Rawlings to Release Book Chronicling the Evolution of Ball Gloves (Sponsored)

Since its founding in 1887, Rawlings has remained the industry standard for baseball gloves and equipment. From becoming the official baseball glove of Major League Baseball to the creation of the distinguished Rawlings Gold Glove Award, the Rawlings brand has become synonymous with quality in the baseball world. This storied relationship between equipment and the game that defines it is set to be chronicled in ‘The Finest in the Field®: a History of Baseball Through 50 Iconic Gloves.’

Authored by award-winning writer and filmmaker Ed Wheatley, with a foreword by Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench, ‘The Finest in the Field®: a History of Baseball Through 50 Iconic Gloves’ details not only Rawlings’ heritage in the baseball world, but also decades of the history of baseball itself. “This book reflects Rawlings’ deep connection to the history of the game and celebrates the gloves that have epitomized defensive excellence through the years,” said Mike Thompson, Chief Marketing Officer for Rawlings.

The story is told through rich illustrations and photographs of 50 gloves, paired with immersive essays that place the artifacts within their historical context.“ Within each glove is a unique story – some more dramatic and some where the glove’s role is more subtle, always remaining by each player’s side,” said Johnny Bench, Hall of Fame catcher.

The book highlights iconic moments, famous plays, and the defensive greats that have defined America’s pastime. It’s a journey through baseball history guided by the game’s most important tool, accompanied by imagery, period advertisements, and further baseball memorabilia certain to fascinate baseball fans of all ages.

‘The Finest in the Field®: a History of Baseball Through 50 Iconic Gloves’ is currently available for preorder, and is set for release at your favorite/preferred book retailer and Rawlings.com on March 24, 2026.

Rawlings The Chosen One Now Available! (Sponsored)

Rawlings has returned with their latest in a line of products that have remained the standard for athletes of all ages for nearly 150 years. Just a year after being named “Youth Bat Of The Year” by Bat Bros, the Rawlings Icon is back with a new iteration: The Chosen One.

Like its predecessor, The Chosen One sports the “In/Tense” carbon composite construction and “Tuned Balance” performance technology, pairing a consistently powerful hitting surface with optimal weight distribution and balance. Instead of bringing this technology together into the two-piece Rawlings Icon, The Chosen One blends the optimally flexible handle into the powerful carbon composite barrel of the Icon, creating one of the most powerful experiences in BBCOR.

The Chosen One is the industry’s only one-piece composite BBCOR bat on the market. Its lack of a connective joint greatly reduces negative, hand-rattling feedback at contact while still allowing the perfect amount of flex with reduced durability concerns. The Chosen One is built to last.

The Chosen One stands out with a distinctive white barrel and handle, featuring premium “RevGrip” material engineered for unmatched cushion and tack. Striking gold font is used in the trusted Rawlings symbol, the now well-known “Icon” label, and the accompanying “The Chosen One” it uses to identify itself. It’s clear that style was just as much a goal as performance when it came to The Chosen One’s design.

The Bat Bros offered shining praise for The Chosen One, noting that it is “as good as every BBCOR bat in the game, if not better.” Its lightness and balance lead to high-quality, consistent contact. It’s what we’ve come to expect from one of the most respected brands across all levels of baseball across the world. “Be Iconic” in 2026 with the Rawlings Icon The Chosen One, and get the best out of your swing!

Compete With Your Crew: The Winfield Game Launches Group Leaderboards (Sponsored)

As the MLB hot stove heats up, there’s another daily challenge baseball fans are trying to solve: The Winfield Game.

Sharing a name with Dave Winfield – the only athlete ever drafted in the first round of the MLB, NBA, and NFL drafts – The Winfield Game is a free daily sports trivia puzzle. Each day’s answer is a current or former MLB All-Star, NBA All-Star, or NFL Pro Bowler from the Super Bowl era forward. Your job is to identify that player in as few guesses as possible.

If you’ve ever played Wordle, the structure will feel familiar. One puzzle per day, limited guesses, and feedback after each attempt that helps you zero in on the answer. The difference is simply the subject matter — instead of letters, you’re narrowing down decades, teams, positions, and accolades to uncover a single sports star.

You start by typing in any player. Each guess returns a set of clues: the decades they played, the teams they suited up for, their position, and key achievements. Those clues gradually narrow the field until you land on the correct player… or run out of guesses trying.

In the above example, a user first guessed Royce Clayton – a sneaky good starting player for The Winfield Game due to having played for 11 teams during his career. Clayton gave a match on sport and an indication the player played in Chicago, though not for the White Sox. And importantly Clayton did not match on the answer’s decades of play.

The next guess was Anthony Rizzo, which turned out to be a great choice. Rizzo gave matches on the Cubs and Yankees, but neither was the answer’s main team. Which led the user to guess correctly with one of this winter’s biggest free agents – Cody Bellinger.

