the deadline to get a better deal and everyone will have moved on or just hung up the phone.
With the 2 wins against SD he is probably believing they are a WS winning team again if they just add one or two more bullpen arms like every other year.
Mozaliak severely suffers from FoMo while we in Saint Louis severy suffer from Fear Of Mo.
Why would the Cardinals want Rushing or Freeland? They have numerous catching prospects and don’t need another. As for Freeland, they also have too many infielders. They need outfielders with pop.
Yes, 3 of the Cardinals top 5 prospects are catchers. Two of them are top 100 prospects. The last things the Cardinals need is infield and catching prospects. Pitching and corner outfielders with good bats. A true centerfielder with a good bat would be nice but teams who have them don’t trade them.
Right handed hitting outfielder and back end pen help are the big needs. Almost impossible to trade for back end pen help with years of team control those guys rarely get traded. As far as outfielders go I really dont know.
Donovan and Helsley for Hope and Ferris? Who says no?
As long as it’s not Hope and Change. That lie didn’t work out for anyone.
Trade Donnie if the price is right. He’s my favorite Cardinal, but he lacks slug and he’s blocking JJ. The two years of remaining team control on Donnie could bring a nice trade piece.
JJ brought up from Memphis to play second. His bat-to-ball skills and power projections are very good. It’s a gamble, but it’s worth the risk and blocking JJ isn’t a good option. Use the money saved to find more slug for the lineup.
Herrera to left, Burly and Noot (trade?) fight it out for right field. Walker to the bench/DH/1st and see what shakes out in right field.
Haven’t given up on Walker and he’s trending nicely recently, but he’s had a lot of opportunity to succeed and I’m tired of waiting for him to learn to drive the ball. I want this team to succeed in ’26 (and beyond) and I’m tired of waiting on Walker.
I hope Walkers recent hitting catches the eye of another team. If they get one phone call about Walker they should pull the trigger. I think his career will look a lot like Heyward’s when all said and done. And that’s a fine player. It just won’t be in Saint Louis because expectation was set to high. Very similar to JD Drew’s time in Saint Louis and then after.
