The Yankees announced they’ve reached an agreement with infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. for the 2026 season. It’s a one-year, $10.2MM deal, reports Jack Curry of the YES Network. Chisholm is a client of Roc Nation Sports.
New York settled all eight of its remaining arbitration cases today. Chisholm was the only one to crack eight figures, though closer David Bednar ($9MM) wasn’t far behind. MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz nailed both numbers. The 27-year-old Chisholm is in his final year of arbitration and will head to free agency next offseason.
Chisholm put together a massive 30/30 campaign in his first full season in pinstripes. He struck out at an above-average clip, but also pushed his walk rate to a career-best 10.9%. Chisholm’s 126 wRC+ was his best mark since the 134 he posted in an abbreviated 2022 season, when a back injury limited him to 60 games. Health issues hindered Chisholm for much of his tenure in Miami. That hasn’t been the case in New York. Aside from a minimum IL stint in 2024 and a one-month absence this past year, Chisholm has been a fixture in the Yankees’ lineup. He’s played at least 130 games in back-to-back seasons.
After making the move to third base when he first joined the team, Chisholm was locked in at second base after New York traded for Ryan McMahon. He should reprise that role in 2026, assuming he’s still on the team. Rival clubs have checked in with the Yankees about Chisholm. The pending free agent is interested in a contract extension, but New York hasn’t been as keen on the idea. There’s been no indication that the Yankees are actually considering trading Chisholm. He’s more than likely going to be back in the middle of a formidable New York lineup next year.

He gonna need to put in 10 million worth of effort on those groundballs and his fielding. Looked like Aramis Ramirez when he was with Pittsburgh before being traded to the Cubs a few times last year. And dude is already on a winning ball club so thats not the issue
Numbers say he was solid at second and not so good everywhere else.
Jazz was a plus defender at 2b
There’s a reason he’s *only* making $10.2M in his final year of arb. He’s no Roberto Alomar.
Give Jazz extension contract please.
He is yankees for live.
And for replays.
I like Jazz a lot, but I have a feeling they’re gonna move away from him after this season.
Well they’re not extending him because they would’ve approached him already so you’re right. Re-signing him is a possibility.
If yankees lose out on bellinger I can see them signing bo bichette to play 2B and then moving jazz to LF… they are going to need another bat to protect judge
Someone like Juan Soto would probably be perfect for that.
What makes you think Jazz *can* play LF and why would he agree to that experiment in his walk year?
Good athlete. And played the OF in Miami.
Mariners would gladly take jazz off their hands. Trade Castillo to the yanks and the M’s eat 15 mil. Thats a win win trade.
I only see one win, not two.
He has a full no trade clause and would block that I’m certain.
No Bling is safe tonight, he’ll be hitting the diamond district.
I think wording it as the Yanks aren’t “keen” to an extension is misleading. Just say the Yanks, as a rule of thumb, don’t extend players currently under contract. They made Judge and Jeter wait. Why would it be any different? The last extensions they issued were to Severino and Hicks and both ended badly. I do they think they should do it but it’s unlikely.
If he goes 30/30 again do you try and lock him up? It’s a tough question. Jazz has been a model citizen in New York. In New York you can’t say the things he said in Miami and not wear it. Even with another 30/30 year, I don’t see him making top of the market money. Who knows?Gleyber Torres is making 22 million this year so I could be way off.
What did he say that was controversial in Miami?
He formerly complained about club house toxicity and publicly mentioned Rojas as being the center of it. Racism and old school politics if I recall correctly.
Gleyber is making that for one year just like Grisham and anyone else who received and accepted a QA. I can’t tie that into a potential future contract I’m thinking.
So I guess Jazz isn’t getting traded.
like Bellinger, Chisholm is a keeper
and the salary is no problem for a Yankee organiization that is awash with revenue
If the Yankees sign Bo Bichette, they could trade Jazz to Milwaukee for Freddy Peralta. Jazz could play second base and allow Brice Turang to move to shortstop. That would cover the Brewers’ immediate need for more slugging while turning light-hitting Joey Ortiz into a defensive replacement or utility player. Peralta and Chisholm are both on expiring contracts.