If you get stuck, you can optionally burn a guess on a hint, which might reveal an extra team, decade, or award to help you zero in on the right name. After you finish, you’ll see your score, streak, and that day’s average across all players. Newly added, you can also check out your own Group Leaderboard.

New this winter: Group leaderboards

The Winfield Game is rolling out group leaderboards!

In addition to the leaderboard for the best lifetime average score and the Cal Ripken Jr. Ironman Streak Leaderboard, you can now create private groups and see how you stack up against:

  • Friends and family
  • Coworkers in the office pool
  • Your fantasy league
  • Discord / Slack communities
  • Team-specific fan groups

Setting up a group is simple:

  1. Go to winfieldgame.com and create a free account (or log in).
  2. Start a new group and share the invite link with whoever you want to compete against.
  3. Everyone plays the same daily puzzle — but now you can see your group’s leaderboard and compare scores within your own circle.

Group leaderboards track performance over time, so a single lucky guess won’t carry you forever. Over weeks and months, the best puzzle solvers rise to the top… and even if you aren’t the best, you can still top the streak leaderboard for your group.

Other Insider Tips

If you are looking to put your best foot forward in The Winfield Game, here are some insider tips to help you get started:

  • Learn a “glue guy” in every sport – someone who played for a ton of teams. Rich Hill and Edwin Jackson are great names to leverage in baseball, while Ish Smith (NBA) or Josh Johnson (NFL) could help in the other sports.
  • Refine your starting player – multi-sport players like Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson will nail down the sport with just one guess, while players like Rickey Henderson or Ryan Fitzpatrick had long careers with several teams.

The Winfield Game updates daily at midnight EST, and group leaderboards are available for anyone who wants to track results with friends or colleagues.

The Stats Behind Some Potential 2026 Hall Of Famers (Sponsored)

The 2025 season concluded with one of the most thrilling endings in a very long time (unless you are a Blue Jays fan), but now we’re in the Baseball Offseason, with a very long and cold winter ahead of us before there’s more baseball to watch.

We’re also in Hall of Fame season! This winter, BBWAA voters will decide whether any new players will be elected into the Hall. While there’s some exciting first time players on the ballot, there are also some very interesting ones returning for another year.

We’ll use Stathead, the Internet’s #1 Baseball Stats Search Engine, to take a look at three candidates returning to this year’s ballot. Let’s see why, or why not, they deserve a spot in Cooperstown.

Want to do your own research into the players you think deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame? Sign up for Stathead! Your first month is on us!

Carlos Beltrán
Receiving over 70% of the vote in his third year on the ballot, Carlos Beltrán seems like the safest bet for induction in 2026. How did someone with just one top-10 MVP finish in his career become a Hall of Fame lock? Let’s dig into the numbers!

Beltrán provided elite offense at a premium defensive position. From age 21-33, years where his primary position was center field, Beltrán posted an .853 OPS. He had seven seasons with an OPS over .850 while primarily playing center field. In the last 50 years, only four other CFs had more .850 OPS seasons.

Then, there’s Beltrán work in the field. He had four seasons with at least 10 Rfield, the fielding component of WAR. Rfield is scaled to runs, meaning he contributed around 10 runs of value (equivalent to about one win) four separate times in his career. Since 1990, only 38 OFs have done that four times, most of whom don’t have anywhere near the offensive numbers that Beltrán has.

Putting it all together, Beltrán is one of eight OFs in the last 50 years to have three or more seasons with an OPS of .850 and at least 10 Rfield.

Chase Utley
Switching to the infield, Utley scored a respectable 39.8% in last year’s voting. He still has a ways to go to reach election, but the numbers show why his candidacy is growing.

From 2005-09, Utley posted a ridiculous 39.7 WAR. Individually, those were seasons of 7.3, 7.3, 7.8, 9.0, and 8.2. When your worst season in that span is equivalent to Cal Raleigh’s 2025, you must be doing something right.

How to put that in context? There’s a few ways of looking at Utley’s run here:

When you factor that those five seasons all had Utley as a top five player in WAR, something only six other 2B have done, it’s clear that he has a strong case for the Hall thanks to one of the 2000s’ most impressive peaks.

Félix Hernández
Speaking of peaks, Félix Hernández got 20.9% of the vote last year, as voters weighed whether or not his run as arguably the best pitcher in baseball was enough to counteract a career that was shorter than the average Hall of Fame pitcher.

King Félix won one Cy Young and finished in second two more times. In all three seasons, he had an ERA+ of 170 or better, meaning his ERA was 70% better than the average pitcher when you account for league and ballpark.

That, it turns out, is a very rare achievement. Only 11 pitchers in MLB history have had three or more seasons where they threw 200+ innings and posted a 170+ ERA+. Of the 11, six pitched before Integration. The other five? Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Pedro Martínez, Greg Maddux, and Félix Hernández.

Rawlings Gold Glove Winners Announced! (Sponsored)

On Sunday November 2nd, Rawlings announced the winners of their Gold Glove Award.

Recognized as the best defensive players at their respective positions, this year’s class of honorees includes 12 previous winners of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award and 8 first-time winners. Max Fried, Steven Kwan and Ian Happ have each earned their fourth Gold Glove, the most amongst this year’s winners. Several teams had multiple winners: the Kansas City Royals and Boston Red Sox in the American League; and the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs in the National League.

How the Award is Selected:

To determine the winners of the 18 defensive position awards, each team’s manager and up to six coaches on his staff voted from a pool of qualified players in their league and could not vote for players from their own team. Additionally, Rawlings includes the SABR Defensive Index™ (SDI) as part of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award selection process, which influences approximately 25 percent of the overall selection total, with the managers’ and coaches’ votes continuing to carry the majority.

To identify the utility award winners, Rawlings collaborated with SABR to create a specialized defensive formula separate from the traditional selection process for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award position winners. Utilizing the SABR formula and additional defensive statistics, Rawlings selected one utility winner from each league.

Below is the complete listing of the 2025 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners from each league and the number of Rawlings Gold Glove Awards each player has won in his career:

Introducing The Winfield Game

What is it?

Sharing a name with the only player ever to be drafted in the first round of the MLB, NBA, and NFL drafts. The Winfield Game is a daily challenge to name that day’s current or former NBA
All-Star, MLB All-Star, or NFL Pro Bowl player in as few guesses as possible. Each guess will provide clues to that day’s player and will help inform your next guess.

In the example below, the player started their game with Rich Hill. Using the clues provided from Rich Hill – we know the answer: 1) played their most games in the 2000s (green capsule)
and also played in the 2010s, 2) played for the Yankees and Dodgers – though neither was the team for which they played their most games (no green capsule), and the player was not a pitcher as no position match is shown. That led the player to guess Bobby Abreu, which provided several more clues, including a position match and we know the answer won a Gold Glove.

Use hints (optionally) — if the puzzle hasn’t been solved after 5 guesses, users can opt for a hint (at the cost of counting as a guess). Hints might reveal a team, decade, or achievement clue
the user doesn’t yet have.

Results Page — after the user completes the game (or fails), their score is shown along with that day’s average score. In addition, there is a lifetime average score leaderboard. And there is a full
archive of all previous games as well!

Secrets of the game:

Like any puzzle, there is a strategy involved. For baseball lovers here are some fun initial guesses to make based on the categories that will give the best chance to win!

Players to Play in Four or more Decades:

  • Jamie Moyer: Pitched from 1986 to 2012 and was an all-star 1x in 2003 (at 40 years old!)
  • Omar Vizquel: Played from 1989 to 2012 and was a 3x all-star. He also won 11 gold gloves which is only helpful if the guess for the day is a MLB player
  • Rickey Henderson: Played from 1979 to 2003
  • Ken Griffey Jr.: Played from 1989 to 2010
  • Nolan Ryan: Played from 1966 to 1993

Henderson, Griffey Jr., and Ryan will check additional boxes if the player of the day has won an MVP award (Henderson and Griffey Jr.), as well as in their respective sport’s Hall of Fame.

BONUS: The only all-star MLB player to appear in FIVE decades is Hall of Famer Minnie Minoso (1949-1980).

Players to Play for Multiple Franchises:

Additionally, the game rewards guesses of players who played for many franchises. These players give the best shot at matching a team or metro area with the answer. Here are a few MLB players that could be valuable guesses.

  • Edwin Jackson: Pitched from 2003 to 2019 and appeared for an MLB record 14 teams.. The teams are: Dodgers, Rays, Tigers, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Cardinals, Nationals,
Cubs, Braves, Marlins, Padres, Orioles, A’s, and Blue Jays. So a nice mix of cities represented that have other major sports teams
  • Mike Morgan: Pitched from 1978 to 2002 and made 1x All-Star in 1991. Bonus points that he also picks up four decades too! Morgan played for the A’s, Yankees, Blue Jays,
Mariners, Orioles, Dodgers, Cubs, Cardinals, Reds, Twins, Rangers, and Diamondbacks)
  • Fernando Rodney: Pitched from 2002 to 2019 and made 3x All-Star teams. While he played seven years in Detroit he also appeared for Angels, Rays, Mariners, Cubs, Padres,
Marlins, D-backs, Twins, A’s and Nationals

While the game of course will let player’s guess non-All Stars, unfortunately, Rich Hill would not be recommended here as he never made an All-Star team. He did appear for 14 MLB teams,
a record.
